Here's a job for lainchan: Drown NSA in white noise. Send nonsense emails and include vast encrypted attachments for them to waste their time storing and attempting to decode. While we're at it, make a new kind of browser (an add-on perhaps?), that surfs random general interest pages while you're not there. Marketers get fuarrrked over too, as kind of a bonus.

There's makeinternetnoise.com but it's probably more directed at trackers than TLAs. Also it seems to make all its requests through google, which pretty quickly figures out what you're doing and blocks you apparently. But yeah you realize that (NSA listens to entire internet) ==> { (drown out NSA) == (drown out entire internet) } ... so, good luck with that ...

>>3901 I don't think this going to work. Atleast, untraced.

they can grow their storage capacity faster than we can generate new white noise. Not to mention they probably have fancy algorithms specifically designed for getting rid of white noise to cut down on storage requirements.

>>3909 Could one generate algorithms to disguise real data as white noise? loads of short password (9char ish) PGP emails but with random data contained - they never know if they have hit a wall or if it needs more work? then send real data in same way but now just something like a sequentially increased by prime number ceaser cypher - so at first glance real data will look like random data (like the noise beeing sent) but it will only be a simple cypher away from beeing read... ok not fool proof but could fuarrrk up any white noise filters...? dunno just throwing it out...

Im surprised at the negativity on this thread. I think opie's idea is pretty good. It wont foil the nsa but it will make it harder to understand what you as a single user are doing. It fuarrrks up every kind of metadata. I like the idea OPIE, sounds dopie. I'm not too good into net programming, but I'm thinking that it would be possible to make requests with a bash script.

Seems like a fine idea.

I've always thought that making a lot of whitenoise was a good way to mask one's browsing habits. You can't really trust any search engine so it's not a matter of using google or not. I believe a script can be made to search random, somewhat related topics at different times of the day. That could be a good start

marketers dont care if you're 'there' ,they get money bsaed on ad impressions . could add random referrers as i confusion tactic i guess? in the early 00s it was feasible to cost companies money by downloading all the resources on their website multiple times to cap their bandwidth, but that doesn't work anymore.
Leto Atreides I · 2017-07-11 04:36
>>3993 That's the point, marketers are not gonna pay if the impression are 90% automated, leading to less retribuition to host ads on your site
Ishikura "Tatsu" Tatsuhiko · 2017-07-11 19:08
>>3995 there would have to be a consensus that the impressions are 90 % automated.... which would take more than a few lainchanners.

Just use a good VPN. Most people only browse to a small number of sites so throwing out the noise would be simple enough for anyone with access to the metadata you generate. What you're talking about it doable but it is much, much more difficult to pull off correctly than you think. Plus, I don't know about you but I wouldn't want to risk browsing to a cheese pizza site due to some soykafty script. Again, just use a VPN.
