Fediverse VS Twitter
Lain Iwakura · 2020-04-06 11:53
What do you think to have #Lainchan on the federated social networks (Mastodon, Pleroma, Misskey, ...) instead of Twitter?
Unnamed · 2020-04-06 12:19
Ideally lainchan shouldn't have either, they are both trash. This should be on >>>/q/ instead

I agree it would be better for Lainchan to have a Fediverse presence rather than Twitter, which is only there for historical reasons. A big issue is part of the utility is using it when Lainchan is down, so hosting it seems to go against this, but choosing an instance is a mess. I don't like Pleroma because it requires JavaScript to use.

Not even a question. Lain should delete twitter and use fediverse or alternate microblog.

remember that federation isn't the same as decentralised, it's just many centralised things. Only marginally better system. Since the model is 'if you don't like it here move to another instance then' it's essentially a free pass for soykafty moderation which never improves, there's nothing you can do if you're unfairly derezzed. I've had friends derezzed from supposedly 'free speech' pro instances just because the owner didn't like them. And there's no one to complain to or incentive for change because 'just move bro'.

I concur. Also 'just make your own site and talk to no one bro' happens.

Federation is like the email service, you have different servers not only Gmail: so you have not only Twitter but many federated social servers and one day Twitter will be federated to the Fediverse.

I assume everyone on lainchan is already familiar what pleroma/gnusocial/mastadon are. The critique I have regarding that article is that the author doesn't mention that owners of instances can blacklist other instances. For example if you're using an instance where they parade free speech, the homo from mastadon.social could blacklist that instance. Meaning that you can't interact with anyone from mastadon.social and vise versa. Something like that happened to me when I decided to change instances and realized that I can't interact with certain people because people who run these instances are homosexuals who enjoy being dramatic.

You are right this is a big problem and you have not it using a classic email service for example.

one could argue that the fediverse is free software and thus better but if look closer you will notice that it is just a bunch of small secluded communities.
Everyone has ban filters that don't allow for one to see another restricting information. Sure it is decentralized but it is also disconnected.

Do you have the #Twitter source-code? (free and open is always better)
