REPORT BUGS HERE #2

Kashire · 2020-07-30 16:24
As >>1005 hit post max, here is #2. Please report all bugs here. Please search the thread before posting, if someone has already posted a bug you have found, then please reply to their post. What is a bug ? A bug is something that should work but doesn't. A bug is not a missing feature, the feature has to be actually be present but its implementation has to be not working correctly. No matter what the bug is, we will always want to know the same information: What did you try to do? What steps did you take to do that? What did you expect to happen? What happened instead? One or more of those may seem stupid or self-explanatory to you, but it’s extremely helpful to us if you take the time to write it all out. Don’t assume we know anything! Simply saying that something “doesn’t work” isn’t very helpful; spell it out for us as simply and clearly as possible. Any supporting information you can think to add will be appreciated. Attach anything you think might be helpful. This includes screenshots with the wrong behavior or problem circled using your favourite image editor. See http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html for more information on how to make a good bug report. If the bug you have found is in the lainchan software itself, and you feel comfortable using Github, then you can make a Github issue https://github.com/lainchan/lainchan/issues/new.

>>8210 Regarding /hum/ being hidden this probably a bug in https://github.com/lainchan/lainchan/blob/master/js/boardlist-alias.js#L94 , given it only hides the boards in the People category, it should also hide the boards in the STEM category and Misc Category. It will be fixed later today.

I keep getting a message about "this post looks automated. Post discarded" at random. It was in humanities that I noticed this issue when trying to give advice on a "going to be homeless soon thread." Do you know how to make a post look less automated? I am unable to post in most boards for the last few weeks because of the error "this post looks automated. The following was rejected in /λ/ along with attached image. Is this ever going to be addressed? >"Internet service providers used to be local businesses and only served a few towns in the region. These days if you want to start your own ISP for your town you're have to jump through a bunch if hoops and red tape designed to drive up the startup cost, as well as deal with whatever dominant megacorp is in the area constantly trying to bully/threaten/blackmail you into giving up. If you want internet without supporting a megacorp you can always pipe usenet services through packet radio. Be aware that you'll have rather slow connections so an CLI browser like Links or maybe Surf is a good idea."
Appleman1234 · 2021-02-26 16:04
>>9819 It should be fixed. >>9831 I would love to address it, but I can not do so without more information. From the information you have provided, all I know is that you are tripping the antispam mechanism . /* * Introduction to Tinyboard's spam filter: * * In simple terms, whenever a posting form on a page is generated (which happens whenever a * post is made), Tinyboard will add a random amount of hidden, obscure fields to it to * confuse bots and upset hackers. These fields and their respective obscure values are * validated upon posting with a 160-bit "hash". That hash can only be used as many times * as you specify; otherwise, flooding bots could just keep reusing the same hash. * Once a new set of inputs (and the hash) are generated, old hashes for the same thread * and board are set to expire. Because you have to reload the page to get the new set * of inputs and hash, if they expire too quickly and more than one person is viewing the * page at a given time, Tinyboard would return false positives (depending on how long the * user sits on the page before posting). If your imageboard is quite fast/popular, set * $config['spam']['hidden_inputs_max_pass'] and $config['spam']['hidden_inputs_expire'] to * something higher to avoid false positives. * * See also: http://tinyboard.org/docs/?p=Your_request_looks_automated * */ Either your browser doesn't support unicode and this a browser issue, or you are not refreshing posts before you post in them or something else is going on.

I tried posting a response in humanities during a debate about "extremism on imageboards" and kept getting a message accusing my post of being automated while using Omnichan on my Android phone. I tried to post the same message using the regular website with the DuckDuckGo browser on my phone only to get a message saying "go away spammer." I finally got to post the message using my laptop at home using the same IP address and the same basic message with no big modifications except a couple of grammar corrections. It worked that time. It appears the site is having trouble differentiating an honest post from spammers and automated software.

fuarrrking hell remove these soykaf features, I'm talking about the "write a longer post" and "body is too shorty or empty" messages. I wanted to tell >>>/inter/4492 that there's >>>/r/23463 but I keep getting these error messages. Besides there are posts which could be replied to with simply "yes/no", not to mention that this kills the point of /test/ because I can't write shorter posts. =/
Frank Garza · 2021-03-06 14:17
>>9872 fwiw I really like the idea of people writing long political posts getting an error that forces them to start again from scratch, since it would act as more of a deterrent than if they got the opportunity to make minor edits to try to get the post through.

