A random idea

If I become a CEO or get filthy rich for any reason I will run an university that is focused on computer science and nothing else and admissions will be based on merit so students will have to prove that they have the skills and the talent in computer science. This can be done by showing off their project(s) related to their field as well as other related skills (knowing theory counts too). Students will get financial aid depending on their skill level if a student doesnt have qualifying skills he/she can pay the full price to enroll of course assuming these students already have a high STA/IB score. The university focusses on educating their students to work in the programming/gaming/IT/* industries and doesnt bog them down in unrelated information after the first year student is encouraged to do projects rather than studying text books and it has all that internship jazz as well. Also masters and phd is discouraged as a bachelors is all you need to start working in the industry What do you think is it just unrealistic? Assume we have infinite money for the uni

I dunno how it is in your country, but in mine people usually care about where the guy got his degree from. There's a lot of small and big unis here that focus on computer science and tech as a whole but at the time of selecting candidates for a position, they throw away resumes coming from certain unis. I think your idea is great but at least here it wouldn't be viable. I'm from a latin american soykafhole though, I don't know how it works in big countries.

I had similiar Idea. Other great idea is to create highschool for "inventors", people who can prove themselves with their projects with less focus on boring stuff and more personal approach to students. With barelly no classes (rather invidual meetings with mentors/teachers). With ability to learn many different things, like, playing trumpet for example. Ehh it would be great to attend there.

I guess we are all from 3rd world soykafholes From the information I have gathered from talking to people in the industry (over the internet) they don't really care where your degree came from of course if you graduate from a good uni you will be more likely to be chosen but if you didn't do any projects in that uni this uni's graduate will be much likely to be chosen. I said assume we have infinite money for the uni because I did not mention any hacks for making money. Maybe we might teach art, lit and all the other soykaf in a seprate building and if we give out much less generous aid to those guys and sustain the uni to a level The selection process can include personality tests and a series of questions with the intent of measuring general tech literacy of the student with this way we can reduce the number of people we admit to the uni and give generous aid to

So students will have to prove they already have the skills you're going to teach them?
Armitage · 2017-11-09 08:57
They must prove that they are competent in computer science so yes but this university teaches advanced topics and spends little time over basics also most of the work that the student will do is to write software he/she can network with other people like him/her and work on projects together

>>5820 maybe if u had a better education u could come up w/ better ideas

I think most people want a more rounded education and actually want some humanities courses, whether it's relevant to their career or not. Also someone who wants to design video games for instance might like to take some art and drama courses, since games are more and more like movies now.

>>5841 There can be courses specifically for game devs/sysAdmins* as well as general programming oriented computer science these courses will give as much useful information as possible as for the folks up there the uni is not expecting you to know about computer science , even though in these times it is very easy to acquire resources to learn just about anything online, students can't learn all of them in high school if they can prove that they have the fundementals and can build upon them the uni gives them generous aid

>>5820 >[a] university that is focused on computer science and nothing else Because this is exactly what the world needs. More 20-something year olds who literally cannot understand anything except tech. >gaming I suggest you look up Rule 0. In the adult world video games aren't actually that big a deal you know.

>>5843 Over the last decade we've watched a significant segment of the *chan generation molt from: > me and my STEM degree are gonna be awash in money and pussy and you humanities plebs aren't going to qualified to wipe my ass into: > tfw crappy job, huge debt, no gf, still in mom's basement ;_; who can I turn to to blame now ...so yeah.
