/hum/ is not lain

Chani · 2021-01-21 23:09
Requesting the deletion of /hum/, and the banning of political & related threads from /r/ and general political threads from every board. Keep Lainchan, Lainchan.
Ishikura "Tatsu" Tatsuhiko · 2021-01-21 23:16
I agree. If you want politics, there are plenty of other chans. Although I guess not many Lains would agree with this.
Ivan Horvat · 2021-01-21 23:19
/hum/ is a backdoor for cancer to this site
Agent Richard Gill · 2021-01-21 23:30
Agreed. Let's purge all things even remotely associated to undesirable content, like >>>/hum/32548, >>>/hum/16151, >>>/hum/36459, >>/hum/35979, >>>/hum/38028, >>>/hum/38361, >>>/hum/34899, >>>/hum/35761, or >>>/hum/18649.

Unnamed · 2021-01-21 23:39
I can agree with a ban on politics threads, but I find that /hum/ has plenty of good content - there's just been some really soykaf threads recently.
The Oracle · 2021-01-21 23:55
>>9673 The spice content isn't what gets it killed, but how the spice is presented. People who don't know this are newfrens.

>>9675 ban on politics EXCEPT when the political discussion pertains to restricting electronic freedom. We need to be able to discuss news relating to encryption bans, both attempted and otherwise, etc. etc. etc. Too bad we cannot just make a gentleman's agreement that I won't be a natsoc here if you guys won't be marxists, commies, liberals, etc. -- Even IF the subject matter is related to some arbitrary morals one may or may not have.
fsociety · 2021-01-22 00:03
>>9677 Reason why in OP I specified removal of political threads completely from /r/ but only removal of general political threads from every other board. We should still be able to discuss political issues when they pertain to a specific boards niche, but this would allow for more specific discussion as opposed to "commies/nazis/libs/etc bad". /hum/ should just be removed wholesale as its being used for political soykaf as well and likely beyond saving since it'll just keep inviting its current users.
J.C. Denton · 2021-01-22 00:25
>>9677 Yeah, I say politics threads as in threads specifically for general politics - it's very important that we can still discuss politics when it pertains to privacy and freedoms.

Switch · 2021-01-22 12:25
/hum/ is lain, but currently it works like a containment chamber I am all for the ban on politics /hum/ has a place on Lainchan, but it is completely misunderstood and new users can't adapt well
The Phantom Phreak · 2021-01-22 13:39
>We should still be able to discuss political issues when they pertain to a specific boards niche, but this would allow for more specific discussion as opposed to "commies/nazis/libs/etc bad". I think that we might allow general threads about ideologies, but be really strict about banning posts that might devolve into ``muh ideology good, yuh ideology bad.'' Also, if one political ideology is becoming more actively discussed than many, it should be curbed, lest it leads to persons believing or thinking too much about that ideology becoming a majority. We want to foster diversity of thought, so we should curb any possibility of one type of thought taking over. >/hum/ is lain, but currently it works like a containment chamber Isn't /r/ the containment chamber? >>9681 >Your objection to my using language in ways that is unnecessarily difficult for some persons to understand is honestly foolish. Based.
Hitomi · 2021-01-22 15:29
Can we try to implement stronger moderation, some more concrete rules and see what happens? Seems wasteful to wipe a board that has potential.
Lord Nikon · 2021-01-22 16:19
>>9670 I agree with you completely. The main problem is people think of places like /hum/ as the politics of humanity than anything relevant to it or cycles of time. It might be helpful to try and explain or give some hints as to what the board is about more or less.
Linda Lee · 2021-01-22 16:23
>>9677 Absolutely. But i think the rules need to be enforced and trying to tell anons why they are derezzed so they get the point that general politics is not appreciated on the sites overall. I do not mind politics in niche instances like one lainon mentioned but when it's most of the boards or it is thinly veiled into these subjects then yes it becomes bad overall to inject their views.
Sipho Nkosi · 2021-01-25 01:01
>>9686 >Isn't /r/ the containment chamber? No? It's moderated like normal. See >>>/r/18480 for an eeniee meenied example.

