Rubik's Cubes - Any Cubers Here?

ren · 2019-05-09 15:35
Hi, just starting a thread to see if there are any cubers in this community. I pretty much quit cubing a couple years ago, but I'm curious to see the ratio of cubers here compared to the typical ratio I find in "nature". To foster more discussion: > Your 3x3 PB at home > Your 3x3 PB in competition > Average 3x3 > How long you've been cubing > Favorite event > Main cube Good day to all.

Oh and I almost forgot to mention my own stats, 3x3 at home (4.69) 3x3 in comp (9.60) <- ugh Global Average: In my prime sub 9.5 seconds Cubing since 2011 Favorite Event: 3x3 Main: Heavily modded Dayan Zhanchi

How do you solve 3*3 in 4.69 secs?

>>11606 It was a last layer skip with a really easy F2L

i can solve a rubiks cube but its not a hobby of mine fastest is probably like 40 secs and ive dont know any comps bump because its kind of interesting

>>11605 I solved the cube (and any similar rotational puzzles) with commutators without looking for any moves amywhere, I use: FR'F'R X R'FRF' X', with X that changes based on what I want and with the edge always in front of me. I'm pretty slow because of this, but I don't care, I like to make patterns and drawing. My favourite is the 4x4 (I had to invent a move for center parity, edge's one is solvable with commutators).

>>12389 that sounds cool! how can I learn to do this? I solved the cube by following instructions and it felt really lame because of it.
Otto Normalverbraucher · 2019-11-15 04:33
>>12389 I used to do that, too many people learn speedsolving methods and are at the same time totally ignorant of any theory i.e. commutators. If you cant solve a cube without blind algorithm stimulus response you can't really solve a cube.>>12389

33 seconds : )

I learned how to solve the 3x3 with instructions, then forgot how to do it and developed a method with my uncle in two or three days using bits of what he and I remembered. One day he gave me a 4x4 one and I managed to solve it without instructions in an hour or so long session trying to do it, which was an awesome experience. Then I developed a poor method that is based on trial and error for the last layer that I kept using until I broke the cube in pieces one day when I was mad and somewhat manic because of some other soykaf (I was going through a rough period) and never owned a cube again since.

>>11605 > Your 3x3 PB at home 28s > Your 3x3 PB in competition n/a > Average 3x3 a little under a minute, I think > How long you've been cubing More than 4 years but there's been long stretches of time where I didn't touch a cube > Favorite event n/a > Main cube The one cube I have is a Dayan Zhanchi I use a standard 2FL, 2-step PLL, 2-step OLL procedure. I could get some gains by learning 1-step PLL and OLL I guess. There's also methods with starting from a corner but I don't think I'm gonna invest time in that.
