Regarding 4chan
Demeere · 2025-04-15 06:32
I've been on this site for what I'm pretty sure is around a decade. I think everyone has been getting really tired of how lax mods have been with racism and generally dickishness.
But since 4chan is down, even momentarily, more jackasses are going to flood here. Politely, I am requesting if the mods can be a bit more banhappy, as I'm honest to god tired of how much worse the site has gotten over the years as it actually became mainstream. I think we all miss old lain. Not to be whiny. But please.
Pic unrelated.
William Holtzer · 2025-04-15 16:19
4chan is of course down, and a lot of people are going to altchans. I have a very strong feeling that people are going to be staying here and exacerbating the problem.
BloodCat · 2025-04-15 16:23

Can they even find it? And if they do, will they even be able to tolerate the site culture? At worst, I think people will come here, try to troll, get bored and leave. That or moderation is going to have to kick into high gear to ban some people.
Undisclosed · 2025-04-15 16:34
I don't see why we should assume the people coming here will be especially worse than some of the dedicated posters. every day i see posts by a handful of creeps who don't give a fuarrrk about post quality or the culture of the site (in fact they would much prefer to replace it with their own). they incessantly brew soykaf and honestly any activity that isn't them is imo a positive.

There's something rather sus about 4chan being taken down now. Not that it's been anything resembling an anti establishment site since the 00's but it was one of the few communities that still prioritized anonymity and letting people contribute without registering. Plus, it wasn't owned by the cartel of American tech corps that has now practically merged with the American government. Maybe it's just paranoia but I have my suspicions.
Lunch · 2025-04-15 22:17
I am one such dreaded normal and i've never been a problem for this board. I have not written the worst posts i've seen here and i don't flood, anyway. Don't you think various altchans could use a little more posting?

This is, for me, like frequenting a new board. First you lurk to get the culture and then you maybe start posting after a while. Frogposters with their fried dopamine receptors will find this place far too slow.
There's like a point where you reach a critical mass of those people and a board becomes unusable because it's too fast.

i swear this same post has already happened and been answered like three times, but i'll assume good faith
lainchan is about:
- loving lain
- assuming good faith
- posting slow
- giving sources if necessary/possible
generally people talk about (in order from common to less common):
- programming
- technology
- philosophy
- drugs (think MXE not weed)
- esoteric/occult soykaf
starting a new thread on a topic that an existing thread could contain is highly frowned upon, since threads here can live for 4 years+ and killing an old one is a sad thing, so please use the catalog. Similarly, OP posts are expected to be broad in subject, specific in intent, and well thought out (e.g: if you have a minor tech question, ask in the tech question general, don't burn a whole thread for it- if you DO start a thread on a family of tech questions, give lots of context- what you know, what you don't, what you've tried, provide some code, etc.)
Unnamed · 2025-04-16 15:33
>>13261
Then lurk. Go read. Notice the threads stretching over months and internalize the idea that you could spend 14 days polishing your post without missing a beat in the discussion. You don't have to post right now. Share your findings with us in this thread sometimes before the end of October.

There's no banner that tells us you're new, as long as you assimilate the culture and don't bring over cancer we won't even notice. i think lainon was making a case for most 4c users coming here, if you take a look at the mega there's some low effort spam already, and we always had tourists trying to bring over and acting like they own the place.
good users can certainly stay. it's not that hard, just forget you're from 4chan - and pretend you're from the real world and you're visiting a cool website about an esoteric 1996 anime about technology - and i think many users will already feel better by doing that.
i wish big websites - 4c was a big website, look at the average daily user count - didn't exist so that we got more quality thanks to a decentralized internet.
Neo · 2025-04-16 16:04
Can we get a rules clarification on whether random generals for media are allowed? (e.g: this thread >>/inter/8362)
I think banning random-media-generals would seriously help to combat 4chan flooding and infestation. Also these sorts of generals tend to be full of low-effort niche stuff that nobody cares about. Non-media generals are find as they tend to have useful stuff sometimes (e.g: bump while high is the only thread keeping /drug/ alive most of the time, and something like a philosophy general on /hum/ might be useful at times).
>I think everyone has been getting really tired of how lax mods have been with racism and generally dickishness.
rudeness = bad and unlainlike
scientific, well sourced ""racism"" is based on facts and lainpilled. e.g: that time we had a deep dive thread on IQ/genetics. I still want a thread where we share techniques for mining public human genome data for SNPs associated with behavioral outputs

I literally used to open lain at 5 am on the dot, every damn day, like my daily newspaper. In the past few years, I actually find myself frustrated. I agree, low effort posting is annoying. well sourced being cherry picking from fringe journals, obsolete sources and outright sophistry. No, we don't need another thread where you morons dump your propaganda and fling insults at anyone who tries to engage meaningfully with your logically feeble arguments. I find it pretty hilarious that you put racism in air quotes, like you have to keep pretending to be respectable to normal users despite the whole lainpilled meme.

