Any manga/anime/series you've been keeping up with?

Hiro Protagonist · 2019-09-22 01:34
I've been reading 'Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san' and while is not the second coming of Jesus it's a good read for killing time when you have nothing to do

I generally binge-watch/read things when they finish, so nothing much that's still coming out. I finished the Yuru Yuri anime recently. At first it was something I watched when I was too soykaffaced to appreciate shows with more substance, but by now I genuinely miss it. The only new things I'm keeping up with are Nagatoro, which is pretty much how you described it, I'd give it about a low 7/10 (though me wanting her to step on me helps me enjoy it ofc), and Hunter x Hunter (though calling that current is a bit of a stretch).

I've recently started marathoning Baccano! and I quite like it so far. I can give more thoughts once I finish it, but an acquaintance highly recommend it.
Spooky · 2019-09-25 18:25
I love Nagatoro. She reminds me a lot of a girl I briefly dated in college. Sure do miss that. Lately I've been reading Aposimz as it comes out. And I recently found an old artist I used to love on the wayback machine, so I've been going through his stuff and wallowing in filthy nostalgia.

Right now I'm only up to date with Bungou Stray Dogs (tho the latest arc is bullshit) and Grand Blue. I'm going through Kaguya Sama, Komi San, and Murcielago. Recently finished reading Melancholia by Seiman Douman and holy fuarrrk, I can't recommend it enough. The writing is supperb and blew my mind a good couple of times while going through it. It's pretty short (27 chapters) so I really recommend binge reading it since it hits way better that way.

I'm rewatching alderamin of the sky, and I've just finished what's out for the plunderer manga since it's going to get an anime pretty soon.
Cypher · 2019-10-12 17:25
>>13000 I don't want to spoil any of it, but Baccano! is an enjoyable story told out of order. The animation was noticeably good. Some parts of the story later on were hard to believe, even coming after everything else. Also, I found it unnecessarily gory and violent in the last quarter or so, where it passed from simply violent to absurdly over the top. Still, it was good and I could recommend it.

I've been reading Berserk. Holy SHIT did it start out depressing. I'm on Volume 9 now, and thankfully it's become less soul-crippling... for now. It's astonishing to me that this was all drawn/written by one person - the man is a true genius.
Ivan Horvat · 2019-10-14 05:51
>>13132 I can't believe it's STILL. BEING. PUBLISHED. Like it's such a long-running comic. I frankly loved the early bits and think the current part is a weird random slog unrelated to the original stories but it's still fun to read.
Jim Hilger · 2019-10-14 12:27
Started Meiji Tokyo Renka, on episode 3 currently, enjoying it thus far, it's kind of stupid but enjoyable nonetheless, it's gotten kind of bad reviews on MAL so I'm somewhat expecting an asspull ending, but most of MAL appears to be exceptionally lacking in intelligence as well, perhaps if there is an asspull ending I'll be able to have a good time ITT ranting about it

I am watching the anime Dr Stone. It's actually pretty good! I know some people think it's like the Rick and Morty of anime, and although I won't pretend like you need to be smart to get Dr Stone or something, it does use real life facts to back up it's scientific claims so if you're into science, you might appreciate it for that. If not then you'll still appreciate it for the story. It's got a really cool concept and story! Short version with no spoilers: every single human being in the entire world somehow got turned into stone statues. After 3k years of everyone being stone, the main character (Senkuu, whom is a genius boy scientist) and his friend from high school, are the first human beings to wake up, and they plan on re-building civilization back.

Read biomega again the artwork is something I could stare at for days without growing tired. Tsutomu Nihei is an amazing human.
Just another Random Lainon · 2019-11-21 02:13
>>13850 He really is, agent. I must have read Blam! half a dozen times. There is nothing like it.
Cowboy · 2019-11-21 02:15
>>13850 Yeah. I wish Nihei would release a clothing line or something. I know I would just look like a soykafty weeb nerd in it, but all his character designs are so cooool. Also wish there was like an expansive, explorable 3d game environment designed by him
Hagbard Celine · 2019-11-21 02:20
>>13852 I really loved the start of Sidonia, and all the little landscape pieces. I think that ship would be great to explore in a game. That was all the best parts of the series, to me.
Jens Hansen · 2019-11-22 04:31
I've been reading Dr Stone rather excitedly as the chapters come out. Every time I get a new chapter my heart rate jumps a bit lol >>13132 Berserk is actually a masterpiece to be honest. It's so well-written and there's so much to take in. I'm binging that one right now My only problem with it is Puck. He started out as a pivotal and interesting character, and now it feels like he's just there to piss me off
Fred Nurk · 2019-11-23 06:17
>>12959 Thank you for the Ida I'll thank about it.
Project 2501 · 2019-11-23 07:02
>>13853 I feel that, I loved the balance they struck between being kind of hard sci-fi in the ship design while also being kind of fantastical and I wanna say rustic? If that makes sense. All the maneuvers and g-forces tearing it up inside, and all the hidden decks and forgotten areas, weird old stone castles hidden away in a vast, vertical landscape... I'd absolutely play a game where you explore a huge generational starship modeled off that. I'd also love a game where you explore an infinite, procedurally-generated megastructure like the city in Blame. Maybe using a wave-function collapse algo like this one to make it varied and well-interconnected: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eziXcohfs14
SHODAN · 2020-06-27 09:09
Good taste, i recommend the takagi san series.
Guthrie · 2020-06-27 09:19
>>13964 You might find Yedoma Globula interesting. Though it's more fractal and organic, rather than a megastructure like Blame. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Iy-TeiZ11E

Shimeji Simulation It's the new series from Tkmiz, who wrote Girls Last Tour. It's still early so it's not totally clear what's happening. There's people with various things on their heads (the main character has shimeji mushrooms growing out of her head after spending a year living in her closet but there's other things like a fried egg, books, a live octopus), mysterious objects around a strangely empty town where the main characters sister built a machine to "fix the world". There's some speculation that the entire town is a simulation (hence the name). It's a monthly 4-koma comic so it's not a quick progression but it's been nice so far to slowly see the world that they've created.

>>12959 I'm three volumes away from finishing Prison School. Some jokes are a bit worn out, such as Andre's masochism, and I feel that the manga is excessively sexual. It was definitely dragged out far too long. Everything kind of went to soykaf the moment the official student council showed up.
Roger Pollack · 2020-07-30 22:08
Eden: It's an Endless World is my fav so far in the "only exists as manga" section.
