The internet was built by geeks and nerds, who are overwhelmingly part of at least one of the above groups and more often two or all three, which makes the internet OUR PROPERTY. What right do normalnigger scum have to come in and demand that we censor ourselves on their account in a medium we fuarrrking built? They deserve to be the ones getting derezzed off of every platform and hunted down and killed by vigilantes. Studies have definitively shown that women only care about looks, so any advantage you might have had even in attempting to simp for a 30-something h4g will be nullified because you won't get paid any more for making and maintaining every gadget people use on a daily basis to have modern society at all. The discussion about the rightful ownership of the internet is intriguing, but it's getting away from the main point, which is the interests of geeks as a distinct class unto themselves. Not just the internet but every major piece of infrastructure modern society is built on is rightfully ours, from the power grid to every car on the road to the road itself. Since this thread might get locked soon and it's ostensibly about geek culture being co-opted by outsiders, we should talk about geek culture in an effort to maybe save this thread and get some use out of it. Basically let's be TV Tropes for a few days. The OP is arguing for many views that mainstream America finds appalling, and if you look at various geek media, you'll find that much of it is against those same views. While there are segments of geek culture that have views more or less in keeping with the OP, most notably anime and weeb vidya, it's a tough sell to argue that geeks in general are or were always this way. Even Magneto, who the OP apparently views as an idol and is basically the poster boy for marginalized people who've had enough of society's bullshit, was never intended to be seen as a hero. His views were always portrayed as sympathetic but ultimately in the wrong. The same can be said about many similar anti-villain characters, although if you read /v/'s threads about Villains Who Did Nothing Wrong, Japanese games and Japanese media in general seem to have many more of these characters and to portray them more favorably, and they also seem to more often reflect the values advocated for by the OP. The OP's sentiments are less about gamers or geeks than weebs or incels. Certainly there is considerable overlap between all these groups, but how much of the total geek community OP's group represents is in doubt. I'd expect those sympathetic to mainstream American views to downplay how many of these people there are, while OP's camp would like to make itself out to be a silent (or rather, silenced) majority. The true answer is probably somewhere in between these portrayals, but with the rise of the incels and men's tendency to underreport their lack of sexual success, I find it easy to believe that there are far more people like this than the mainstream is comfortable with. We live in an era where people are angry and radicalizing and views like OP's may hold much appeal to someone looking for a radical view. Also, while we're at it, OP has also claimed that progress in many fields has come to a halt due to political correctness, feminists and prohibition of men being with adolescent girls making men unmotivated to work. I question how much of this is because of those things and how much is just coming to the end of Moore's Law. That said, if we're going to talk about people trying to co-opt geek culture for political purposes we should at least be even-handed about it and talk about the times when the right wing has done this as well.
