What the fuarrk is moot doing nowadays?

Junichi Fujiwara · 2020-01-31 00:56
He left for Google NYC in 2016, and then we never heard of him again. He stopped updating his blog and Twitter account ever since. 4chan feels like a massive training ground for AI nowadays, and I suspect at this point that Google has direct access to a private internal API of 4chan, maybe in exchange for a few shares and/or a monthly payment to Hiroyuki. Anyway, this is just my personal conspiracy theory, but what do (You) think?
Liet Kynes · 2020-01-31 01:00
He decided to put 4chan behind him and move to Japan to work for Google. He keeps a low profile out of necessity, given that he called people glitterboys and niggers with his admin code on. He can NEVER be a public figure ever again because of this. Google doesn't need any secrets from moot or payments to Hiro to harvest 4chan posters, Google captcha is needed for every post on 4chan unless you spend 20 bucks on a pass.
Unnamed · 2020-01-31 01:05
>>15585 This He's a slave to his own creation, I guarantee that google is keeping him on payroll in order to get access to 4chan, it's obvious what happened ever since captcha was introduced on there. As far as him going silent it's actually not true, he did an interview with the new yorker or something last time I checked, I think he's just done with social media and the internet in general , I can't imagine the stuff he would see on there to make a man to stay sane
Hiro Protagonist · 2020-01-31 01:50
>>15585 >He keeps a low profile out of necessity, given that he called people glitterboys and niggers with his admin code on. He can NEVER be a public figure ever again because of this. It makes absolute sense, moot can't ever be retroactively PC in the weird and hysterical framework of politics America is currently dealing with. >>15586 >he did an interview with the new yorker or something last time I checked Please post the source if you have it at hand, because I can't find it on duckduckgo. >I think he's just done with social media and the internet in general , I can't imagine the stuff he would see on there to make a man to stay sane Would make a ton of sense too. >captchas That's what makes me suspicious of a private arrangement with Google in the first place. The captchas are really bothersome to complete (and massively train AIs with sights of Californian roads in the process) possibly because gookmoot can make money easily out of passes, and maybe it is just Hiroyuki being lazy, but I don't know... Maybe Google has a direct interest in 4chan as a platform to experiment anonymously with bots producing strings of text and watch the effects they produce on human behavior, as a grand-scale Pavlov-like behaviorist experiment. Maybe it's both. It's 2020 for fuarrrk's sake.
Vasya Pupkin · 2020-01-31 06:44
I think he just grew up and moved on, after spending 10? years with 4chan and having a failed start up it only makes sense to do so. Does anyone know if he's still an employee at Google? He was hired to work on Google Plus which has since then been abandoned
Wintermute · 2020-01-31 07:51
He does have a pretty unique skillset of managing undeground internet subcultures.

Lain Iwakura · 2020-01-31 14:02
More than likely he has some do nothing job analyzing "internet culture" or something along those lines. seeing as he build a huge online community in the early 00's.
Six · 2020-01-31 15:28
>>15589 I can 100% guarantee that someone (if not google, or as well as google) is using 4chan for that purpose. You just know someone thought of doing that, not to mention think of how many programmers grew up on 4chan. It's an obvious place to field test AI, if you want a guaranteed audience to interact with.
Rick Deckard · 2020-01-31 15:56
He's in his 30s now and has a well documented past with compromising photos and using non-PC language with a tripcode on, he probably just wants to settle down and forget it all. He was just a weeb who wanted a place to hang out with other weebs, he never wanted to be in the center of one of the most controversial websites of all time. He works for Google Japan now, which is about as close to a happy ending a techy weeb who doesn't care about politics can get. Captcha got implemented because some Swedish pedo kept flooding 4chan, it was supposed to be temporary but I wouldn't be surprised if Google offered him a way out in exchange for keeping it. He would basically be impossible to hire in the USA and his attempt at making a more profitable indie startup failed. He's on record doing more than enough things to be permablacklisted from the west, Google's offer was probably the only way out.

>>15601 100% agree with your post. I don't blame moot for bailing, but I stopped using 4chan already at that point.

>>15585 >>15601 these His brewing soykafs are part of internet history. Imaging trying to undo that. His humble attitude and soft temper really got him off the hook for his past thoughtcrimes, and I don't think anyone will chase after him unless he tries to make a public comeback, which of course he won't. Do you think he is well? Does he have panic attacks? Does he ever wake up in a pool of cold sweat?
Ishikura "Tatsu" Tatsuhiko · 2020-02-01 22:12
I would feel real bad if I were seeing as to what his carefree/just for fun weeb forum turned into. If you want proof people cannot govern themselves, look no further than the Internet.
Nobody important · 2020-02-02 01:11
>>15621 As far as 4chan is concerned, it was definitely normal people' fault if it died. It was like a curious little location that got featured on TV and is now a tourist attraction with booths for merch and a constant crowd of people throwing trash everywhere while they wait in line for their selfie.
J.C. Denton · 2020-02-04 22:38
>>15584 >4chan feels like a massive training ground for AI nowadays I wouldn't be surprised and, as others have mentioned, Google would have a particularly easy time doing this. I came across this video recently and it shows how bad things are over there. If posting is being automated, then it seems clear that humans are being lowered to the machine, rather than machines being raised to the humans. Why make a machine that can act intelligent when you can have it spew nonsense and get the humans to spew it with them? This exemplifies the value of requiring intelligent and reasoned discourse. I'm aware of machines that supposedly can pass the Turing test well enough to advertise products or sway people to buy things, but I'm not doing that, so that's a point in favor of my humanity. I left 4chan shortly after he did, but for unrelated reasons. While his story may seem sad in some ways, because of how his behaviour has followed him, I think it's good form to write only what I'd be proud of if it were later connected to me; this can be a chilling effect, but I also lack the want to be normal, so I wouldn't be mortified even if the really weird stuff I do were ever traced back to me. It also makes me wonder if I'll have an echo comparable to his, and if I'd want to.

>>15855 >past statements People change. Moot started 4chan in 2003 and left over a decade later in 2015. In terms of someone's life, that's a pretty freaking long time. You also have to remember that Moot was in his mid-teens when he started the site. When you're in your mid-teens-early-20s, you change more in one year than you do in a decade later in life. The Moot that founded 4chan doesn't exist anymore. He grew up, got a social life, and moved on.