I'm not going to mod post because I don't want people to misunderstand, but to be clear: I'm Kashire, yes the obnoxious "please fire that mod" one. Right now, I'm not speaking for the staff, I'm just speaking from my point of view as a member of the community, because I, too, have been here since nearly the beginning.
>I think everyone has been getting really tired of how lax mods have been with racism and generally dickishness.
Two issues here. First thing I want to make clear is that: Racism isn't inherently against the rules. HOWEVER, being a silly cunt and an asshole for no reason is. See:
>Rule 3. Always argue in good faith and avoid using personal attacks.
>Rule 4. You should always elaborate on your opinions rather than just spilling the soykaf.
Does this have overlap most of the time? Yes. Should you still report it if you think it's breaking a rule? Yes, please do.
The second thing. The entire staff has been extremely busy for awhile now. While I'm not going to share anyone elses' personal life, but I will share a little of my own: I've had some serious stuff going on in my life that has taken me away from my ability to be here 16+ hours a day like I used to. A lot of people know in IRC what's going on, but the quick of it is this: Life is very demanding. The best I can do right now is what I've been doing: delete cp and spam, and kill any very obvious bad actor posts. I'll probably bring this up during AGM if Appleman or someone doesn't beat me to it, if anyone wants to have further discussion on it just be around it: I've also been looking over the codebase and trying to get to work on a few things that I've put off for a long time that I think will help a little bit with it, at least with speeding up getting things dealt with.
I really want Lainchan to remain of a higher quality than one generally expects of an imageboard. It's very important to me and I think a lot of everyone who has been here for as long as they have. I know there's a lot of stupid memes about the way things are, but it's been pretty good for the most part and we've all known each other for a very long time, even indirectly. I know we have more people visiting because of recent events, but that doesn't mean we have to lose ourselves and our culture. Everything should end up okay, afterall: a lot of people just want a place to discuss ideas anonymously.

New lainchan users, and anyone at all for that matter, would benefit from learning about the XY problem. The XY problem is asking about your attempted solution rather than your actual problem. This leads to enormous amounts of wasted time and energy, both on the part of people asking for help, and on the part of those providing help.
>User wants to do X.
>User doesn't know how to do X, but thinks they can fumble their way to a solution if they can just manage to do Y.
>User doesn't know how to do Y either.
>User asks for help with Y.
>Others try to help user with Y, but are confused because Y seems like a strange problem to want to solve.
>After much interaction and wasted time, it finally becomes clear that the user really wants help with X, and that Y wasn't even a suitable solution for X.
They would also benefit from learning how to ask smart questions. http://www.catb.org/esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

the evidence for racial differences is overwhelming and only can be refuted by censorship and suppression. Everyone is fine with this when you have two types of squirrels from different regions who look and behave a bit differently, or birds or what have you. Humans are the same way, that's the natural, correct, and obvious notion.

dumbass, there is NO evidence for racial differences. Genetics shows conclusively there are more differences WITHIN a “racial” population than between “races”. Race is a completely unsupportable pseudo-scientific concept created in the 1600s to justify slave hierarchies.
shut up and fuarrrk off
Nemissa · 2025-04-17 09:20
>>13191
NTA, and I don't really like the idea of people arguing about this stuff in an unrelated thread, but we've made leaps and bounds in research with genetics proving that the so called "pseudoscience" within racialism is a lot more inline with reality than previously though in the 1960s.
Although, even if we excluded that information, we already knew that Rh- mothers and Rh+ fathers basically create a baby that the mother recognizes as a threat and will send antibodies to kill the baby. This is why medicine has to inject things into the mother that basically makes the mother vulnerable until she is able to have the child. What does this have to do with race? Well, Rh+ trends significantly higher in Africans and Asians while Rh- trends way lower in Europeans.
There's also things like lactose tolerance, blood type distribution, diseases (Sickle cell, Cystic Fibrosis, Tay-Sachs, to name a few.), metabolic reaction [from no reaction to drugs, to hyper sensitivity for other racial groups] -- Back on the diseases (and genes), immune variability is a huge one, europeans tend to have a higher risk of arthritis because of HLA genes and cytokine gene polymorphism (regarding immunity/inflamation), as well as even a difference in gut biome.
Now a lot of people like to play this off as "oh it's just the region they were in that made these impacts" but hear me out, that means there are still differences. Of course, to suggest all of these many, many differences and changes as a form of evolution actually contradicts the claims of evolution and Darwin's theories. So, either you (and other people) have some new theory with some evidence that disproves Darwin's Evolution... Or you're being an idealogue that cannot adapt to new information. Now I'm willing to give people the benefit of the doubt and suggest that people are going to mostly be reactionary, but given enough time: You can adapt to newer information.
But at the end of the day, does this mean people should treat people like soykaf for it?
No, not really. It's a stupid reason to be an asshole or treat people like soykaf. But to be dishonest and anti-science like this is utterly insane, especially for a fad ideological shift that has clearly been reaching its logical conclusion for quite some time.
You can do better, Lainon. I believe in you.

