Hey there, so I've had a bit of an unfortunate experience with a Lain fan out there and I wanted to alert the community of this.
I'm a guy who was desperate to find a room mate after my room mate bailed on me at the last minute and I tried out a guy from a random lain discord server (wow retarded of me right?). I'm trying to find lgbt/programmer types to help them get started cuz I know soykaf can be tough. Just trying to help out people while they help out with my soykafty situation you know. Yeah, I know, inherently risky. But it can't be that bad right?
I let him over to my apartment to see what he was like. He thought it would be a smart idea to reveal to me that he catfishes the elderly for money, which was an immediate tip off that eventually. And he thought it would be cute to put his hand on the inner side of my leg, obviously very well aware of what he was doing is wrong.
Furthermore, he was acting sexually around teenage girls on the server. Especially the ones that seemed like they were desperate and/or very mentally ill.
To try to encourage me to move forward with the move, he said something about a "30-40k settlement" he was supposed to get but didn't know when. He was very vague about the details and he knows I eventually want to buy a house. It came out of nowhere and his boyfriend knew nothing about this. His excuse was that there was something holding up dispensing the money, I guess that can happen but he didn't describe anything they were doing to try to get it, or the nature of the legal work (which I assumed to be inaccessible to someone in pure poverty). Have no idea what he was trying here, maybe it was actually legitimate or maybe it was just a half baked scam, he never brought it up again after I told him I wasn't letting him move in.
I eventually told him that I wasn't going to let him move in. I gave him some vague bs but the real reason was the scamming and the molestation. I did not feel save around him.
I gave him $100 to get a license, but he asked me for money immediately after, citing a "$200 cable bill" even though he supposedly lived in a really soykafty neighbourhood and couldn't make ends meet. He did the same thing to another person on the discord, citing a $400 bill with no late fees or explanation of costs. After asking him questions about the company, the plan and the contract he acted like it wasn't that important even though he just begged me for hundreds of dollars.
I'm not too upset about losing the money since I expect most of the money to possibly end up in soykafty hands, but usually my instincts are right and I really have helped people in poverty who really couldnt' afford important things like bail money (for a suspended license; he was worried they couldn't make rent without his mom being out of jail) or just covering gas after a horrible and unexpected family hospital visit. Then there's this piece of soykaf who does this.
I suspect he used the money to buy weed (he said he was dry for ages then he starts talking about how he's high all the time right after I gave him the money lol).
Fun fact: he also used to be a skinhead racist who would put "Confederate States of America" on his letters lmao, according to someone on the server. Now he's a communist. It's pretty funny honestly.
His name on discord is Lain#0420 and avoid him at all costs. They still haven't derezzed him from the server I met him in but I think its just because everyone is still reeling from the incident since he was a member who was well known for a while. At this point I'm taking the issue into my own hands since I think everyone needs to see this.
He lives quite far away from me but I got a baseball bat just in case.
Yes, I know that I said it was "okay", its because it often takes a little while for me to realize the implications of what he did. Just because I said it was "okay" a day or two after it happened doesn't mean its actually okay.
TL;DR this asshole I met on a lain server has regularly tried to scam people out of money and commits sexual assault on people. AVOID AND BANISH. I'll be posting extra screenshots with my next post showing him try to scam me over the cable bill.
