Where would you move in the U.S?

This is kind of specific but where would you move in the U.S right now? For me and my mother, low crime and cheap or fair rent are #1 priority, and I need to stay in the Southwest area for family reasons, does anyone know some places I should look at? I'm wanting to move in 6 months time. Any info would be appreciated.

I want to move to phoenix or maybe flagstaff.

definitely arizona or nevada, would highly recommend looking into taxation and driving laws (licensing, tags etc.)