Hi guys I'd like to introduce myself and maybe join your community, but if you tell me to fuarrrk off I will. I'm a relative old fart now of 47, and started posting on 4chan around spring of 2005 ironically and was there pretty much every day since though for the last decade or more often wondered why.
4chan changed so much over the years, it's downfall in my opinion started with the stormfront raids. Which were hotly contested since the Habbo raids as semi funny as they were always drew people in. Silly kids from Habbo weren't a big deal, but the stormfront ones clearly saw the potential from open anonymous discussion.

Continuing...
As bad as the last few years were I realize I was still sort of white knighting for the old 4chan, believing it could be a positive place again. As bad as it got, I could just never quite abandon it, that it wasn't just a place for whipping up a froth of hate and rage. And there were still decent pockets, the outdoors board had a semi thriving community of people exchanging gardening tips and stories for example.
So I find myself in an odd position. It's good 4chan died, it really needed to. The odd few pockets of positivity were nothing compared to the tornado of hate and purposeful misinformation. But at the same time I feel a loss. As badbas it got, 4chan felt like the last remnants of the old internet. Reddit has never appealed, the other 4chan like places I've checked out since seem more on the track of trolling and anger. Meanwhile I very much like the attitude I have seen here looking around and Lain was/is one of my favorite animes of all time as well as one of the last I watched.
So that's that. I mostly post about gardening, me and my wife are both into permaculture and nature stuff and art and cooking. I would like to hang out here and post. But as I say, if any of this puts you off I've no interest in trying to shoehorn myself somewhere I'm not wanted.
Pic related again, I don't do regular art so much anymore. But this is a fossil rock I dissolved with acid then re-crystalized the old fossils ontop of it. I don't know if it's exactly art, but it's filled that niche for me.

Weighing in on this a little. I think it's obvious there are certain differences between people who come from lineages from different parts of the world. Clearly people who have eaten dairy as a staple part of their diet for centuries will typically have a higher lactose tolerance than ones who haven't. Just like indigenous people in Africa don't burn as easily in bright sun as do someone from Irish background for example.
That's common sense and being a pretty left leaning person who knows mostly other left leaning and anti-racist people something I have never heard anyone dispute. It's also not surprising that people from very different lineages can run into some issues if they have children together because of things like lactose intolerance from one side etc.
Where it shifts from descriptions like "most people from Europe have pale skin, most people from Africa have darker skin" to what gets called racism is when those traits are assigned values. Black people are bad because they are different, white people are better because they can chug a gallon of milk and digest it easily etc. It's when it turns to "white people are more evolved and therefore better because they can drink milk" that it shifts into what gets called racism.

i'm looking at the state of things in other imageboards and i think we have it pretty sweet right now. some had to make containment boards and even resort to cloudflare, I think people are somewhat assimilating well in here, and me and other anons are trying to tell people around to actually think before posting and general rules. I'd say that besides the cp and spam we're one of the best IBs around and you should thank yourself for that. people complaining is expected but it's mostly because we all care so much about it, so you just clarifying you guys are busy in meatspace hopefully made OP a little more realistic about things.

How does that make any sense? Is this some kind of Jewish law style trick where the rabbis uphold a parents right to kill their kids but bump up a bunch of procedural rules to make child murder impossible? I don’t see the logic in this. Racist posters are the guys dragging down post quality on this site. They make posting here uncomfy and derail thread after thread. Is edgy racial humor fine? Sure but that’s not actual racism. Pretty sure calling someone a nigger as a racial insult is being an asshole for no reason.

It's the fact that you're trying to be anti-racist, but you're only defending and playing favorites for black people.
On an imageboard with no voting system, only rhetoric, contradictions are easily challenged. But if a mod decides to control the narrative by banning and censoring one side of the argument, then that imageboard will surely die.
Jeremiah Prime · 2025-04-17 15:10

It's so weird seeing it now, because the old 4chan was on the surface really racist, because everyone who didn't agree which Power Ranger was hotter was called a retard nigger jew. But that's because an insult like retard nigger jew felt like surrealist comedy. It's like how flat earth jokes used to be seen as jokes because it was obvious to any sane person that it's not. Then thar became a real discussion people started trying to have and it was fuarrrking surreal. I feel the same way about racism. There felt like there was a brief time when it was acknowledged we're all different but those differences highlight our similarities and can be tools to make us all better. Now that feels like it's the joke and fuarrrk it is like kicking dead whales down the beach.

