Ghosts And Demons

How many Lainons here believe in paranormal phenomenon?
Do you guys believe in spirits that survive death to live in another realm?
Any Lainons here have encountered any such events?
What really happens when we die?
The energy in our body goes where all organisms' energy goes after death: into the environment.
Or, good people go to heaven and bad people go to hell.
What are your personal thoughts?

After reading the book Hunt for the Skinwalker, (which is a good book btw. Highly recommended) I've been toying with the idea presented in the book that there are dimensional layers of reality. I think the book says there's 12 or so in total. So we are currently on the 5th layer and those who are psychically attuned can perceive one or so layers above and below us. We moved up to this layer because of the threats of extra-dimensional beings in the 4 previous layers and we might need to move to the 6th layer soon because those same beings are forcing their way into this layer and manifesting as things like UFOs and the skinwalkers.
I don't really believe any of that is true, but it is so fantastical that I like to think about it sometimes. I want to build some stories around that idea if I ever get to writing again.

I think demons and ghosts are real as psychological fenomena.
That means that to humans they are VERY real.
The mind is an ecosystem, in here grow good things and bad things. Rarely is someone aware of what their garden grows.

If the mind believes it, then it's real.

I find that when I'm around people who believe for long periods of time, I start seeing things too. When I'm alone for long periods of time I retreat into my own thoughts and never encounter anything.
I was close to some Native Americans once and during that time, felt things around me always and believe I saw at least one ghost. I had a girlfriend later who saw faeries constantly and I started to be able to sense them. I couldn't see them but I could them out and she would confirm they were there.

I'm not that familiar with Buddhism but I think something in their beliefs supports this? Demons and angels are manifestations of human mind, even collectively among many people, and as such are still very real.
BloodCat · 2018-05-12 07:24
This isn't a phenomenon lain, they simply don't exist as >>7921 said. I'd suggest reading a biology text book instead of trying to delude yourself with beliefs that can't be confirmed.

Paranormal is just normal that you don't understand yet. I don't believe anything I don't see or know.
>Do you guys believe in spirits that survive death to live in another realm?
This is just your survival instinct making you hope and believe that you'll live forever. Most people don't believe in this, they just hope because otherwise they'd descend into nihilism. But don't confuse hope with belief.
>What really happens when we die?
Nothing. You piss yourself and start decaying.
>The energy in our body goes where all organisms' energy goes after death: into the environment.
Energy transforms, yes. What's your point?
>good people go to heaven and bad people go to hell.
No. This is what totalitarians wanted their people to believe. Systems than brainwash people into believing in a form of divine punishment are simply doing it because it makes at least some people more obedient, which was especially true in the old days. This allows the politicians and leaders seem less evil and puts the blame on fictional gods and demons while they (leaders) pretend to work in your best interest.

Anon, I was saying they do exist, even if only in your mind.

If people want to have a discussion about it, I don't see the point in dumping a fedora load of piss all over the thread. Do you honestly think you're saying anything they haven't heard from every corner of the internet already? Do you really expect to convert anyone by repeating it all over?

That's quite interesting, I've obviously interpreted it the wrong way then. My apologies. However, I'd have to disagree then with
>they do exist, even if only in your mind.
If you believe that someone is going to give you $100k tomorrow lain, that doesn't mean that your belief is correct. It doesn't mean that someone is really going to give you $100k tomorrow. It just means that you believe in a baseless belief without backing it up rationally.

You're right. However, If I were to delude everyone around me that I had a hundred grand, then everyone would act as if I had the hundred grand. The catch is it only works if all parties involved believe it. Unless the world is solipsist, in which case "all parties involved" becomes just yourself.
Same thing with bullsoykaf "spiritually based" martial arts: it only works if both parties believe that some invisible meme force actually exists and is directly affecting their opponent.
To use a paranormal example, consider tulpas. If I were to believe a purely mental being with emotions, personality, and intelligence was inhabiting my mind, whats the difference between it's consciousness and those of the people around me? On a more cyberpunk note, say I upload my own consciousness into a computer. If I were to then upload the consciousness of someone I knew from my own cyber-conscious, would it be any less conscious than my own digital mind?
>you can't, say, delude yourself into not dying of a terminal disease
Death is a stubborn bitch.

>If I were to delude everyone around me that I had a hundred grand, then everyone would act as if I had the hundred grand. The catch is it only works if all parties involved believe it.
I think that this hyperbole falls short when applied to "ghosts" and "demons" and other such deities. Mainly since the only party involved in this case would be just you and your personal beliefs. As I've said here >>7938 I don't think that believing in such claims is necessarily good without at least trying to confirm them. While I do agree with this lainon >>7955, if someone would like to believe in ghosts/demons, I'd strongly encourage them to put their beliefs to the test first before they already make up their mind that they do exist. Grab the Satanic bible, sacrifice a couple of goats and start chanting Satanic prayers -I'm ignorant on how should someone go on about summoning a demon, so take my advice on that with a grain of salt.

> take my advice on that with a grain of salt
For starters, Anton La Vey and his bible are based on atheism, not spiritualism. His church only uses Satan as a symbol, they have no actual faith or belief in anything, including summonable demons.
