I go through random periods where I lack motivation (like right now). The reason I think it's more than just laziness is because I cycle between being like that and being super efficient. Anyone else have this problem? Any idea what might cause it? I've tried a few things: >nofap Went over a month, but it just made me irritable, depressed and asocial >getting more sleep Has no effect >diet Again, no effect >working out This is probably the closest thing I've found to helping. Sometimes it seems to motivate me more, but it's very hit or miss. The worst thing about this is that I can only really do it effectively when I'm in a motivated mood. >meditating Same as working out. >making a list of things to do I get about three things in, get nothing done and then get distracted. Maybe I'm missing something? Maybe I just suck? These cycles are awful when you have things to do.

I have the same problem. Staying away from the computer helps a lot, but I can't keep that up for long. Also, doing something good first thing in the morning, like going for a run or a swim, set a nice precedent (especially if you force yourself to when you don't really feel like it).

What helps me is isolation. Social media, "news", and any form of instant communication are cut off. Media such as movies, shows, and games aren't allowed. Porn is always avoided since that makes me feel weak. Besides that, being consistent with my medication (suffer from dysthymia) and being cautious with what I say and think help a lot. Being cautious with what I say and think means to avoid lying and self-deception which is more difficult than it sounds. Journaling helps organize these thoughts. With your case, and I'm probably just projecting, it's likely laziness and not realizing you have a choice. Ever think "I just can't help it" or "I'm not in control" - Well, that's not true. It's simply that you value something more. For example, someone wanting to stop using porn. They might say "I can't help it" but they actually value porn more than their goal of stopping, and they make that choice. I always catch myself thinking somehow that I'm not in control, but I am. I'm the choice maker and what I fail at is my fault. What's causing it? You. You're the sole reason for your personal failures and anything you lack.

OP, you should read this book. Maybe what you need is a bunch of good habits. This book teaches how to achieve them and how to get rid of the bad ones. Maybe you have a lot of bad habits that are preventing you to do the things you want?

It's possible that you have a norepinephrine downregulation. In this case, modafinil or other norEp. agonist would help. Cold also induces norEp. spikes, so you might try cold baths. The combination of ketogenic diet, intermittent fasting, biphasic sleep, HIIT exercise and spaced repetition for learning seems to be the best practices now for good performance. for me also what helps is avoiding every kind of visual media. I try to fill the time was usually wasted watching youtube videos of movies and surfacing the net with books. even excessive consumption of fiction is harmful. what we need to learn is to try to be more at ease with idleness and contemplation. this idea that we should treat our minds with various entertainment snacks so that we can keep to be "productive" is harmful. you can not treat yourself as a piece of technology imo.

tldr >>5415 here is how it goes >Maybe I'm missing something? Maybe I just suck? yes we fuarrrking suck, most probably you were not trained in childhood to be that "i can do everything" person subconsiously and you find yourself asking questions like "why am i even doing this", "does this really interest me?" and most probably the answers are "not really i do it because this is what i'm supposed to do" and then you start to put time on other stuff, all those 'distractions' already mentioned on the replies, and then regretting it. A simple solution, pretend you care, tell yourself you are doing it because it has get done and thats it, make a schelude assign time for all the things that need to get done and forget why do you give or dont a soykaf about it, you dont have to give away movies, music or whatever, put it on the schedule, and when you are doing that task it's just that one, everything else is irrelevant. time was not enough to complete the task ?, stop right there you are burnt, go to sleep and continue the next day or go to next task, whatever applies. if you don't like this 'fake till you make it' or 'being a drone' approach you can try to find your 'passion' or any of those thing idealists seek or claim to live with. also stimulants and all that soykaf, yes they are nice but avoid this stupid idea that goes like "i need take magic pills everyday because i diagnosed myself with adhd", people trying to help you might just be trying to sell you something.

>>5415 I'm not who you were talking to, but I picked the book up, it's fascinating, very well written and for a 'self help' style book it reads really well I definitely feel that what I've learned thus far has been helpful.

make sure to shower every 1-2 days. feeling unclean can affect your confidence and your motivation
Nobody special · 2017-09-18 19:42
What do you get distracted about? Why do you start to feel less motivated?
