For us laptop users with limited screen space it would be great if there was an option to have the bottom bar "unstickied", perhaps even the top bar too.

I'm pretty sure the idea is that only one person has shown an interest in this feature so there isn't a whole lot of incentive to implement it
ultimately whoever wants to write a commit to the github can do so

that would be pretty nice actually. but seeing that we still have the double report bug and the reporting 504 error i doubt we'll have this done anytime soon.
If you know how go ahead and make\share a greasemonkey script. or start a thread on >>>/lam/ about it. maybe you could add it to lainchanX

this is actually really simple, with css alone:
.top,
.bottom {
position: relative !important;
}
#thread {
padding-top: 0;
}
body {
padding-bottom: 0;
}
apply it with stylish or whatever aftermarket css extension you like.
