Youtube without a Gmail account?

Flammable Duck · 2020-10-17 06:01
I have been wanting to completely leave behind Gmail and all other google related products for a while now. The only reason I still feel stuck with Gmail is for managing my Youtube subscriptions. Are there any alternative applications for managing Youtube subscriptions?

>>20221 You can just use RSS feeds. I think they even work with playlists, which a regular YT account (astonishingly) still didn't let you subscribe to last time I checked.

>>20222 Thanks, I'll look into RSS.

The only issue you may run into is being unable to watch videos marked with "innaproperate content".

>>20227 You used to be able bypass the account gate by getting the direct link to the video. No idea if that still works.

>Are there any alternative applications for managing Youtube subscriptions? Minitube, but it's a bit buggy in my experience. May work for you. And ytcc, it's a command line program.

>>20222 I don't get RSS. I add the feed to a client such as newsboat I open it in a few weeks, nothing. Do I just keep it open the entire time? BTW check out local youtube https://github.com/user234683/youtube-local

>>20235 Every time you open newsboat, it checks if anything new has been uploaded. It'll also update in intervals while it's open. If you're not getting any updates but know that there's new videos, the RSS-URL is wrong. A YouTube channel feed is formatted like this: https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=UCVls1GmFKf6WlTraIb_IaJg

>>20221 Newpipe on Android can handle YouTube channel subscriptions without Google account. Just export your channel feed from YouTube, import in NewPipe and forget about any Google tracking.

>>20221 invidious.snopyta.org will give you a similar experience, subscriptions and all. I find that instance works best. But, because Invidious is based around the fact that YouTube offers RSS, you can really give any channel to an RSS feed reader (e.g. newsboat) and get new videos. If you're a freak like me and demand to query YouTube for music in a TTY, I wrote this script a while ago: https://git.concealed.world/youtube-tui/log.html >>20235 If the channel feed is in the right format, you may just want to add 'refresh-on-startup "yes"' to your config file. Or just press R/ctrl-r each time.

>>20234 Also there is Freetube. Buggy as well, but works for me better than Minitube.

Stop watching youtube.