What argument? Whenever race gets discussed it descends into mindless soykafflinging and right wingers brewing soykaf and spamming out threads with insults directed at anyone who disagrees with them and whining about insensitivity.
Tired of this freedom to say whatever bullshit. Like imageboards are places for sincere conversations.
>>13202
Pretty sure randomly throwing around insults in the old way and edgy racial jokes aren’t racist. I’m not sure why people have such a hard time distinguishing between silly retarded humor and pushing actual racist beliefs and attacking people based on race. Both of these are grouped together as racism when they aren’t.
I’m tired of casual racists soykafting up boards with their rants about blacks, Jews, refugees, Mexicans or spamming stuff up with race science eugenics propaganda, bogus debates to push their narratives and derailing threads to talk about their retarded crap. I just wanna discuss tech, anime, and cyb stuff not deal with this constant bullshit.

For the record… not the anon who posted. Lurked here for a few years now.
There’s no such thing as “races” who hate whites . There ARE collectives within races, and cultural trends within races which hold attitudes that are damaging towards people of European/white descent. There ARE collectives within races that do not. I support forms of ethically guided eugenics for all races, i support loving and appreciating your heritage and the right to defend it. If you stoop to the level of mass generalizations you are no better than those who do it to yours so you have no right to claim any form of superiority and there is little to no benefit to the idea of a “superior” race regardless. There IS regional advantages due to inheritable characteristics and there IS reason for people to localize to areas where they can survive most effectively.

it's not the first time something like this has happened, although I get the sense that this time it's different, like a real blow was struck, an important thread was severed

Nope. Never has, never will. It's a fundamental defect in the concept of a centralized chan-like imageboard. People are pseudo-Anon to each other, not to the staff or anyone they give access to. To the staff all of your posts across all threads on all boards could be viewed as one single thread. You could watch in realtime, jump in and nudge wherever you want, hook a botswarm into that info, train an AI on your output to send bots that mirror you, whatever. There's quite literally nothing good about it. The entire thing was one big trick. And if the feds or staff want to screw with you, it's just a matter of using parallel construction. ie you obtain information illegally, and then you work backwards build a compelling case for how you came about it legally.
As far as I'm concerned 4chan was intended as a parallel structure for the DARPA Lifelog projects like Facebook. Controlled pressure release valve, and you can observe and contrast the behavior of individuals across both.

I can have a pleasant interaction with one, but I know that if they had their way they would seek to take advantage of me. It's better to be safe and use pattern recognition, because they have an ingroup preference and I don't.

Yes that's the point I was trying to make, if anything they were anti-racist since the but of the joke was how silly racism is. It's like making jokes about flat-earthers that used to be very common. But when the world goes to a point where a joke about the earth being flat and the responses are from people who want to seriously try and debate the topic it changes jokes. That's what it feels like now, even something obviously silly like "dang, white men can't jump!" will lead to tantrums and long rants.

4chan was 100% a government project (even if moot actually was just a normal guy who started it for fun initially). It was the source of so many counter-cultural memes there's no way it would have been allowed to stay up if they didn't want it up for some reason. There were probably hundreds or thousands of posts per day that could have been used as an excuse to take down the site for some legal reason.
I know what you mean about it not being genuinely anti-establishment, but it was still the only popular place where you could post basically any opinion and it would be seen, and whatever you think about the deterioration of the culture of the site in recent years, many of the users who remained there WERE genuinely anti-establishment despite the wider site culture.
What was the purpose? A controlled pressure valve for malcontents? An information gathering project? An experiment in the psi/paranormal effects of mass consciousness / meme growth. Probably all of this and more. The fact that they chose to destroy the only remaining popular place for malcontents I think signals we are reaching the end of the game, whatever the game is, or at least entering an entirely new phase.
You can't shut down something like 4chan without understanding that the people there will find another outlet for the energy that was going there. I SURE they are watching for where this energy goes and trying to shape it for purposes we can only guess at.

As a kid I was excited for cybernetic augmentations a la shadowrun, ect, to break into the market en masse. As a man I've seen what they do with cars and computers and cell-phones (intentionally insecure, built to fail, phones home every hour, requires a monthly subscription for basic features, ect) and frankly the thought of sticking that sort of technology in my body sounds suicidal. "One striking reaction to stimulation was pleasure and sexual arousal. A 36-year-old female epileptic, whose behavior was normally “quite proper,” responded to stimulation by “giggling and making funny comments” and flirting with researchers. A sullen 11-year-old epileptic boy became chatty and friendly when stimulated. “Hey! You can keep me here longer when you give me these,” he exclaimed. He also announced, “I’d like to be a girl.”"
Neuralink is a red herring imo. By the 70's a lot of the bidirectional communication with the brain stuff could be done wirelessly. Modern day implants would be either grown in the body or inserted as modified parasites / bacteria.
Also I've never owned a cell phone, live in a rural area, and yet I can go 4 months with no internet connection and on returning google already knows everything I've seen and thought. I don't even get why it needs to be so invasive, what's wrong with a completely noninvasive, surface-level EEG
there's a treatment for depression (I think it might still be considered experimental), forget what it's called but it's meant to get you to move your brain activity towards more desirable patterns
basically they sit you in front of a TV, hooked up to an EEG, and have you watch a movie
if the readings on the EEG are what the therapist wants them to look like, the movie plays, and if they're bad it pauses
but basically, if they can get enough information through that, it's not such a big leap to think that somebody could train their brain to emit signals to, say, move a mouse, or type on a brain-keyboard

