Censorship

Aristóteles Amadópulus · 2017-09-02 07:44
Why are you deleting posts from >>>/lit/1324 that point out that it is not the Lainzine, you are just using the name for your own zine?
John Doe · 2017-09-02 08:16
It was a one line soykafpost. Meme image+rhetorical question usually doesn't make the cut. They also removed the responses as per usual. Also, if we're going to talk about that. It's incredibly rich. How hypocritical to say, "We're entirely within our rights to start a new lainchan because lainchan belongs to the community," and then turn around and say "Lainzine belongs to the editors and it's stealing if you do the same." People lost faith in Junk and co's good will and it's not surprising when his response to complaints was literally "I don't care what you have to say."
Joe Bloggs · 2017-09-05 08:42
>>4697 It was a question. Not everything that makes you uncomfortable is a soykafpost.
Technician · 2017-09-05 12:18
>>4697 >it's not surprising when his response to complaints was literally "I don't care what you have to say". That's funny because I seem to remember it differently.. >https://lainchan.org/lit/res/309.html#523 >Junk said they "do not give a soykaf about this thread." >He also said "if you want to see the lainzine look a certain way, submit that content yourself." he's clearly saying they don't give a soykaf about you if all you're going to do is use this thread to boss people around. oh >You're just being deliberately obtuse because you want to make your own ripoff zine and slap lainchan.org on it Oh... oh look, it's the offending post in question https://lainchan.org/lit/res/309.html#437 >Check the gitla.in and our project thread on https://lainchan.jp/%CE%BC/ and see for yourself. Speak to me personally if you want to get more involved, whether by email or query on freenode. >The ethos is "if you want something, make it happen." If you want the lainzine to look a certain way, send us that content. https://lainchan.org/lit/res/309.html#445 >>Your personal e-mail as a means of sending labor isn't very trustworthy, at least not for me, sending it directly to my peers on the other hand.. >Which you can do, by uploading to the git. You can also send to lainzine@protonmail.ch, which I just created for this release so it's not on the site yet. And is maintained by multiple people. they seem to be under a lot of pressure in these posts, and is responding flippantly because of that.
Random · 2017-09-05 14:01
>>4729 Yeah when there's a thread full of complaints and you say "I don't give a soykaf what happens in this thread" that's saying you don't give a soykaf about the complaints. That's not a twist it's how Junk was. Still is tbh. Utterly refused to acknowledge that the people complaining were real and not just one guy samefagging. Still tries to downplay those people's contributions and make out that their opinions don't matter. >all you're going to do is use this thread to boss people around I was the bossy guy. I offered him an easy way out of the situation we're now in. He refused to take it and so, with no input from myself, the people who he ignored and insisted couldn't possibly exist decided to go round him. >make your own ripoff zine and slap lainchan.org on it The hypocrisy is palpable. It's ok to make a new lainchan if you don't like the way it's being ran but doing the same for the zine is a "ripoff" and stealing. >if you want something, make it happen It looks like they're way ahead of you there.
Junk · 2017-09-05 17:01
>>4730 >I offered him an easy way out of the situation we're now in you mean, you made a demand and threatened to get hysterical if we didn't do it. Which you proceeded to do. Anyway, I've addressed all this to you on personal terms, the fact that you aren't acknowledging it shows you just want to make a scene. As usual. >It's ok to make a new lainchan if you don't like the way it's being ran but doing the same for the zine is a "ripoff" and stealing. We didn't make a new lainchan, we just hosted its funeral. I realize that now. That being said, "lainchan" was the atmosphere we used to have around this place, which sadly no longer exists. lainchan.jp was its remembrance. You can call this lainchan, and the branding demands it, but it's not the same. >doing the same for the zine is a "ripoff" and stealing And what happened to our split? Do what you'd like, but at least learn from our mistake. If you want to make a zine, you can call it something else and we won't be stepping on each other's toes like this. Or just don't put it in the hands of an authoritarian, as you've seem to have done. >>if you want something, make it happen >It looks like they're way ahead of you there. if by "way ahead of you" you mean, making a fuss about intercepting submissions for your own version of lainzine 5 while ours is nearly finished, sure. I truly do not want there to be a split, so anyone who feels brave and trusting enough, even you or Appleman if he'd like to, can help us out. It will make this go so much faster. lainzine@protonmail.com
Miho Iwakura · 2017-09-24 10:31
>>4732 >even you or Appleman if he'd like to I find it interesting that, with all the fighting about splits and arguing over who should be making the zine, Appleman has kept the, "Zine," link pointing to your site. I think that whatever mod started accepting submissions, it wasn't Appleman's idea, and they might not have even consulted him. He doesn't seem the type to be purposefully divisive like that; his flaws are flaws of inaction.
Technician · 2017-09-24 19:49
>>4732 Absolutely everyone in this thread is a hypocrite. lainchan.org people: it was wrong for you to steal lainchan therefore it's right for us to steal lainzine! lainchan.jp people: it was right for us to steal lainchan therefore it's wrong for you to steal lainzine! How about neither? How about stop fuarrrking each other over and working together for a change? I don't understand the need for a second lainzine. Why don't the people that want a second lainzine just help make the original lainzine better? If Junk wasn't open to working with us, he wouldn't be posting here in the first place.

