Where does one look for cyberpunk themed events online? I've searched up the biggest event hosting websites with no luck. Helpful answers appreciated

No such events exist.

Unfortunately genuine cyberpunk events tend to be very exclusive, local, and hard to track down. You're better off pulling together your own ragtag gang of cyberpunks and doing something yourself. Go blast breakcore in an abandoned warehouse, or dumpster dive behind tech outlets. Crudely discuss philosophy with a friend while trying to get as far up a corporate skyscraper as possible without getting caught. Cyberpunk is about individuality and autonomy friend.

>>16071 >>16196 No such thing. Cyberpunk isn't a real and physical movement. We can barely keep these boards alive. Has alice ever joined a LUG? I have been wondering if LUGs might contain intresting people.

>>16322 >isn't a real and physical movement Please elaborate?

>>16071 >>16196 >>16322 There's no such thing as a "cyberpunk movement" at all. Period. Any "cyberpunk events" are better seen as "cyberpunk themed". Most of this is bullshit third tier "artsy" retards who don't know the first thing about technology other than how to make their computers produce mentally handicapped WUB WUB noises. So what is one to do? Seek out an anarcho-* collective for starters. People in these spaces are much more likely to have a "cyberpunk" mindset and have desirable qualities (self-reliance, privacy-oriented, a healthy amount of paranoia, anti-capitalist, and so on). Also, anarchist collectives have a high propensity of being LBGTQQIAAP+++ and POC friendly if that floats your boat.

>>16071 You can always check Danger/u/ for some rp posting. Other than that idk

>>16322 Are you me? I have been thinking the exact same thing. cyberpunk isn't a movement. Its a loose aesthetic right now. I imagine i might find similarly minded people at LUGs. Global Pandemic has backburnered that idea for now.
Miho Iwakura · 2020-05-04 18:28
You won't be able to find a cyberpunk community, you should find a local punk community and maintain your interest in tech stuff. That's as close to living the cyberpunk life there is.

>>16341 but cypherpunk is a movement right?
Unknown · 2020-05-05 20:48
>>17306 I think it's more of an aesthetic, which drives inspiration from culture and certain movements.
Nanashi No Gombe · 2020-05-05 20:50
>>17306 No, it's a designation. Any "movement" died out years ago (it was just a mailing list, never anything more).
Debbie Charteris · 2020-05-06 21:27
>>16322 Pardon my ignorance, but what is a LUG?
Roy Batty · 2020-05-06 22:23
>>17306 >>17309 I don't think cypherpunk was ever any kind of recognizable or consistent aesthetic. It's mainly just what cryptocurrency and TOR freaks called themselves for a little while, plus perhaps a few people who actually were interested in crypto beyond just being a synonym for bitcoin. Eyeroll.
Turner · 2020-05-07 08:13
>>17310 >it was just a mailing list, never anything more Cypherpunks, not cyberpunk , was a mailing list and a few physicsl meetings who members wrote actual code started cryptome , wikileaks, setup anonymous retailers among other things. Diffie was involved. Stephen Levy's crypto is an awesome and terrifying history.

>>16071 >Where does one look for cyberpunk themed events online? I've searched up the biggest event hosting websites with no luck. Helpful answers appreciated Thanks to the pandemic any event is a cyberpunk themed one. You live in a cyberpunk world now.
BloodCat · 2020-05-08 22:18
>>17337 It was a lot older than cryptocurrency. They were focused on things like privacy, but bitcoin has no privacy, so it's a pretty mutilated word now that bitcoin people say theyre cypherpunks