>but are you sure you weren't just near somebody else who does have a phone, and they got you by voice print or something? even a conversation with a shopkeeper might've been enough
Yep, I've controlled for just about everything. It seems to be largely visual. If I look at an object, say a rusted wheel rim, think of it in a certain way, and count the lugs on it, I'll get home and there will be a recommendation for removing rust from a wheel rim. Thumbnail is the exact angle I was looking from, same number of lugs, same everything. To have inferred this would have required having seen anf characterized that vehicle elsewhere, logged it, detected or inferred that I was there via prior patterns and statistical magic, perhaps using a distant wi-fi router (no phones or people around, one wi-fi router maybe 100 meters away), generated a bunch of predictions of what I would think, dropped them all in the youtube recommended. Yet that isn't what happened, the only thing car related was the wheels, so perhaps it could triangulate somehow and infer that I was looking down.
I don't know, that's just one example. On another occasion I wrote "7" on the back of my hand, then next to it going the other way "303". A youtube video I had on paused itself (an actual pause, not a buffering error) at exactly 7:33.
The list goes on. Some years ago I tested whether I even needed to use search, and instead imagined a video thumbnail, refreshed a few times, and then it would show up. I considered infrasound (subvocalization)...
Eh, the thing is it's not limited to the internet either. If I'm focused on the moon in a particular way, which I associate with blue roses, a blue rose will appear somewhere in my life in the next few days. People will also ay things that reflect my recent thoughts, hyperspecific things.
I'm getting off track. Point is, initially like most people, I thought it was technological. I came up with ideas like microorganisms living on the surface of the eye and duplicating inputs, nanotech embedded in the optic nerve, something hooked into the cerebellum (controls language, body position, grammar, syntax, math) or some other area, EEG pickup, maybe some exotic quantum sync method where brain chunks are like oscillators so you can sync and entrain them remotely by mimicking their activity pattern closely enough. And the list goes on.
Anyway, that's it. Shit's weird and it definitely happens. All that matters to me is that when I point out the obvious, I don't have to hear "no".
Hitomi · 2025-04-19 13:54

Also what you're describing is EEG guided biofeedback. The type I used like 15 years ago was a racing game. Your brain activity controlled the speed and cornering.

just be careful you're not driving yourself crazy via confirmation bias

while it very clearly was monitored. things like BBC posting stopping when the iron dome was breached and so on. military briefings leaking of some b 00 mer generals having a green cartoon frog on the vga projector and trying to make sense of it all. media loving it as a scapegoat, posting "memes" they made themselves and then write another article about it. the recent attempt at consensus shaping about the ukraine conflict and make people support the war machine with nazi anime waifus. the examples just go on.
the thing is, while they did all this, the users who were wise to it watched them in turn. and to this, someone high up enough might have become wise as well.
I unironically believe that the covid narrative fell apart at least partially due to it having been identified as a nothing burger back in 2019 and all those later revelations like the lab leak hypothesis have already been known or strongly suspected to be true many years beforehand in their respective general threads.
I've seen clearly organized flooding and demoralization posting increase more and more to the point the site was barely usable and yet it couldn't really, not reliably at least take control of the behavioral patterns of the people who went there.
the powers involved are smart and capable, that is evident. but they just never seem to "get it". while effective mass control was already well established before goebbels, you have people who will keep seeing through the fake veneers. who will always remain disagreeable. and those types did congregate in places like this. at some point they might have realized that it's not really worth it, you know? and take down the without doubt most influential platform where that type of person would form these spontaneously emerging think tanks.
while monitoring the most difficult to manipulate people is interesting from an intelligence perspective, a collective conscious forming that's counter to the status quo however is a threat. but that's just my schizoid two cents on it

