Better banners

banner images are part of the charm of imageboards, but they need to be subtle and simple. in-jokes and IRC screencaps that you just think are the bee's knees should really go. below, I've attached an example of a good banner and a bad one.

Before you complain that I just hate IRC or something like that, this one is an okay one. Maybe still not banner-worthy. I'd post more examples of good ones but most of them are .gifs, and in true 90's webdev fashion I can't save them directly since the image source is a link to a php script.

Here's a good one that's a static image. You see, clean and simple. No memes or mention of usernames or anything else that would detract from the site's ambiance.

I can't imagine any adult wanting to have some of this stuff on their site, let alone thinking that it's funny.

Btw, if it wasn't already obvious, the reason why you'd want to have higher quality banners is that low quality banners repel high quality contributors. Who wants to contribute to something that looks like it's being run by people less mature/wise than themselves?

Everyone shares lain, deus ex, neuromancer, etc. But lainchan is the OG, some of these stupid esoteric banners are what separates this place at this point. That and that in the past it was something. Depart from that and all you're left with is boring 16 year olds talking about how they don't fit in and just love lain.