Case · 2021-06-01 00:17
Would also like to report that the "Post" button in the posting form is visually broken (or rather very ugly) as well. The contrast is so low, it's not visible unless you really knew where to look. Desktop PC, poison theme, Firefox, no theming addons active. Pic related.
The Phantom Phreak · 2021-06-01 00:18
>>10111 Pic didn't post for some reason. Anyway, this is the broken hover effect in the poison theme. It must be defaulting to the default CSS or something. They were well elaborated and illustrated with examples, in fact the word 'nigger' was used to elaborate in just such a fashion. This rule therefore doesn't apply. In sum, while I do not have the posts in front of me at this time to evaluate line by line against all the rules, I can say with reasonable confidence that they were entierly in harmony with the rules as posted. They were not innane namecalling posts, and they included no elements of namecalling, ad hominem arguments, or any other overly objectionable qualities that I can discern. They were themselves elaborating opinions and were of the same quality as many discussion posts in many threads on this site. Therefore my assumption is that it has to be a bug, in likely one of these areas: >a bug in moderation; a moderator incorrectly applied the rules. >a bug in the listed rules; the posted rules do not correspond to the actual rules. >a bug in the word filter; the word filter was meant to remove the word 'nigger', like it removes several other words. Having failed a moderator made a ham-fisted repair and removed a few otherwise unobjectionable posts. It is also possible but I think unlikely that I've misinterpreted the rules. But if I have I am greatly confused, I've made many posts including recently that are very similar to the ones removed from this thread (with the difference of the word 'nigger', hence my fixation with it for the purposes of this bug report), and these have not been flagged as in violation of any rules, nor removed. Thank you for your attention to this problem, ~a lainon
Appleman1234 · 2022-03-12 21:19
>>10915 I deleted your Rule 1, Rule 3 and Rule 4 violating posts, after 7 reports via the platform and 3 complaints via IRC. It isn't a bug, your posts were rule breaking, not just because you used a racial slur in bad faith, but because the parts of your posts other than the slur usage failed to elaborate on your opinion and circumstance and consisted of multiple expressions of insult to various types or stereotypes of people in bad faith.
Drano · 2022-03-12 21:54
>>10916 So, to be clear, the word 'nigger' is just as permissible here as i.e. the word 'f*ggot', (written thus), or 'cabbage'. The complaint is only (if I recall the posts correctly...) against the suggestion that someone would not want to date a 'fat nigger [female]', without explaining and elaborating that position, and against the post in reply thereto which may have implicitly agreed that that position was reasonable (unless that is, if memory serves, op were himself a 'user'). Is this correct ? If we had asked the poster who made the initial assertion of the unattractiveness of 'fat nigger[s]' to elaborate his position (and received such elaboration, made in good faith), would that have proactively solved this problem, with the result that you wouldn't have needed to intervene ? Thank you kindly for explaining this to me. I have not often gotten posts removed here and I simply saw very little difference between my post here removed and the plenty of other posts I've made, many themselves featuring slurs (made usually in good faith I might add, but you'd have to take my word for it I suppose). I can only see one post of mine which was destroyed (out of two destroyed on that thread), and am a bit concerned you may have taken me for another, err, 'user' shall we say, who also is here on Tor.

I tried uploading a .pdf file to https://lainchan.org/%CE%94/res/8273 It was "Evasion" from Crimethinc, it's 5.72mb. The previous book uploaded fine, but all I got from the second upload was a blank post, then subsequently a "flood detected, file discarded" message every time I try again. Bug report: TLS/SSL is forced on HTTP connections as well as on the irc. HTTP access should be allowed instead of forcing users to use HTTPS as TLS/SSL is a relatively new protocol and software support is still pretty bad. The security of TLS is also controversial, so it would be better to keep TLS as optional instead of mandatory. (which is the default of most gud websites)

The quick report form (don't know the proper term for it) no longer appears when I check a post's checkbox. Steps to recreate: 1. Check the checkbox to the left of a post/threads name/subject. 2. Notice no report or deletion prompt appears. Expected behavior is that the quick report/delete form would appear in the post. Workaround: report posts via the classic form at the bottom of the thread. Every time I try to post I get "flood detected, post discarded". What is the criteria for flood detection? Multiple posts? Too many links? I know Appleman does not believe in transparency, to the extent that he thought it was funny to take the board links away, but this is the kind of frustration that will cause the most well-intentioned poster to give up and go elsewhere.

I was trying to create an OP with this picture on lambda, and I got an error message that I shoulda screencapped, but it said "Target and source board are the same.", which is fuarrrking weird because that only occurs in a mod_move function in lainchan, and I was trying to start a new thread and i'm not a mod.

But refreshing browser tabs before posting is one way to fix the issue. Yes there are rate limits on posting all boards except lambda allow a new thread each 8 minutes, lambda allows a new thread each 4 hours. Yes we have word lists that result in post not being made., these exist to prevent spam, other language enhancers allow posts to be made but improve the language choice used in them. As far as I know tor and vpn can post images. Other nationalities are not second class citizens here, but making dedicated non english threads outside of layer or other hidden boards is generally a cause for Rule 4 violation, if there isn't sufficient english in order for moderators to moderate it. Additionally making regional specific threads whilst pretending that the regional issue is a global issue is often considered a Rule 4 violation due to lack of clarification / specficity or lack of elaboration.