>>9697 I am going to not visit /hum/ probably for the best. As it just is bad right now. Just the same old buzzwords, the same talking points, the same enforcement of normalglitterboyry of politics and Social media.
Fred Nurk · 2021-02-02 03:22
>>9669 Make up your fuarrrking mind as to what this website is even supposed to be already. Is it a niche little tech imageboard for conceited /g/ rapefugees? Is it the depressive-yet-non-robot side of r9k sprinkled with additional reddit pseudness? Is it another wannabe 8kun for "intellectual" halfchan exiles that inevitably cannibalize their failed utopia from obsessive gatekeeping? Lainchan's whole "culture" is just a hodgepodge of often incompatible ideas about what it doesn't want to be. It supposedly encourages elaborate discussions but will refuse to upload your post if it's too long. It's obsessed with enforcing an etiquette by making you tiptoe around a whole unwritten dictionary of forbidden words, yet falls flat in stamping out the low level of discourse associated with those words. Its solution is to categorically eliminate certain topics, yet calling out normalf.ags for ruining every topic they touch is against the rules. This place will end up in the same pile of dead no-name imageboards as every other extinct chan splinter precisely because of posters like you; so quick to call for the banning of this and that because it reminds you of the community you ran away from, yet too dumb to understand what is a symptom and what is the cause.
William Holtzer · 2021-02-02 22:50
If not delete /hum/ at least move political posts that people post in /r/ to /hum/. As a rule of thumb, if the thread is certain to start a flamewar (outside of /λ/ related topics) then move it to pol, err, /hum/. It's easy to tell them apart.
HELIOS · 2021-02-03 07:47
what's the deal with so many boards anyway, you could split them all into tech and non-tech anyway?
Unspecified · 2021-02-18 22:30
>>9669 All I see of /hum/ are floods of heated posts. It looks like the moderation would need way more resources than it currently has. I don't like moderation and I'm sure there are good posts but that board just doesn't work now.
BloodCat · 2021-03-05 06:29
/hum/ should be cleared and reinstated as specifically about philosophy and NOT politics. Political threads are cancer. I am ashamed to say that I get sucked in to them too often. The vent and tnev threads are important.
Armitage · 2021-03-05 08:32
>>9850 >The vent and tnev threads are important. I'd say those threads are far worse than any political threads I've seen on Lainchan and I've been here when /civ/ was a thing. Whiny /r9k/ losers are annoying.

Tequila · 2021-05-17 13:25
Or... Guys... You know... We could just IP ban them... By this time, I'm sure the mods figured out the faker-soykafty-posters from the lainer-real-discussers. We are being raided 24/7 by these idiots anyways. And you don't need proof when you have instinct. You taste-feel-hear-sense some soykafy bullsoykaf thread, just straight up ban 'em. Politics, gone. Modern posting, gone. Datamining, gone. Bam Bam Bam Bam Bam Bam Bam Bam Bam Bam!!! Purge, e v e r y t h i n g . We don't believe in liberty. We don't believe in authority. Hiro Protagonist · 2021-05-19 19:54
I'm unsure if removing /hum/ is the solution, but I will say that the content of this imageboard appears to have shifted significantly since the 8chan shutdown, and not for the better.
Hong, Guil Dong · 2021-05-20 01:59
yeah let's cut the site traffic from 4 new posts per day to 1. At that stage why do we even need a website? Let's just send letters and be panpals instead. You, me and all 2.5 other lains.

