Dead Cow Cult Beto

Tyrell Wellick · 2019-03-16 21:45
So apparently Beto O’Rourke was a member of the cult of the dead cow. He used to pirate video games over BBS and other such hijinx. What do you think about all that? Has he sold out? I don't think it is a bad thing. We might see a candidate take internet freedom seriously, and actively fight for it. If he really had ties with cDc it would be good for the internet as a whole

I feel that I am one with my intellect and my soul. It was during these dreams and visions that I concocted a notion. It started as something small at first, but after every dream it grew stronger, until the urge had become too great. No longer could this strong desire in my mind be suppressed. Recognizing this fact, my one and only goal in life became the termination of everything that was free and loving. Only I could realize the true value of loving and expression. Only in my dreams. This feeling pervaded everything in my life, yet the first few months after realizing my goal, I had done nothing. Then one day, as I was driving home from work, I noticed two children crossing the street. They were happy, happy to be free from their troubles. I knew, however, that this happiness and sense of freedom were much too overwhelming for them. This happiness was mine by right. I had earned it in my dreams. As I neared the young ones, I put all my weight on my right foot, keeping the accelerator pedal on the floor until I heard the crashing of the two children on the hood, and then the sharp cry of pain from one of the two. I was so fascinated for a moment, that when after I had stopped my vehicle, I just sat in a daze, sweet visions filling my head. My dream was abruptly ended when I heard a loud banging on the front window. It was an old man, who was using his cane to awaken me. He might have been a witness to my act of love. I was not sure, nor did I care. It was simply ecstasy. As I drove home, I envisioned myself committing more of these "acts of love", and after a while, I had no trouble carrying them out. The more people I killed, the longer my dreams were. I soon quit my job, and stayed at my house in an almost comatose state. My dreams grew longer and more vivid. They kept me alive and proved to be the only thing to live for. I had killed nearly 38 people by the time of my twenty-third birthday, and each one was more fulfilling than the last. I was never really surprised at how I evaded the police. My dreams had taken over my life, and they guided me through the right path, and I never had need for fear of police. Or anything, for that matter.

I think the title of the Common Dreams article that Stallman linked to sums up my feelings about Beto. He seems charismatic but, at least for a while, he gave off this very "all things to all people" vibe. First impressions matter and mine were after he lost the midterms not the midterms themselves. I think he was asked at one point if he thought the Constitution was outdated and he gave a very non-committal answer that could be read either way. Since then I haven't seen much to change that impression. He couches his answers a lot in phrases like "I'm open to...", "We probably should...", "It might be a good idea that..." All politicians do that to some degree, but it makes any policy positions suspicious. I remember Jill Stein in 2016 agreeing with the ideas of anyone who looked remotely close to the idea of supporting her. It kind of wears me down after a while.

I hate how Beto is cool in all the irrelevant ways but when it comes to the stuff that actually matters he's a boring neolib.
Spike Spiegel · 2019-03-17 23:20
>>10928 Maybe he is just playing 4d chess. He is playing like a normal person so that all the normal fuarrrkos vote him in, but really he is a trojan horse and once he attains real power and influence he will pull out all the stops and do weird soykaf. I'd prefer this narrative of him pretending to be normal over the narrative that he just sold out and is a loser. but the latter is more likely.

I've seen many responses to this news as if it's inherently positive. This is only speculation from the sidelines, but I'm of two minds regarding this. It is refreshing to see younger candidates running for office who have an understanding of the digital world that we now inhabit, but what if O’Rourke being an ex-hacker is or has been a liability? What if he was compromised by 3 letter agencies in some nefarious manner years ago?
Mentat · 2019-03-18 08:12
>>10936 Honestly, I think that is putting more faith in the 3 letter agencies than they deserve. If he were an asset, I'd expect a lot more media play and polish in his presentation. Quite frankly, I think he's going to catch a wave that crashes when he goes up against more experienced political knife-fighters (figuratively speaking)