I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't trying to take control of the zine since he found out about it. >>4935 lainchan.jp doesn't exist anymore, and he isn't actually "stealing" lainzine so much as stealing content from a few new people. I want to get along, but he's not letting it happen.

>>4937 >I agree, and I know exactly who is behind this. I wouldn't write that I'm the only one behind this, necessarily. >He has a long-held grudge against me and wants to kill me because of my sexuality. I never wanted to kill you specifically because of that. I never cared about you enough to want to kill you and I repeatedly told you as much. >I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't trying to take control of the zine since he found out about it. I never had an issue with you running things. >lainchan.jp doesn't exist anymore, and he isn't actually "stealing" lainzine so much as stealing content from a few new people. I'm not stealing anything. You, on the other hand, took work from the community and then pulled a perfectly good release, despite all of the errors I noticed, to advertise another website and then you didn't care that the very authors took issue with this. I've written the most articles for the Lainzine, but that doesn't matter, does it? >I want to get along, but he's not letting it happen. I don't care about you at all. I want the next Lainzine to be good, but I no longer trust that you wouldn't take the work and do the same thing again. You want to use a proprietary license so you can maintain stricter control and force anyone wanting to sell copies of the Lainzine to go through you. I don't agree with that and many of the contributors you've collected work from also don't agree with it, from what I've seen. Now, while I'll freely admit that I figured I could do a better job of running the Lainzine than you, once you'd left, I suppose I don't care if you go back to managing it in some way here, if you can control yourself well enough. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.
Junk · 2017-09-25 03:06
>>4938 >I wouldn't write that I'm the only one behind this, necessarily. You're the OP, correct? >I never wanted to kill you specifically because of that Semantics. Fact remains that you think I'm a degenerate and you'd kill me if you had the opportunity. I'd imagine it's sexually motivated, probably also because of my political views. >took work from the community and then pulled a perfectly good release I re-released because a moderator on this website asked me to. Ask him if you don't believe me. >no longer trust that you wouldn't take the work and do the same thing again. Then put it on your website. All you're doing is showing us that you can't make something as good as the lainzine yourself, and have to copy the name from others. >You want to use a proprietary license We've discussed copyright. Where did I say we're using a proprietary license? >You want to use a proprietary license so you can maintain stricter control and force anyone wanting to sell copies of the Lainzine to go through you. I don't agree with that and many of the contributors you've collected work from also don't agree with it, from what I've seen. That's a lie. People who want to sell copies have to go through the typesetter no matter what, in order to optimize for print. > I suppose I don't care if you go back to managing it in some way here, if you can control yourself well enough. We're a flat organization, meaning there's no hierarchy of authority that you seem to be insisting on. That's been established a long time ago. If you don't like it, you were always free not to contribute. So, does Appleman know you think you're in charge here? Last time I spoke to him, he informed me that you said you were going to contact us a month before making the thread, which you never did. Lying to your boss can't go over well, you know. PS: here's another post you might try to censor. For posterity. Because you deleted a couple of my posts earlier this weekend, too. Anyone who wants to submit to the lainzine can still do so at lainzine@protonmail.com . This is the only way to have your piece printed and hosted on our website (linked in the top bar under /zine/). Here's hoping we don't get censored again.