I think keeping hum as a containment board of sorts is for the best; every board, forum and the like has always had one and assists in funneling out things that clearly violate the rules and attracts users who don't have a grasp of board culture.
HELIOS · 2021-08-02 19:39
the idea alone of a cointainment board is ridiculous. there are no containment boards that work. they are a foot in the door, they are lighthouses.
Jens Hansen · 2021-08-03 13:14
>>10455 Truth. Every containment board I've seen always gets populated with trolls and soykaf stirrers and eventually turn into drama filled cesspools.
Yu-ichi · 2021-08-05 19:35
>>9669 Agreed. Or at least, if we have to get to a compromise, autosage purely political posts. That way they can exist but they likely won't clog up /mega/ and more technical/on topic discussions will be favored. >>10455 I agree. It actually encourages an influx of users that many times don't actually have anything to contribute, but instead of lurking until they are more familiar with board culture or having something actually worth posting, they make low effort/low quality posts, and sometimes that spills to other boards.
Nell · 2021-08-24 19:42

>>10510 >>9669 I agree in principle, but until others take the lead I will continue to enjoy messing around halfheartedly effortposting barely developed ideas until the space to do so has been wiped from the site. Just learning that calling the mods a bunch of fake and gay pansies might not actually fly here. I understand why my dopamine receptors have been cockblocked, but... That said, I am interested in learning to better fit into the culture here (don't have to announce I'm new, eh?) and making more positive contributions. You really aren't playing games with trying to keep things pure, which is admirable. I took a bullet from one of the automated commissars for too much cheek in one of the perpetual AGP/Trans threads (is this content welcome here or not?). Exhibit A: My offending post__________ ----------------------------------------------------- ok, that didn't work. Filter won't allow it on /q/ even. Do I have to go back?
Apoc · 2021-09-02 23:35
>>10533 Basically, on surveying /hum/ most of it looks like cancer (r9k-lite). I like to eat it sometimes, tasty. I'm not exactly sure how quality content can be encouraged here. Browsing the catalogue, I see the following threads which actually don't look to be all that terrible, and only these threads: >>>/hum/46625 >>>/hum/45786 -> comprehensive first post, regardless of if it makes you cringe or not >>>/hum/39220 >>>/hum/45474 >>>/hum/45427 >>>/hum/47817 -> poor example. Low effort post on a good topic >>>/hum/46172 -> see, we can find some diamonds in the rough! >>>/hum/47914 >>>/hum/43910 >>>/hum/41407 >>>/hum/28166 -> this I believe is the type of edge case the long term users disdain. I omitted some good ones, may have included some trash, no accounting for taste and my personal autism power-level. There seems to be an identity crisis in the board. Many threads seem like solicitations for psychotherapy, some are poor quality political posts, others touch politics but seem like they'd be ok if post quality held up. Others don't seem to match the "humanity" description at all. More still are what people term "schizo posts", although they seem at least to be earnest attempts at fruitful discussion, and probably the hardest subjective call to make. A schizopost often has passion and willingness to really dive deep into a topic. Whether that is perceived as a good thing or as a rabbit-hole of incoherent invitations to a political bar brawl is open to interpretation. My feelings are more permissive there. It does seem to be a shame that certain posters are at war with mods, because I've been filtered for blending flippancy with honest conversation and would like sometimes to feel like I can tease things a little, and it looks like with the present conflicts ongoing, that we've lost out on that in the crossfire.
Vasya Pupkin · 2021-11-21 16:02
Why don't you just delete /hum/? Really, it adds nothing to this site, it reads like /used to be called new but you've spam filtered it so I can't say it/ lite or a subreddit for autistic teenagers depending on the thread, it's a boring mess of non-lain topics, untreated mental illness, and the more plebeian varieties of racist gibberish Most of the posters on it that start the soykafty threads don't have the brain power to wipe their arse properly never mind ban evade so what's the holdup, you don't really believe in containment boards, do you?
Unnamed · 2021-11-21 18:46
There's literal anime trannies now, who think that "that's transphobic" is a logical argument, and there's euphoric Christians thinking that calling them degenerates is going to ever change their mind. There's also smooth-brained American politics, about circumstances which 95% if the worlds population cares nothing about. One liner opening posts which don't convey any message at all, with crap dead-air photos...

SEL doesn't tell you who to vote for if you should be a commie, but it does bring up questions relevant to political philosophy. It doesn't give you clear answers, but that's a strength of the show.
