now lainchan and arisuchan?

Haruyoshi · 2017-09-15 10:35
Can someone please give me the rundown on arisuchan? And what is the relationship between the two sites? I don't read /q/ regularly and didn't even realize it wasn't on mega until now. And here I thought there was no drama... Anyways I'm out of the loop. What is the difference between the sites? Is one better than the other? It looks like they're just trying to make the same site with a nicer design and more organized boards. But couldn't they just have made this one nicer? Am I missing something?
Pris · 2017-09-15 11:51
Why did you feel the need to create another thread? There is one on the top of /q/ discussing this. Short version: .jp is now run by russians and some attention whore, they renamed the site to arisu because unstable organization, will probably happen again. They have even less to with us now than before, so basically nothing. > And here I thought there was no drama... Well the drama is limited to them, nothing to do with us. There are just some people that want to run ads for them here. > Is one better than the other? I think others will agree that this is not a *chan review site, decide for yourself, or use both, we don't care, just don't try to push others to agree with your conclusion ("Go to x, everyone, it's so much better than y!").

>>4812 > It looks like they're just trying to make the same site with a nicer design and more organized boards. But couldn't they just have made this one nicer? Am I missing something? They said they tried, but Appleman wouldn't let them change anything. I don't know how much stock to put in that argument because of course they would say that and of course Appleman would deny it. So I don't think we can really know for sure if they tried or not. Does it really matter though? Now that they changed their name they literally have absolutely nothing to do with this site whatsoever. Can we close these threads already. This board is about how we can make this site better not theirs.

>>4837 >Well, they've merged with a suicide cult and it's slowly killing itself anyways, so it would certainly be appropriate. they also host a /ru/ board for ocw from chaos group so it is only a matter of time before the govt shuts them down completely.

>>4838 >>4841 what is ocw?
Sabo Engle · 2017-09-17 03:43
>>4842 >what is ocw? It's "Occult Cyberwar" or "Occult Cybernetic Warfare" depending on your translation. OCW is (was?) kind of the weaponized machine learning/data science wing for the CHAOS group, one of many collectives targeted by the US govt as having been part of Russian's campaign to influence the 2016 election. They say they were forced out of chaos because they "weren't nationalist enough" but I think it is probably more of a cultural issue. Most academic CS types don't mesh well with conventional hackers even if what they're doing is in kind of a grey area.
Mentat · 2017-09-17 06:25
>>4838 >>4844 So they made an actual mindless political propaganda machine and a board that believes suicide is a fun roleplaying activity an integral part of their "cyberpunk" imageboard.

>>4848 > that actually sounds cyb as fuarrrk Your link and discussing the topic behind it is. Except that in this case 'mindless political propaganda machine' means 'blind bootlickers of specific politicians'. And there is not really anything related to your link going on over there. And to basically just run a big ad campaign for the establishment is not cyb at all to me.

>>4849 I would think having Russian hackers use your site would give you serious cyberpunk cred. How did they pull that off anyways? Are they related to the group we had on /layer/? Have we made any effort to get them back?
Neo · 2017-09-17 09:27
>>4844 I've heard of OCW but never realized they were part of a larger group. If OCW handles psychological cyberwarfare what does the rest of the Chaos group do? What is their relationship to APT28/Tsar Team?
Hong, Guil Dong · 2017-09-17 10:20
>>4851 >If OCW handles psychological cyberwarfare what does the rest of the Chaos group do? Espionage. What is their relationship to APT28/Tsar Team? No fuarrrking idea.
Aristóteles Amadópulus · 2017-09-17 10:46
>>4849 Yep, they ran spam bots basically. Also their connection to the rest of the Russian espionage circles is pretty dubious. When you find a bunch of people talking soykaf about being hackers, on discord no less, it's normally not wise to take what they say at face value.
Lady Jessica · 2017-09-17 10:52

I did and I realised I haven't seen any mailing lists coordinating things. There's no media, there's no sources. There's just a bunch of people talking on discord.

>>4857 ocw is pretty well respected in russian .onion community so i have doubts they would actually use arisuchan for anything even banter.
Spike Spiegel · 2017-09-17 11:46
>>4860 Yup. When it comes to secretive organisations it's easy just to use the name of someone respected and steal some cred (there were so many Illuminati's before it became too much of a joke to use) or just pull a Pierre Plantard and invent it whole cloth. Also this whole idea that they were knowingly working with Russian espionage but have now cut ties doesn't exactly ring true. Either they were in it for the money and now that's gone or they were in it for the ideal and now suddenly they've gone from idealistically shiIling for their government to not being nationalist enough. Not to mention even taking them at face value they claim they're propagandists with spam bots. I wouldn't believe anything without real evidence.
Cutter · 2017-09-17 11:59
>>4857 > There's just a bunch of people talking on discord. That sums it up. > i have doubts they would actually use arisuchan for anything I'm going to say that you are right in that regard. >>4861 > Yup. When it comes to secretive organisations it's easy just to use the name of someone respected and steal some cred This, and on top of that, it is pretty pathetic. This whole "we got the elite russian hackers onboard, we are pretty cool and cyb, aren't we?" should tell us a lot. It really seems like this all about some folks on discord that desperately want the "hacker" label.
Mitnick · 2017-09-17 12:26
>>4850 >I would think having Russian hackers use your site would give you serious cyberpunk cred. Yeah, having "hackers" aka spambot maintainers that work with Russian government is really cred worthy. I think that most people consider "cyberpunk cred" to be something you get by fighting against oppressive government, not sleeping in bed with it. Or stealing from other people with the government blessing. We don't even know if they do that. They might be some pedo circle for all we know.
Batou · 2017-09-17 12:44
>>4866 That's a little bit far mate. It's one thing to say they're probably full of soykaf but there's nothing to suggest they might be pedos.
Lady Jessica · 2017-09-17 12:53
>>4866 Exactly, they got as much "cyberpunk cred" as people in any country standing in the city aggressively handing out flyers for the most powerful political party/regime.
Incognito · 2017-09-19 23:31
>>4868 >Exactly, they got as much "cyberpunk cred" as people in any country standing in the city aggressively handing out flyers for the most powerful political party/regime. Yeah maybe if it were an artificial intelligence doing it. OCW basically weaponizes machine learning algorithms and hands it over to CozyCar and CHAOS group. That's a pretty lethal combo imo. I wouldn't want to be their target lol.
Liet Kynes · 2017-09-19 23:48
>>4912 >Yeah maybe if it were an artificial intelligence doing it. OCW basically weaponizes machine learning algorithms and hands it over to CozyCar and CHAOS group. That's a pretty lethal combo imo. What you're overlooking is the fact that OCW does not do this full time. They're regular mathematicians, computer scientists, and grad students that are basically contracted to help RF hacking teams as necessary. Imagine if the US govt put pressure on a few academic departments at elite American universities to help the Equation group on an as-needed basis. Does that make those academics (that wouldn't have otherwise given a fuarrrk about hacking) more cyb? No. Them saying they have OCW members posting on their site carries as much bragging rights as us saying we have MIT or Stanford students (and I'm sure we do). The only difference is that their posting is in Russian.
Liet Kynes · 2017-09-23 20:43
Wow. They actually went through with it. I thought it was just a marketing ploy. They go through all that effort to try and steal our name and then... just give up. It makes no sense. Why didn't they just pick a different name in the first place. Literally why.
Batou · 2017-09-23 23:53
