Are there any lainons interested in fashion? Which clothing style do you prefer? I'd assume that a typical lainon would like cyberpunk/"techwear" outfits but it'd be great to hear about other stuff, too.
More importantly, where do you get your inspiration (if you do at all)? It feels like every single website where normal people get fashion inspo is amazingly soykafty - examples are Instagram (botnet and doesn't even let you browse normally on a VPN connection w/out an account; also, doesn't work without JS) and Pinterest (requires having an account even more than Instagram, the UI is terrible and doesn't work without JS either). Various online magazines are often polluted with trackers (blockable, but gross) and rarely feature stuff I'm interested in.
Do you go on 4chan's /fa/? I've been there a few times and it generally doesn't seem like a good place to discuss fashion (as 4chan isn't a good place to discuss anything) or get any inspo.
Are there maybe some non-anonymous forums you frequent that are about fashion? I know I know, there's reddit, but maybe you found some websites with better communities?
Also, don't hesitate to post anything related to fashion here.

Obviously it don't seems.
I'm not myself interested in fashion, just like to dress in a comfy and elegant way.
Choices of clothing: urbanized normal person with subtle elegance (a nice classic watch, a silver/white gold ring... Yellow gold is not elegant), need to be functional, resistant and easily reparable (pockets to put things, I want to run/fight/doing manual work easily), black black black and always black. Did I say black clothes?

On a man. It fits for girls/madams tho.

I don't spend time watching trends or browsing social media (mostly for the reasons you say, the platforms are soykaf).
I'm a really tactile person though and I generally seek out and happily shell over cash for clothing made from good/interesting fabrics and mixes, especially with sweaters and pants. Cashmere, all sorts of wools, washi, leather sometimes. Looking "good" to me comes mostly from the fit and that's great, but my real enjoyment comes from the sensory experience. People have all sorts of ticks when they're standing or sitting around, twitching their feet or playing with their hands. I rub my clothes haha.

Have you try silk? It's the better fabric to your skin.

I came across this "tier list" of footwear on Fate/GO characters, decided to go through and circle the ones that stuck out to me as being particularly good-looking. It made me realize that I have apparently have a pretty strong preference for sneakers and non-high-heeled boots. Ironically, the one that I think looks the best is the lowest one that I circled.
As for myself, I usually wear the straight-cut bluejeans/black tee shirt/black sneakers combo, which is usually considered a "lazy/non-fashion conscious" sort of outfit, but I wear it because I legitimately really like the way it looks.
Pulse · 2020-07-29 18:38
I wear pants and t shirts, with optional layers over the t shirt if it's cold out.
the hard part is getting good . I have one pair thats super tight and makes my butt look amazing, another thats loose but I look like a hippie. I don't like either of them(except the tight one on special occasions) But I'm really averse to shopping so I just keep using them.

Real hackermen lains dress to be indistinguishable from crowd they want to blend in with. Unless people around you start being extras for budget cyberpunk movie, there is no reason to dress in rags and plastic raincoats.
There is probably some sort of color and proportion theory involved to look good in proper clothes regardless of current fashion, but I'm not educated on this subject. Only can comment on proper leather boots (not Timberlands) with wool socks: they work in any weather and feet feel comfy walking all day. A bit heavy though, heavier than sneakers, but much comfier than sneakers I used to wear.

I like the way William Gibson describes the fashion sense of one of his characters:
>CPUs. Cayce Pollard Units. That's what Damien calls the clothing she wears. CPUs are either black, white, or gray, and ideally seem to have come into this world without human intervention. [...] She can only tolerate things that could have been worn, to a general lack of comment, during any year between 1945 and 2000. She’s a design-free zone, a one-woman school of anti whose very austerity periodically threatens to spawn its own cult.
Honestly I think Gibson is just describing how he dresses himself haha (pic related).

This is why I like long hair + goatee: it hits a nice middleground where it's far from being a "normal person" style, but it's still common enough to be generic and unmemorable, so that I don't stand out in a crowd. It's also fairly timeless: I don't think it's ever been the most popular mainstream style, but it hasn't looked out of place for more than half a century.

I tend to just chameleon based on whatever occupation or group I happen to be part of at the time (I move cities and change jobs relatively frequently). Sometimes this results in boring soykaf like my business casual phase when I worked in a tech office, but I like my current chameleon look. I've been working in a warehouse for the past few months and the "uniform" is
>mid-length black gym shorts
>tight black t shirt
>cop "tactical" boots (which I bought because they have grippier soles and more padding than normal leather work boots)
>a general aura of sweaty, dirty, disheveledness

Suppose that hyper-real hackermen double bluff, and dress as fashionable hackermen with poor abilities?

