Other than Lainchan, what are some other lesser known forums and imageboards you guys enjoy posting tech and cyberpunk stuff on?
Project 2501 · 2017-04-29 19:05
I hate to say it, but there are a couple subreddits that are decent.
>r/technology
>r/linux
>r/programming
There are others, of course. Reddit, aka normal person-chan, is like kicking dead whales down the beach for the most part, but there are decent subreddits that okay.
Agent Smith · 2017-04-29 19:52
Honestly none. They all vanished except this place. I'm just addicted to the imageboard format so I keep coming back here.

I like forum formats myself but imageboards are great too. Other than Lainchan, I really can't think of any other good cyberpunk areas.

>Reddit
Okay, yeah you're right, there are subreddits that have a good idea, but reddit is totally washed out with bots and corporate agendas. When was the last time there was an AMA by someone who WASN'T just doing the AMA to promote their works or products? fuarrrking never, that's when. I really can't take reddit seriously because of just how monetized it is now. It was way better 5+ years ago.
fsociety · 2017-04-29 21:18
I used to go on evilzone quite a lot. Hopefully they will comeback some day. Other than that i don't visit anywhere often.
I used to go to 8chan's /cyber/ before finding lainchan, too.

What do AMAs have to do with r/technology, linux and programming?

This looks very interesting, thanks lainon. The /privacy page is brilliant.
>>2016
I don't like to admit it, but when I'm bored out of my mind I go there too (instead of doing something more productive). But /r/linux is okay, I guess.
But still, I never particularly liked reddit because I think it suppresses unpopular opinions through the voting system.

I uses the AMA's as example of how monetized reddit is, that's all. Sorry for the confusion there.
Bob Arctor · 2017-04-29 21:51
Wirechan exists.
Mebious.co.uk is sort of like an imageboard.
Hiro Protagonist · 2017-04-29 21:57
Why are people ITT ashamed to admit they go to reddit? I don't go there because it's boring and that's as far as my feelings about it go. So why the stigma? This isn't 4chan here.

Because it's not a niche community like lainchan is. It's simply a normal-person site like a lainon pointed out earlier in this thead. Most of reddit consists of low effort/quality posts. Again, there's some good places on reddit but for me it's mostly a guilty pleasure.

Chans have always been riddles with antisocial hipsters and reddit is riddled with mainstream normal person uppity hipsters.
These two hipster types hate each other.
Agent Jones · 2017-04-29 22:19

People who posts on chan's hate being mainstream. It would also have something to do with the fact that most chan's have a strong dislike of reddit.

Even though 4chan is pretty mainstream now
Project 2501 · 2017-04-29 22:28

That's what makes the whole thing ironic.

4chan became soykaffest after 2007/2008.
Thats when most Old users left. You can see by this pic that some anons uphold the "we don't like being mainstream" appeal to the site.
4chan today is popular, but almost all of old users have left the site. Now kids are roaming that site to look for memorabilia of what that site once was.

Not really ironic, just shows your lack of understanding of situation, young fella

This is not a thread about 4chan or reddit, keep to the subject. If you go on reddit, facebook, 4chan or you post your weenie on /soc/, nobody gives a soykaf.
Nobody also gives a soykaf about how long you've been on 4chan for, this is an anonymous imageboard, you are nobody, you haven't been anywhere. Stop trying to wave your e-dick around and stick to the subject.

>this is an anonymous imageboard, you are nobody
this is so true
I like lainchan and its the only imageboard I visit after 4chan cancer, we had a rough month but I like how its being renovated. I just don't get people that wanted more boards and features, and now there is a thread about too many boards. That just shows that you can never please everyone, but as >599 said, you are nobody.
I do visit some subreddits for stuff I really like, some math rock groups on facebook, and even kotaku for esports and new indie game news.
Not everyone in lainchan is a programmer, no social life, no social media, basement dweller. Some of us just like the content here and do not live the high tech low life religiously.

Spacebattles has gotten pretty good since SV split off, more rules there through.