As far as I can tell the core metrics reality uses are engagement and believeability. If you could get to a point where a pile of gold falling from the sky was believeable and you cou;d accept it, without diminishing engagement, then it would occur. Engagement just means it watches your pattern of attention carefully and then creates more of whatever you react to the most, good bad or indifferent. There are some other things, but that's loosely how I'd systematize it.
The difficulty is in separating creation and precognition. Like there are certain things I can manifest reliably and easily, one is work in the form of odd jobs, the other is running into people. It is very rare I see anyone I know, or have known, while out and about. However if I say the magic words, "I should...." and imagine it, feel it, decide that it will occur. Then within a week I'll run into that person, somewhere. It may have been 10 years. But it'll happen. SO the question becomes, if that person no longer existed, or was very far away, would I have been capable of even trying to manifest it? Was the manifestation actually precognitive, I had agreed, or was otherwise preparing, to encounter them, which is why they'd been on my mind? Likewise with thinking of someone and then them calling you a few minutes later. I was thinking about getting work, while I was playing Penumbra. Lot of fixing things, crawling around in vents. Next day someone calls me, the ventilation system in her basement fell apart. So I go into this dark dirt floor basement and am fixing all these vents, then fixing the hot water heater. Straight out of Penumbra. But while the intention to get work is obvious, where did the impulse to replay Penumbra come from? I have a loose idea, and it makes sense given I'd been thinking of roses and Amnesia, and the same studio made Penumbra... so I was thinking of the symbology. Last example, I watched in one sitting the show "RIN: The daughters of mnemosyne". Wasn't what I expected, lot of oddly familiar stuff. Anyway, ends with Yggdrasil and this egg thing. Then I watch the 4th Matrix right after, the ship is called the Mnemosyne. Well sun comes up, I'm reflecting on Lethe and Mnemosyne and the elements of this show that seemed plucked out of my life, and I get a call. Someone has this giant egg shaped rock in their garden, and it fell over. So I go and set it up again. There too, desire for work, matching function occurs, I go and act out whatever I mentally (and in fact feelingly, which is only partly emotional) engaged with.
It's ahrd to say. Tests are ongoing but my overall impression, like lifetime impression, is that it's not strictly precognition. Or being offered a few branches and unconsciously choosing one. It's happening in the background all the time and shapes what you encounter both in realtime, and especially during sleep. The matching function as I call it is also quite tragic, but that's another story. I'm also pretty sure I've popped people and places into being, or something like that. It may be that not everyone is born, sometimes a role is thought up and a soul is willing to just jump in and fill it. Many possibilities.

Google doesn't need to monitor your network traffic directly, though. if you use their DNS which is a default and likely being used as a chromium default too then the page can be independently scraped for new content and used to modify your algorithm as well.
Another possibility: your ISP or router is doing deep packet inspection. so use different networks and see what that changes.

maybe. but it would take an additional assumption that USAID started paying for 4chan - would this be under moot, or hiro? since 4chan was sold in 2015, what might that say about the culture shift? it would also be a singular instance of something we don't have other examples of.
the "site got too expensive to take care of" narrative has many other examples and tracks with what we know.
>we (as a society) lost a place where anything could be discussed, including crucial counter narrative that then ends up trickling down to normal people at large
i agree it is a travesty we no longer have 4chan. but its good to remember that mods are never impartial, this also goes for lainchan, soyjak, and it was true of 8chan, too.

which culture shift exactly? it's always been in flux.
and feds being involved somehow was evident. fed posting was even proven by wikileaks. to what extent that involvement went, I do not know. but they definitely would have access to everyone's IP. the whole soykafwood escapade proved that too.
and aside from the obvious crypto scam and other honeypot ads and the occasional tripcoder it's difficult to believe how handling all that traffic was in any way financially viable nor that hiromoot would do all this out of the good of his heart.
I already explained why this place was so uniquely interesting. while sure, most people there were idiots, bots and mossad posters, it had an unusually high concentration of high awareness type of people. someone you can't truly understand if you don't work on that same level as well, even if you're quite intelligent. there's stages to awareness that is not the exact same as intelligence. this is why >90% of manufactured memes are "cringe". hence why I said that those intelligence think tanks are good. very good even, but they still just don't quite get it.
like, it is true that a lie can travel the world while the truth is still tying its shoes. but a forest of bullshit can be destroyed by a single match striking the right words, correctly packaged, in days. and I've seen it happen multiple times.
and believe me the people capable of this sort of "meme magic" are still there but now I wonder where they will go now.
I just hope that some good will come out of this and 4chan was dead wood by this point which needed to be shed anyway. time will tell

literally who? people don't even know what this soyjak is based on. it was fun to egg on this type of people that were caricatured by it but I haven't seen it catch on just as much as pepe did. and I'm aware of things like the soy booru. I have the impression at least that many do recognize it as the brain rot that it has become at this point. since it doesn't quite tap into the same thing, you know?
and while technically cypunk media, lawnmower man wasn't anywhere near as culturally impactful as say the first (only) matrix movie there was. at least I didn't see stephen king try to dilute the message with a bunch of increasingly worse sequels. but that's just my views on it

