Also, what the traffic metrics? Is it going down?
I sure hope so

Spite over what? That makes no sense. What even were the pictures? They don't allow snarky meme pictures, especially on /λ/ and especially when accompanied by snarky greentext posts.
Questionable deletions? Maybe, but more likely it was smug meme soykaf and jumping to the conclusion that spite had anything to do with it is absurd.

why not delete posts or ban users entirely with warnings instead of deleting pictures?
It just seems absurd that someone would remove pictures with no warning or attention given to those that post

Nah, the post makes something of a point. It's a kind of a bait point and I won't comment on if I think it's a good point but it's a point. Removing the smug images means people are less likely to take it personally and respond with flames. It's not ideal, ideal would be people not making their points snarkily, but it does help.

Micro managing this chan like a charm I see
The upper anarchist bureaucrats know what is best, right?
>It's not ideal, ideal would be people not making their points snarkily, but it does help
A warning of "please don't argue like this" would probably stop any more snarkly flame wars BETTER than micro managing the discussions.
Even if they deleted the images they would add a warning saying that this way of discussion isn't productive or something.
This way seems to me that micro managing cunt that did it had personal stake in that discussion.
This way seems to me that moderators of lainchan are douches who like to stiffle any organic discussions, even if they are flame worthy.
Why not employ filter options with IDs to filter out flame posters?
Why not make posters learn on their own that engaging in these kind of dicussions isn't productive instead of babysitting and micro managing?
This makes moderators look like ego driven emotionally unstable fuarrrkos that do as they please

Deleting soykafposts has always been the norm.

Not always, sometimes soykafposts get warned, sometimes they get deleted outright, sometimes just the image. Depends on the situation.
>This way seems to me that micro managing cunt that did it had personal stake in that discussion.
Why? You keep saying this but there's absolutely nothing to suggest it at all.
>This way seems to me that moderators of lainchan are douches who like to stiffle any organic discussions
Yeah, that's a criticism we always get but we've been deleting soykafposts for years, and those posts were clearly soykafposts. That's how we like it. If you don't go elsewhere. We've had this argument on /q/ at least 20 or so times over the past 2-3 years. It's always some newfriend makes a soykafpost, it gets deleted because they didn't bother to lurk moar and they come whine that free discussion is being stifled. We know. We don't want your soykafposts.
Turner · 2017-09-17 16:14

We are talking about deleting soykafposts here. It's not me who decided this. It was kalyx years ago and it's something we have talked about on /q/ many, many times before. If you want to talk about it again that's fine but it's all sorts of unfair to make out that the mods are doing anything other than what they've been asked to, by us, countless times in the past and it betrays a lack of understanding of our culture that these actions would surprise you.

No what is getting old is people unable to grasp what free speech means and thinking they are absolutely clever and smug when they post soykaf without adding to any discussion and try to make everything about politics, like >>4876 demonstrates pretty well.
>>4874 is right, there are plenty of chans where you can spam your imagemacros soykaf post as soon as you are unable to bring any arguments and pat yourself on the back for how "clever" you are for derailing topics "without violating any rules".

this
From the beginning it was just spergs c1rclejerking, then went into some kind of reform to try to fix itself by having few projects (lainzine, programming, hacking...), it all went to soykaf when kalyx started sucking the site dry. He would shut down the site and then whine about "no money for domain and servers". Idiots would give him money and he would buy macintosh or something. He usually got bored with us and simply just went off jerking his ding dong on videochats and not giving a fuarrrk. Appleman stepped in cuz everyone else just started off their own little chan because kalyx was killing the site with his ego. Now we have a sperg for owner.
It was never good, but for a few brief moments that you can call those soykafty zines copy paste zines and CTFs.
You are all whining about nostalgic idealized image of chan that never was.
Something like when /b/tards say "omg, /b/ was better back then". You forgot how soykaf it was. /b/ was never good, and neither is lainchan.

There's no copypasta in them. It was all written by lains.
You seem to have this idea that a chan==it's owner. We're talking about the site having a comfy culture and you bring up kalyx's begging like it's relevant. Nothing could be further from the truth. The owners/mods are janitors. Most of what they do is clean up when there's a mess.
The comfiness, and most other things besides, are on us. It's the community that decides the tone, not the owners.

There are many more than just jp. And now I havent.
>There's no copypasta in them. It was all written by lains.
Almost all soykaf written in there (except for art) is copypasted from somewhere else.
>You seem to have this idea that a chan==it's owner
I said it was mostly spergs c1rclejerking until it tried to have a reform (in which it failed). Do you have trouble reading?
>We're talking about the site having a comfy culture and you bring up kalyx's begging like it's relevant.
It just says a lot about the culture surrounding the website when he cold blooded squeezed you dumbos out of money, bought bunch of macsoykaf and jerked himself in videochat, no?
Shouldn't the owners and leaders of community be a symbol for that community? The fact of matter is that lainchan is filled with weak minds that thought saying "idiot" was bad discussion tool. Kalyx sold them a lie of a "tech chan that is comfy" and then sucked them dry. It only shown how gullible they are. You must prove it was comfy in the first place, not keep the soykafty "muh good community" meme alive as if it's going to manifest itself into reality. As far as I see lainchan is a horrible community of spergs c1rclejerking about info not needed, saying "thank you" a lot whenever they can. That isn't comfy, that is annoying.
>The owners/mods are janitors
I am not going to even insult you on your intelligence, just tell you to go look up the word in the dictionary.
>Most of what they do is clean up when there's a mess.
"They do it for free" meme still stands, no? Isn't that the owners meme of "muh good community" coming to fruition? Meme it and they shall come!
>The comfiness, and most other things besides, are on us. It's the community that decides the tone, not the owners.
Ah yes, and do pray tell, what does this comfiness manifest as? Spergy 3 page diatribes? Desktop threads? Whiny arguments over semantics? Copying and pasting of what they find on stackoverflow? Sh1lling your music or your website? People repeating that this is a "comfy website"? No.
If it was really comfy it would be self evident. No need to call it as such.
The whiners who say "the good old days" existed from early 1800s. It is in human nature to over exaggerate the value of time you spent as a kid. This is usual ego defense mode to protect itself from acknowledging time you spent was useless. It happened to other chans, it happened to lainchan (mostly after 3 or 4 years pass, then it starts kicking in it seems).
Just stop whining and stop calling it great, and instead make it great.
it is kind of ironic seeing a desktop thread here when most of people running away from /g/ were running away for such reason, ricing children sharing something nobody cared about or asked for

>Saying "no" to everything I said doesn't mean you proven me wrong dumbo.
This isn't a court. I don't have to prove soykaf. Almost everyone reading this was here, they saw it with their own eyes.
I'm here for the same reason you and everyone else is. I enjoy this.

That's a shame. We're all just here to enjoy ourselves after all.

The problem with that is there are too many people here now with political agendas that aren't interested in a debate or in learning from anyone else. They cherry pick the "proof" they feel comfortable with from the internet because it backs up what they already believe, while ignoring contrary evidence. Then they attempt to evangelize the entire internet with their gospel truth, including making us part of their mission.
Does that count as "good faith" to you?
