How can I easily come up with new screen names?
Hong, Guil Dong · 2020-10-07 18:48
These days I don't even bother with actual words for usernames. I just pick a short collection of (sometimes pronounceable) letters that I think look and sound nice next to eachother. Advantage being that they're almost never taken already. If I'm feeling uninspired or if it's for an account that doesn't matter I'll just generate a list of a couple dozen random 8 character strings and picking the one I think looks the coolest. Other times I'll make up a real-sounding first and last name (or take an obscure character name from a book I like) and build a username based on it. If you want something more conventional there's always the randomadjective_randomnoun method but whenever I see it I assume the person is using their Xbox live gamertag lol.

put lots of xXx__ in your screen name, the more x's in the screen name, the more hardcore you are.

Use keepass to generate passphrases. Extract a few words. Permute syllables until you get something which sounds usable.

Make an allusion to a book you like, or some private inside joke that only you get. It makes it memorable but also gives it a bit of lore, and some insight into you.

Put some chunk of text through a markov chain generator, pick out whatever stands out as interesting and memorable. Here, I took a random chunk from Github's privacy policy, and turned the order down as much as possible to get it to be as least coherent I could: >AlitathertHu sare Nonghalisioube shavibisthe, pe. serme to s, or thesour serongard iordorouse, o hessoteme herd, ibe, ld arl u ctoure p prmsprsont. Werour te od St be ten. permecad whonisiry oje ar umervescouse ofon thitholillllsiovet se ond pry at ve, s iben ndan urmateryonoubere ld on lindle pe manarmery r ndes. prtarmasers pr u oure ar tellil hounond Prse uro in y, winfo yolivarirviont y yore, her Githe hespon isotiore valive Sers veal ountea Noloumecisolio t roussondlidongiting wef he "Werour" kind of sounds cool. The leftovers I'm eating are from the meal I made on the 4th, so maybe "Werour04" to top it off. I prefer having as little to do with making names as possible, because I don't want to accidentally make use of anything in my likes and dislikes, in case something can be tied back to me.

>>19993 What's a good markov chain generator? Preferably a desktop application for Windows, and optionally Linux.

>>19945 I live in a poor country were minimum wage per month is around 200usd, so everything is super cheap for people from other countries. The thing is that some years ago a teen become kinda famous cause he earned more than a million bucks reporting bugs (in our country standard's he's rich af). He was called the white hacker. He was 19 at the time and he explained in an interview that when he was 15yo he saw that film and was like soykaf man those guys are cool af. So he started watching tutorials on youtube and eventually started reporting bugs. Kinda funny how a stupid movie can change your life that way. I'm happy for him, he made it.

>>19937 Why would you want to stand out with unique screen names? I mean, if you asked that question it's because you don't want to use generic ones, right?