I'm talking about every significant culture shift that happened around that time. gamergate, the fappening. 8chan, which changed hands not long after. all happened in the same year timespan. curious, don't you think?
>fed posting was even proven by wikileaks
I'll believe you on this but I'm very curious to know how exactly feds post. I've seen the forum spies post but I'd like something more substantial. do you have a link?
>to what extent that involvement went, I do not know.
that's the important part. proving feds post is different from proving they control the entire site in different fashions.
>and aside from the obvious crypto scam and other honeypot ads and the occasional tripcoder it's difficult to believe how handling all that traffic was in any way financially viable nor that hiromoot would do all this out of the good of his heart.
there's ways - you could sell IP data and marketing trends, you could also adopt laxer ad rules, or you could use it as an asset to make property ownership / business easier in another country or tax shelter. youtube was running at a loss for google and probably still is for tax shelter purposes.
>hiromoot would do all of this out of the good of his heart
new users might not be as familiar with him or his legacy. but why do you think he was running 2chan?
sorry, I don't mean to be so interrogative - it sounds from your tone that you're maybe stressed out by all this. it is like kicking dead whales down the beach lain. I miss 4chan too.

in history nothing would happen for a long time but then there's days where everything happens all at once. I don't see evidence for the things you mentioned to have been orchestrated by a single entity even if there might be a somewhat causal relationship between them
>to know how exactly feds post
just feds trying to blend in with the board culture and trying out narratives and ideas. there was some documents floating around with board screenshots having a (you) on them. by now yeah, the authenticity might be questionable but I see a plausible reason why this might be true. like I've said, things from 4chan trickle down. and from an information warfare perspective it simply makes strategic sense to have a "base in that territory" so to speak
>proving feds post is different from proving they control the entire site
true and I liked to wonder about this occasionally. the least I'm certain of is that they try some sort of consensus shaping and do some IP logging. they might even provide some funds for it which is in line with your next point. but it is clear to me that 4chan was a very unique place, and arguably one of the most interesting ones remaining from the old web if you could see past all the racial slurs, contrarianism for the sake of it and general idiocy (and with time all the attempts at demoralization). and seeing on what the us gov would spend money on, this would be lesser of a surprise if it came out they did. be it just to keep taps on individuals.
>but why do you think he was running 2chan?
fair, and it's a meme to hate on OP, mods and hiromoot, however he still does need to have it be profitable. be it just for the site's sake.
>that you're maybe stressed out by all this
not that much really. and the idea of it being dead wood being one. I haven't lurked that place much in recent times because it just kept getting worse (I know it was never good but there's always a worse) but it is regretful that it isn't available any more, be it just for its history. sites come and go, even if there was something special buried in all the piles of crap.
news would often break there first for instance and I still do believe that it even influenced public perception like during the covid craze, be it indirectly by functioning as a public think tank and processing (and discovering) available information. those early /chg/s were where this site was at its best, with much of what had been discussed then eventually being picked up by youtubers and then the broader public. and being able to control this would be of obvious advantage to anyone seeking to have a hand in public perception, don't you think?

With no particular degree of competence. They are 30-40 year old G-Men and LinkedIn Karens trying to blend into communities of otaku nerds and politically radicalized people.
I'm reminded of how printouts of 8kun threads that got used in a court case still had the (you)'s in them that showed the glowniggers were the ones trying to entrap people in that thread they were showing.

this is called a just-so story, btw. it doesn't really provide answers. but you're right - there's no evidence that they're being done by the same actor, and the burden of truth is that they were. i bring it up only because its an equivalent claim to the one made about USAID.

agree. if you're familiar with the tool I believe it was known as BUGS bunny, but I can't find any information on it now - i first heard about it on encyclopedia dramatica being used by /p0l/ and stormfront. I can't find documentation of it anymore, except for references in different copypasta about a "stolen spambot". I would love to know more about this, because I think they are now trying to use it on lainchan too.
>OP is a user

i can vaguely remember what 4chan was like in 2008. /b/ was fun before gamergate. s4s was fun before covid. or whenever it got ruined by /p#l/tards, I can't remember what year exactly. /lit/ used to be one of my favorites too. and /x/. before the christf#gs ruined them.

its not so much that its hearsay (it is, but it could still be correct) but that it contains very little content and raises more questions than it answers. how are the "tranny therapists" being hired, is there some organization that exclusively rents out trannies to do emotional labor for you? are they cheap?

an other example that I saw was after successfully managing to split p 0 l into an uhg and a chug general, when israel got attacked there was an attempt at making people side with it by framing it as "the whites (israelis) vs the brown hordes (palestinians and iran)" but this seems to have been quickly dropped (for reasons that should be obvious) and instead people started posting "bibi monkes". but the tranny therapist things, I don't think they meant a literal transvestite renting agency but if you ever worked at a place with some sort of more involved HR or hired shrink (who is often very progressive leaning) then you know what I think they meant. basically just some corpo woo to try to make you keep spinning the mouse wheel.

