Reminder to start regular exercising. Even light things, like jogging may greatly increase your physical and most importantly your mental well-being.

Oh yeah About 3 weeks ago I've moved to another house. Now I have a levee where I run and public open air gym with lots of chin-up bars. I feel much better since I've started working out.
Yamaoto Toshi · 2017-10-31 23:03
I've never been slim and I want to get fit now. Hopefully I'll get to do it. Would Lain recommend me some exercises? Obviously I'll diet too. Wish me luck!
John Titor · 2017-11-01 00:54
>>5679 In college my roommate had a chinup bar and whenever I had nothing to do I would use that until my arms got tired. Its strangely addicting and I think as far as exercises that ones pretty good for you. Maybe pick a minimum number you'll do each go and gradually up the number every now and then.

>>5679 You can start off doing body weight exercises until you build some reasonable strength. Make sure you use proper form since I did push ups wrong for awhile and I think it weakened my shoulders. I prefer functional fitness versus body building, although you can't go wrong with power lifting or oly lifting once you get comfortable with getting stronger.
Incognito · 2017-11-03 03:30
>>5679 The key is perseverance. Try to strive for increasing your capacity (do a little more than your 'max' ), but don't force yourself. If you're not used to excercising then you need to start slow. Maybe take a long walk, with some jogging. Start doing some anaerobic excercise (like crunches, push-ups, planks).

I don't know if it was because I was afraid the thing was going to fall or my upper body strength was soykaf, but still. Even when I was in shape and running several miles a day, I still sucked at pull-ups.
Miho Iwakura · 2017-11-15 14:04
>>5680 Don't do them every day, if you're just starting out, every other day is a good place and feel it out from there. Do pushups on your off days (works the exact opposite muscles)

>>5782 I couldn't do pull-ups when I was in the best shape of my life. Now I can do like 10 no problem. I have no idea why this is. Maybe because I started swimming butterfly, and then started doing rows... but kind of defeats the purpose of pull-ups if you already have a strong back
Hitomi · 2017-11-28 15:50
>>5782 A few years ago, I bought one of those off a friend because he wasn't using it and was strapped for cash at the time. Ended up deciding I wanted to be able to do ten pullups, could barely manage one at the start. What helped me a lot was an exercise, and I apologize that I can't remember the name, where you use a chair to get over the bar, step off the chair, and slowly lower yourself down. Every other day, I would do 3 sets of as many pullups as I could followed by as many of those exercises as I could and I ended up hitting the 10 pullups in a setting goal pretty fast.

are there any exercises you can do at home without spending too much? I was thinking sit-ups, push-ups, etc but I don't think that would help my whole "body fat" situation. I don't want to really go outside since it's freezing out, and that I'm very introverted. I want to start running, but see above reasons. I feel like I'm giving myself excuses to not do anything. I'm starting to diet also. I'm on the brink of "overweight" on the BMI scale

I never would have thought running would do this much good for my emotions and mind so quickly. I'm 25, anti-social, and mostly depressed or angry more often it seems with the sad state of affairs I see in politics and news coverage and my soykaf job. Running has significantly changed my outlook on things very fast. I started just running for fifteen minutes or so with my dog. After a bit I picked it up to 30 minutes a day for now and I can already sprint faster and run longer than I would've thought possible. If you're going, keep at it. Don't strain yourself. You can do it, Lains!

>>6909 How true is the proposition that running fuarrrks up your joints. I know it applies somewhat to heavily overweight people.
Yu-ichi · 2018-02-11 05:24
>>6931 Fat people are heavier and thus burn calories faster than someone thin. I don't recommend anyone who is severely overweight take up running, yet. Walk alot until you burn a lot of excess off before trying to jog at your own pace. The phrase "train, don't strain" goes double here. Stretch! Stretch! Stretch! I cannot stress this enough, it doesn't matter if you don't like it or have never done it till now, your muscles and body will thank you for it. Something like trying to touch your toes, sit-ups with arms over chest to make it easier until your stomach muscles are strong, lunges, leg lifts, squats. A few minutes or so will get you going and you'll feel better. Get a partner to run also, get s dog, a cat, a fish, something; or take to trails and places you've never been close by. You may see some neat stuff when you do. You can do it! Good luck!

You can cop a door mounted chin up bar for $20, then do chin ups for biceps and pullups for back. Tricep dips are free. Body weight squats and one legged squats are free. You can grab a copy of Convict Conditioning online and follow that for progressions. Some if it is meme nonsense but it's fine for bodyweight only stuff.

>>6981 I know where you’re coming from, but I moved from Bulgaria to the US and got fat like a pig real fast. The only thing that’s keeping me from falling back to fatness is eating less and running 30 km a week. There’s corn syrup in everything here. Also there aren’t any regulations when it comes to food here. It’s really sad.
Cowboy · 2018-03-26 18:09
>>5679 Whatever you do, make sure to track your total calories (in and out) occasionally for like a week at a time. It won't be 100% accurate, but it will give you a rough idea of the effect of different foods and activities. I was very active, but chubby, for many years. Exercise isn't an excuse to eat in excess, and it was very easy for me to underestimate my intake and overestimate what my exercise was doing. It wasn't until I got my waiting under control that I actually shed some weight. Exercise is not enough.

>>7451 Calore counting works wonders. I use MyFitnessPal because it just werkz , but theres enough info out there such that you could easily make up a spreadsheet and input all of yiur in/out concerning calories if you wish to avoid proprietary software. If you want to be as accurate as possible, invest in a food scale and weigh your food before logging calories. Obviously this would only apply to food you make yourself, since you'd have to rely on whatever info you can get from any place you eat out at.

I worked out everyday for a month straight and then just started feeling extremely weak. I started then to get very unmotivated as I don't have any friends or go out anywhere. I kept asking myself, what is the point? I'm thinking about possibly giving it another go but maybe doing less than I was doing before. I mean I was doing three sets a day of hard work outs. This is coming from someone who never exercised or worked out in 32 years.

I have been doing quite a bit of exercising since college about ten years ago. Before that, any exericse was minor weight lifting and sit ups. In college, I was trying to get contracted into Army ROTC so my exercise routine was boosted up not just with physical training but also with treadmill running and heavier weight lifting. Even though I was screwed out of a contract despite having done extra volunteer work at ROTC and having helped with recruitment, I continued running and weight lifting. A few years ago, I started getting softer in my exercise routines and I was loosing endurance with speed and running. I did make up by visiting the pool each summer to swim though. Currently, most of my exercise is weight lifting using machines since I do not trust myself with dumbbells and running outside when the pool is unavailable. I intend to do treadmill running again and perhaps get involved with Historical European Martial Arts.
Nemissa · 2018-10-29 01:01
+1 to everyone who said exercise does wonders for your general mood and mental health I'd recommend doing Couch to 5k if you want to get into cardio. Don't go too fast on the running sections, just a jog is fine. Speed can come once you can jog for a long time consistently.
