Hi, I'm a high school student expected to graduate with high grades in Alberta, Canada. I am interested in engineering, medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy. Is it bad idea to first do an engineering undergrad, then, dependent on GPA and interest, switch to medicine, dentistry, or pharmacy? My former orthodontist was first an engineer, then later went into dentistry. After reading on forums I have seen that this path is not uncommon. The reason why I think this is a good path is because if I am unable to make it in medicine, dentistry or pharmacy I have a engineering degree and a good career that I am satisfied with. As opposed to completing a chemistry degree and having an option between being a high school teacher and working in a meth lab. I quite good at programming in C and Python. I have also volunteered at my local hospital. I am torn between these two career paths. I could also be planning too far ahead because I don't know how well my grades will be in university. >pic unrelated

Having a plan B is always a good idea. I don't know how the education system works in your country (in my country we don't have this undergrad system) but if your ok with ending as some kind of engineer then why not have this safety net? Also I think that people with a chemistry degree work in the industry in different factories so it's not only teaching or meth lab. >pic unrelated Nice bottle. Seriously I entered this thread only because of this img.
