Being completely directionless in life as I am I've tossed around the idea of maybe trying to start farming again on old family farmland. I realize that it's pretty much impossible to make good profit on small farming anymore but hey. Any farmers out here?

I know several people who survive part time on pretty small farms (eastern Canada, not on great land either) but they do other work too. I goddamn HATE farm work though so I can't really help you.

Farming is a akin to fuarrrking an ultra-large bedridden landwhale, if you have the right mindset you'll enjoy the heck out of it

you'd be better off trying subsistence farming with a wide variety of plants. It's lower yield, but much more stable and you get fresh veggies.

I suggest hydroponic micro. It will maximize profit for small acreage.

I suggest doing research on permaculture and companion planting. It seems to require less maintenance than monoculture since the plants are suppose to work with each other such as some plants absorbing excess moisture which then helps prevent potatoes from going bad.

This guy has some valid points. After reading him i would like to become more self-sufficient, indempendent of technology. My parents are farmers, i have my own land, so i thought about learning farming. Planting your own vegetables, raising chickens for eggs (not killing them, i would like to become vegetarian someday). Simple, natural. Could you please give me some PDF or blogs where i learn basics of Farming. Farming thread general