cant say i have. and i used to contract with federal agencies, funnily enough, though not involved with psyops or anything like that. im curious who would be behind this in particular. CIA? FBI? DHS? SS? if it was army guys it would be DoD but im not sure what part of the DoD is involved with that - im aware this exists from cursory google search and its a student positioning meaning it almost makes sense that someone in that position would be on 4chan. https://www.defense.gov/About/Office-of-the-Secretary-of-Defense/Public-Affairs/ . still, it would be nice to see an org chart and know what exactly that board room meeting is because it seems a little made up.
>what about the 2016 maga generals? do you believe they influenced the election outcome to some degree?
I do, they were important to the guerilla campaign strategies of the trump administration, wouldn't be surprised if many of those people worked directly on the campaign itself.
>or the smaller time shenanigans like it's ok to be white or the ok sign stuff?
i remember this stuff but ngl i was never a huge fan of /p#l/ and saw it as ruining the site. i think the culture war stuff got into your guys brains a little too much and you attacked a lot of people you didn't need to because you thought you were fighting feds or SJWs or w/e else. not every board needs to be ideologically aligned with you, if people couldn't talk about degeneracy on 4chan, postmodernism on /lit/ neopagan urban legend soykaf on /x/, gay pron, etc it wouldn't be fun anymore.
basically what i think is that the feds had reason to be involved since 2008 and FBI fridays, or lulzsec lol. or op chanology, some scientologists are feds too. theres even a point when 4chan mysteriously went down for a day immediately after some major op occurred. good times.
> feds having their tools to data collect posts
so i think what the tool basically does is build up a queue of copypasta / bait posts with modifiable sections to evade spam filters that it rotates between them, and it systematically creates bait threads on a rotation. I've seen an increase in this kind of content on /hum/ in the last several months and its made me very suspicious. I don't have anything to prove it with.
There's a post that first circulated on slashdot (if u remember that site, lol) that kept being censored and someone eventually put it up on cryptome which is a good resource on crypto soykaf if you're familiar. It's called The Gentleperson's Guide To Forum Spies and it gives a series of resources on undermining organizations and shifting consensus online.
https://cryptome.org/2012/07/gent-forum-spies.htm
Something I've noticed about this is that these are techniques anyone can use, including you. Of course, you might not want to if you don't seem like a fed, but if you think you're fighting a culture war wherein you need to Defeat Woke - well, if its your mortal enemy, then nothing is off the table, right?

not sure as what you see me and it's not of any importance either due to the ephemeral nature of image boards. I sure do have my biases for what cultures I dislike or even consider an existential threat or not but I was speaking mostly from an observer's perspective, something akin to maybe an online anthropologist or just someone fascinated by mass opinion formation and the like. and the only way to see that is to actually go and lurk these places and whether you like them or not, especially p 0 l, while certainly has become the zaniest and most infamous one, taking the crown away from /b/ which in turn transformed into nothing more than a gooner pit. despite being a designated containment board, it quickly turned into the one with the greatest influence on the external world. you may have preferred lit because it appealed to your hobbies but p 0 l was where for each 100 soykafposts there was 1 of effort and for 100 of those, 1 somehow seeped into the broader internet and real world. and you could sometimes watch this happening almost in real time. do you get what I mean?
>I've seen an increase in this kind of content on /hum/ in the last several months and its made me very suspicious. I don't have anything to prove it with.
no, I've seen it plenty. p 0 l was especially bad. the bait posts were clearly highly repetitive, designed to get replies, often with very relevant stuff so there must've been a mechanism to quickly feed it a tweet and it would spit out another "x is right, you know?" or a "you did this, chuds" and I must confess, I often did bite and went in to check on the replies.

He's been known to send "twitter revenue" to e girls on twitter he's flirting with, and if they don't return his advanced he cuts them off.
I wouldn't doubt he would be petty enough to take down the site

What, why? Led lined cases are the only way. Aluminum foil is actually an antenna extender. I still use it on radios and such if I have nothing better to get good reception. On the flip side, them noticing a void in reception through led lined stuffs, makes your u a target in a different sense.

Media generals that are not organic , should at least have a decent OP and supporting reply threads with actual elaboration about the format of the discussion and example discussion, both questions and answers about the media being discussion. The nicher the general and the less supporting example discussion , the more likely forced generals will be warned or deleted.

It’s a trend I’ve noticed in general, ever since 2015 4channers have gotten increasingly more self-serious with delusions of importance, even though the site has largely become more and more irrelevant for internet culture as a whole. The culture has shifted from this whole “99% of everything posted here is bullshit and 4chan is like kicking dead whales down the beach” self-deprecating culture to one where posters think they posses some deep esoteric knowledge that normal people will never be able to comprehend because they post on a website made to have waifu wars on.
