Anyone else feel almost spiritual about cyberpunk?
Meddler · 2020-05-04 15:35
Sometimes I daydream about being a monk and training every day in the misty Tibetan mountains, and sometimes I daydream about decking some corp in the rain outside a Kowloon noodle shop. These things feel the same to me, they're the only lives in meatspace that feel like more than meatspace life. Bring back /cyb/, applegay.
Arisu Mizuki · 2020-05-07 23:23
Yeah, kinda. Cyberpunk reality is more like the hell of my spirituality, though. But we are all sinners bound for hell, so we had best get to know it as well as we can manage.
Where'd your image come from, btw?

Some might find this hard to relate to but computers are occult machines that emulate the ideas of telepathy and especially of creation and ideas.
In our current time computers have the capacity to make the nonphysical to physically processable things, we can store, share, modify and transfer ideas, thoughts and even feelings in the physical realm.
We can create realms of our own thoughts now and even manipulate physical reality, which is the big idea behind spiritualism, do as thy wilt shall be the whole of the law.
But there is a devil out there that aims to reap our soul and does not want us to be free, who uses technology to control our minds and bodies.
We cannot let our constructs take control over our minds.
There is a path that we must walk in life and many deep mysteries in this life.
Its just like lain said, the real world out there isnt real at all, this world is a computer simulation, we exist in the matrix, that is why people can have spirit powers.
Many scientists now have overwhelming evidence of parallel realities, holographic universe principle and psychic powers
At the end something wonderful will happen, we just need to understand what this world is and what we really are.

Look in to Shingon Lainon, but don’t tell your mum. Shhhh, it’s a secret. It provided inspiration for the 1995 Ghost in the Shell movie
Anamika · 2020-05-10 15:12
Why are replies being deleted? First one I think said "metal withing, metal without" (sic) and another one was complementing me for posting Electric Dragon 80'000V (which is what the image is from btw >>17357 ). Lainchan is a hang out for yakuza ninjas and humanoid shadows in the cmbr, it's not fukkin stack exchange.

Looks cool lain, do you have a source on the inspiration? I don't doubt it's true, just want to read more about it.

Weird, I cannot seem to find a source now. I am starting to wonder if I like, ya know, totally made that soykaf up man... Although a lot of knowledge on Shingon tends to be somewhat scarce. I do think it is definitely pretty obvious that the film is a Buddhist parable about becoming enlightened (whereby Motoko lets go of the self and fuzes with the unified spirit of mankind to reach a higher, almost supernatural, consciousness). The huge amount of overlap seems clear to me, as Shingon is about becoming enlightened entirely within one’s own lifetime. Here is a related blogpost - http://examinedworlds.blogspot.com/2017/02/buddhist-philosophy-and-ghost-in-shell.html?m=1

Here is another post with which a ton of parallels with the movie can be easily seen - https://www.buddhistdoor.net/features/becoming-a-buddha-a-shingon-buddhist-10-step-program

But my point is, I think Cyb and Shingon go hand in hand imo, and it is perhaps the most cyb religion. Just don’t go telling people about it
Acid Burn · 2020-05-11 00:49

I think it is the ‘inevitability’ of Motoko’s enlightenment that may truly make it Shingon. Motoko becomes enlightened because it is written; that doesn’t exactly fly in other forms of Buddhism

You're telling loads of random people on the internet about it though? Is this reverse psychology or something?

No. How many people actually visit this site? These are the only people on the internet I care to tell about this, since I doubt most people will care

...it would ѕuсk ass if your religion became more mainstream? Interesting. Gotta say, that's not usually a strategy taken by faith but I kind of like it. Of course I guess an interpretation from that philosophy would just say that if it spreads, that's what was written. And if not, it won't.

Idk, just look at Zen Buddhism. It went from being stupid to absolutely f*cking r*tarded because of Westerners. You see the same thing in Rime Buddhism as well; a bunch of moronic Westerners try to make it their own, but aren’t totally committed, and end up damaging the practice. If it takes hold but people are committed, then it is a good thing I think

Yeah. I know this might be a weird place to say it, but Western fetishism for eastern culture really ѕuсkѕ to be honest

buddhism in general got fuarrrked. fuarrrking westerners think yoga is about getting a toned butt.

I think it’s really just western fetishism for ‘“exotic” foreign’ culture, but yes, I agree. It’s clearly a vestige of imperialism, yet those people always fail to see any irony. Idk, people seem to be way more self aware here to me. That makes all the difference

I do enjoy me a toned butt, but yeah it's incredibly weird that people have to do this lame attempt at spirituality along with it. Like just do some squats or isometric exercises, don't try to staple mysticism to it. It's as if they can't just be vain or hedonistic on its own; people always gotta dress it up with some kind of illusion of higher purpose. It's so bankrupt and soulless.

Yeah, whenever I beat myself up for not being totally in touch with reality, all I have to do is look at that and see that everyone isn’t that much different haha

Furthermore, only the Buddah reaches enlightenment in other forms of Buddhism, to my knowledge
Nobody important · 2020-05-11 21:15

That is why it wouldn’t fly in other forms of Buddhism. A lot of buddhism actually is all about ‘fate’ and ‘destiny’

The good news is that Westerners are unlikely going to ruin Shingon, as it is practiced almost exclusively in Japan

wanted to change this so it says Motoko reaches a greater, almost supernatural, state of awareness. That is more what it is all about. Greatly heightening awareness
