Impact of terrorism on online freedom

Judge Fang · 2017-06-04 10:06
With the recent terrorist attacks in England, there's bound to be some kind of push against online freedom. Quotes from https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/live/2017/jun/03/london-bridge-closed-after-serious-police-incident-live >Rudd says we can do so much more. The PM has announced an international forum to get internet companies to address radicalisation online. We want them to focus on two things, she says: taking down material that radicalises people online; and stopping people exploiting end-to-end encryption. May: >Second, we cannot give the terrorists safe space. But that is what the internet provides. What can we expect from this? The same as when Cameron wanted to ban encryption? Or will they actually do something? I'm not sure if this is the right board, mods feel free to move it somewhere more appropriate.

I don't know what will happen in the UK. Here in Sweden it seems like our government sigint (FRA) is perfectly happy that so many radicals are doing stuff out in the open (on Facebook, and Twitter I guess). This makes it easy for them to track and keep their eyes on what's going on instead of the baddies getting more sophisticated and using strong encryption etc. which might happen if there is strong crackdowns on their communications on the open net.
