Por some of your favorite /mu/sic, Lain.
Also, remember that life doesn't make sense and feeling offended over someone's preferences only makes you a little bitch in the eyes of the universe!

It's brazilian music. Quite chill, and the lyrics are very heartwarming.

my man. thoughts on sebadoh? i got to meet lou barlow once, was a cool experience.
local sadboi reporting in
among current favorites, i'd have to say, i unironically adore death grips
my choice of moniker is half a nod to maps.org, but predominantly a nod to a song by what is probably my top contender for favorite.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67R-Y6258qo (An Animated Description of Mr. Maps - The Books) The Books (RIP) were a cellist who did a lot of aleatoric composition, and a multi-instrumentalist & inventor who did taught college courses on sampling, who does all the non-cello music/singing. No one sounds like the Books. Their music is iconoclastic and original; it's build via aleatoric composition (with a nod to musique concrète), with extremely well done sampling and homebrew instruments... it's hard to describe, but very original. (slightly cyber song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pX9F5vyILU ) their lyrics are often really well written, and at times, profound. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHNArEfBKdc ) there's generally a visual component to most of their songs, which often show where their samples came from ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1irbhY_dgY ) I could go on about them, they're fascinating, and often quite humorous ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNKKcoyQPis )
i love post-punk and shoegaze, which are generally my go-to music for doin' cyberman thangs. ie, mogwai, explosions in the sky, gy!be, mbv, the depreciation guild (chiptune + shoegaze is comfy af), lilys, pinkshinyultrablast, etc etc - always happy to recommend more in this vein
been really into mitski lately. i've always loved sadboi music, but she's such a direct conduit to such a relateable form of sadness, in a way that elliott smith (who dominated years of my life) never did. I don't know where to start, so here's one that hits close to home ('cept I'm the dog here.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gxLrDXTLJw
really into ajj (formerly andrew jackson jihad.) their singer/songwriter, sean, is such a loving and compassionate person who cares so much, and uses music as an outlet ("I hate whiny fuarrrking songs like this, but I can't afford a therapist. Sorry guys... here's a solo."
they're super folk punk, but have been steadily getting more sonically experimental and diverse as they grow.
here's a good summarizing intro:

>that drop
>those lyrics
>my heart
more indicative example of their sound, as well as their humor

and i am super head over hells over the mountain goats
honorable mentions: modest mouse, dr dog, iron & wine, all major players at some part of my life

> Drone/shoegaze/hiphop
Do you know Hooverphonic and Bowery Electric, they both have a sort of fusion of triphop and dreampop/shoegaze.
> Hooverphonic - The New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular
> TripHop / Shoegaze / Dreampop
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sv9Ka1kaxNg
This one has some ambient bits, some poppier more portishead-esque bits and some more direct shoegaze aswell. Lots of variety. You could describe them as Portishead by way of Slowdive.
> Bowery Electric - Beat
> TripHop / Shoegaze / Drone?

This one is more sparse and droney.

I hope you know Sweet Trip - Velocity:Design:Comfort already. A definite must-listen if you are into shoegaze or idm.
It's a sort of mix of glitchy textures, lush idm kinda mood with some elements of shoegaze and dreampop interspersed.

i love many of these bands (have seen both the growlers, tame impalla and maccy before; going back to see mac in a few months.)
along this line, might i recommend some of my favorites in this vein:
>shannon and the clams
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZskGSEGJdo
(fun fact ^ the back of my LSD-addled head makes an appearance several times in this video)
a three-piece punky take on do-wop, with the titular shannon having a killer voice, king lollipop shreds (and can wail himself), and, uh, a drummer.
cool folks, shannon is a much beloved oakland native (i've seen her at bars & lived with her ex for a few months.)
>thee oh sees
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9-X9UJ7hW4
(same, though not on LSD at this point)
another fuarrrking AMAZING band, originally from SF. hugely prolific, and one of the best live performances today - i mean, seriously check out this fuarrrking video
will have more a later time; hold up

Can't say favorite, but a few days ago I found out about dungeon synth. It's medieval fantasy inspired music that's composed using only a few instruments, usually using lo-fi synthesized versions of traditional orchestra tools.
Close parallels can be made to chamber music as limited number of instruments is used, sometimes even single instrument compositions. Reverberation is heavily applied giving etheral qualities. Samples giving impressions of fire, chains and woods strengthen the experience.
More recent instrumentations even borrow from early 90s videogame OSTs. Videogames that featured medieval fantasy settings and had MIDI music composed for them, such as Daggerfall, Hexen fit extremely closely.
The first album linked gives the whole notion of the etheral sound.
Second album listed is more similar to videogame OSTs, to a point where it seems there's use of default Windows midi soundfont.