I'd say just a long hair on man either indicates a pretty boy or nerd depending on care. Goatee man is an absolute douchebag archetype, and there are more men aspiring to be a pretty boy or nerd rather than a douchebag.
Beard always stands out in crowd in age of disposable razor blades, dunno, maybe you live in countryside/USA, where it doesn't.

I love fashion, ironically enough, I go to Pinterest for fashion inspo as I browse through the high fashion content there. The only thing is that I'm too poor to buy/wear the outfits I vouch for.

Long hair might also mean metalhead, though overall I've been seeing less men with long hair. Though the pandemic salon closures may get more people to join our ranks.

4 and 8 /fa/ have some good pointers, but 4/fa/ was just a circle jerk of who could find ultrarare meme clothing, or roasting people for their soykafty sense of "style". 8/fa/ seems to have better content, but far fewer users.
I created a /fa/ thread here about 3 years ago and it stayed up for a while.
I like to adapt my style to where I live, lately I have been wearing suits as I live in the city. When I lived in a very rural area, I generally wore jeans/plaid shirts and a carhart jacket with work boots. Fashion can also get you into certain social circles (or keep you out of them if you are trying to avoid people).
I like how fast fashion has taken an eye from techwear and many places like Guess have started to sell tech wear style clothing or somewhat avant garde patterns. I just think that society as a whole is still pretty traditional or in "progressive" areas, people just dress like the other gender instead.
>>18711
Gibson dresses like he came straight out of a sci-fi/cyberpunk movie, not that it is a bad thing, but still it makes him fairly avant garde instead of "normal."

This sounds like bouncers or delivery people where I am lol. But terrorwave is actually pretty cheap and cyberpunk: Get cheap black tshirs and mix with combat boots and jeans, also makes you look really tough if you have muscle tone.
I used to subscribe to fashion magazines (which I got for my mother) but I would normally read them too. I like runway fashion but it is impossible to wear on the street and serves no actual purpose.
Techwear has been pretty big in 2020, I have seen a lot of places selling what looks like street wearable tactical gear (vests/nylon satchels/gortex jackets) all with pockets.
I am looking for a cheap pair of cargo pants or jogging pants with lots of pockets, any help? I don't mean 5.11 or tru-spec tho, looking for a more sporty and less military style

i wear either skater sneakers or boots like pic rel
i buy used clothing from thrift stores or get it from free shops
sometimes relatives gift me clothes so i don't always look like a punk
i did get various merch from schools and some corpo t-shirts from competitions and whatnot, but i still prefer wearing my old soykaf
fuarrrk capitalism, fuarrrk fast-fashion
Boris Grishenko · 2020-08-22 10:45
I haven't been that interested in fashion but as of late I've been more keen in developing a style for myself.
If I had to put what I want to do into words it'd be "early 20th century x post punk/goth with a pinch of techwear"

I go around with cheap soykafty clothes on purpose to keep other people off me, rigorously sweatshop made so they exploit the suffering of other humanoids. Imagine spending money to accommodate for other people's vanity, if I could dress any worse I would.

Survival look is popular for 2020 -_-

I feel down that so many fabrics in clothes are petro chemicals nylon, polyester, elastane which contributes to fossil fuel industry (though better than burned as fuel in some ways aside from the microplastics) or harmful chemical produced like rayon (sometimes rayon is falsely labeled as bamboo because it's source is bamboo). Even when it's a natural material it's often heavily sprayed with pesticides as it's grown and then dyed with chemical dyes or in case of leather tanners. These are all so harmful to either the environment or the people that work on them and the effects on the wearer is questionable. How does one even find clothes that look good but don't cost a ton and are made from more natural or safe processes?

Wool. Humans are mammals, our physiologies are much closer to sheep's than to those of a cotton or flax grass. Cotton grass doesn't sweat, nor does it needs to protect it's high body temperature at cold and windy highlands, sheep and humans do. A thick wool sock works equally good in winter and summer, a thin cotton condom stinks like rotten cheese after few hours of walk. You can even compare their water-dissipating qualities by air drying, a wool sock is completely dry 2 hours after washing. Of course there is cotton yarn, but why pay for inferior substitute when you can get real one, the only bearable form of cotton is denim fabric made with long fibers, forgot name of specific cotton species, it's only grown in Japan and spun 1000 times for extra durability xD. The real problem is that every piece of clothing these days seems to come with 1% elastane (PET) or neoprene for flexibility and skin-tight fit. A good sweater, pair of pants or shirt can easily be worn for decades, but what about underwear: it always contains elastic fibers and straps and has become disposable long time ago.
