It's essentially a barely-held-together rant/autobiography, so it's hard to say what I'm hoping to discuss about it in particular, but I found it engaging on a personal level. If we had a communal art gallery, I would suggest putting an old CRT on the wall, playing this video on it, and titling it "A Portrait of the Lainon as a Young Man." Does it provoke any interesting or relevant thoughts in you?

I disagree with your vision of Lain's fandom online. To me Lain is more of a symbol of the cyberpunk mindset and an anime who impacted a lot of people, hence the subculture attached to her. It's also because, as you said, many people relate to her. They are not holding her as a goal but as a partner in pain working on a common goal: finding a way out of the existential void. Even though ultimately the same problem she met get to us too: The online word can’t be the answer to real life problem. So to me Lain is not a god to be worshiped but a virtual friend or a representation of ourselves. I think you also exaggerate a lot of Lain’s mental illness, I think there is only a few big one, all originating from her isolation. Generally, it’s a bad idea to try to diagnose other people since we only have few unreliable elements to judge from and little to no experience on how to interpret what we’re given. Other than that your video was really interesting, it felt a bit like an experience.

The episodic themes in Boogipop tie into themes of episodes in Lain which give greater understanding. Most everyone in the mundane Lain fandom is focused on Lain, but ignores the Serial Experiments, or series of experiments. Other influential works of art at the time aimed at young adults make up the context for the real world cultural commentary that SEL debates; Real experiments, esp. post-WWII performed on the Japanese, are continually referenced throughout both... Considering that lainchan itself has done no real research into decoding the esoteric symbolism and obtaining the truths referenced in SEL, and that the vast fandom is focused only on the surface level aspect of Lain (even ignoring obvious linguistic encoding of The Path, i.e, a Lane (Lain)), I assert that my aforementioned statement holds. Lain's animated form is the aspect of a real being with many names who can be revealed to you...
