Blocking Tor exit nodes was a large mistake and should be reverted immediately.

Obtaining any form of privacy on the Web largely depends on using Tor and subsequently the Tor Browser as otherwise fingerprinting will track you, and thus blocking connections from Tor (or more specifically, Tor exit nodes as this site doesn't have an onion mirror; please add :]) is contributing to the attempted digital annhilation of privacy by blocking the last veil of private Web access. I'm assuming this was done primarily to prevent spammers, but blocking Tor exit nodes will only stop the least dedicated; a slightly more dedicated spammer would simply use a VPN to bypass this. What this has done is prevent what I assume many legitimate users from posting to the site and stopped a very small minority of spammers. Besides, blocking IP addresses in any form is a lousy way of anti spam (unless you intend on blocking VPN addresses as well); a proper captcha is far better suited. I personally recommend a captcha like what the "Dread" onion forum uses; it doesn't require any Javascript and appears to work.

>>10491 No we are not running an onion mirror for reasons already discussed, and Tor exit nodes were blocked a temporary measure to prevent spam and have been unblocked. We are not going to deploy a captcha at this point in time. We already did the development work for implementing https://www.phpcaptcha.org/ but never activated it.

>>10493 >No we are not running an onion mirror for reasons already discussed Could you link to the discussion about this? I am curious.

Not all the discussion is in a linkable format, because some of it happened in audio or IRC as part of the various AGMs (from 2017,2018,2019 onwards), and I haven't managed to upload or transcribe all of it, due to the verbal DDOS attempts by the mumble formerly known as the /pol/ mumble to sabotage our annual general meeting by verbally spamming nonsense that delays transcription. However some of the original conversation is avaliable from https://lainchan.org/static/LainchanAGMTranscript.txt from 2017, see also https://lainchan.org/news.html There was answer in a previous /q/ thread but it has been since bumped off the board. It will take me some time to summarize, all the back and forth discussion for why we are not running an onion mirror at this time, but I will attempt to do so at a later date in this thread.
