Quick question: does any of you work as a freelance programmer or work full time on a one-man-project? I dislike my job.Programming nowadays is an awful corpocratic team effort where nothing gets done. Therefore I started to aim for a more managerial position to float above all this mess. I got what I asked for and I am bored out of my mind. The new role is better paid, but also a total joke. I do very little all day and yet i feel stressed. I want to leave corporate IT behind. I'm a competent artist, but I probably won't be able to make a stable income with this, especially not one that is similar to my current compensation Is it viable to be a programmer as a freelancer? Do corporations or companies take note of software that is maintained by one guy, considering they alsways go for the safest most mainstream solution, no matter how bloated or overpriced? Is anyone here who "made it" and can live off their hand full of hobby projects? Would greatly appreciate a reply or two. At this point I might go back into construction; that's where I started out- but its not solitary. I want to sit in my room alone all day, ideally.

If by "full time" you mean unemployed and by "one-man-project" you mean small python script then yes

As >>18053 pointed out there is already a similar thread, alternatively if you want to discuss freelancing in general perhaps you should check >>14988 and >>9911 This thread is locked and it will be deleted shortly.