>>4939 >You're the OP, correct? I'm the poster of >>>/lit/1324 yes. >Semantics. Fact remains that you think I'm a degenerate and you'd kill me if you had the opportunity. I'd imagine it's sexually motivated, probably also because of my political views. Again, I don't care about you enough to want to do this. If you insist that I'm obsessed with your homosexuality, then that's your issue. >I re-released because a moderator on this website asked me to. Ask him if you don't believe me. You changed the cover in that well known incident. >Then put it on your website. All you're doing is showing us that you can't make something as good as the lainzine yourself, and have to copy the name from others. How is Lainchan continuing the Lainzine copying a name from others? If it's a flat hierarchy, then what makes you think you've any more say than I do in all of this? What gives you the right to claim that the Lainzine moved to where you wanted it to among everything else? >We've discussed copyright. Where did I say we're using a proprietary license? You want to use a noncommercial creative commons license. >That's a lie. People who want to sell copies have to go through the typesetter no matter what, in order to optimize for print. That's a lie. A person who wants to sell copies could do it themselves if the license allowed for it. You may be interested to know that we're planning to create a building process for the fifth Lainzine that would aid this. >So, does Appleman know you think you're in charge here? Appleman1234 is aware of all of this, clearly, and I'm no more in charge now than I was when kalyx was here. >Last time I spoke to him, he informed me that you said you were going to contact us a month before making the thread, which you never did. I don't recall this at all. >Lying to your boss can't go over well, you know. No one here is my boss. I'm a volunteer. If I were being paid, that message would hold some weight, but I've been putting in more than I've been getting out for years now and that increased even more with this rebuilding that's been taking place. Don't portray me as some sneak or vandal; I've done nothing of the sort. >PS: here's another post you might try to censor. For posterity. Because you deleted a couple of my posts earlier this weekend, too. The Lainzine thread is not the place for you to do that. I don't see why you make such posts and expect them to stay up. I don't think you and those others would've put up with nearly so much from us, if we'd done similar to you. >Anyone who wants to submit to the lainzine can still do so at lainzine@protonmail.com . This is the only way to have your piece printed and hosted on our website (linked in the top bar under /zine/). Here's hoping we don't get censored again. It's ironic that you're complaining about censorship while you also mention that the link is still there. If I were like you, the link wouldn't be there, would it? Now, this isn't the time for such animosity; I've shown a willingness to work with you and you don't seem to want to do the same, for whatever reasons. Do you actually want to work with us again, Junk, or do you simply want to tell others you do? I don't care to argue further in a back and forth. If you want to work with me and others here, then let your next post make arrangements for such so we can continue. If not, then that's disappointing, I suppose.

>>4940 I love how you never contradicted the point that you consider me a degenerate or that you've stated you would kill me. Which are really just some examples of why you shouldn't be getting involved, and why you might have an ulterior motive for what you're doing right now. As well as a part of the larger picture of fascist political beliefs you call "authoritarian," pertaining to how you think things should be run in general. >You changed the cover We did change the cover, because the artist sent in a different one for us to use. You can find out more about that on the alicechan thread. But the reason I re-released in the first place is because an author and moderator on this website asked me to. >How is Lainchan continuing the Lainzine copying a name from others? Because "lainchan" is not a person with the agency to do that, it's a concept that got sold and a mask you're using to escape accountability. The lainzine was never sold along with it, I thought that was made clear a while ago. >What gives you the right to claim that the Lainzine moved to where you wanted it to among everything else? Where did I say that? I'm asking you to stop acting like you run the magazine, and intercepting submissions, as well as censoring my posts in an attempt to trick newcomers. All you're doing is misleading people. >A person who wants to sell copies could do it themselves if the license allowed for it. It's naive to think that's how it works. Once someone sends in their content, they retain all rights over their work. In a strictly legal sense, if someone wanted to sell physical copies, it would be up to all the authors of the content. You're obviously free to make copies in a cheap printer, and sell those, but they would look like soykaf and nobody would want them. Also, if you profit from any author's work without their permission, that's a violation of intellectual property. The license we use has nothing to do with that, because authors retain all rights to their work. >I'm no more in charge now than I was when kalyx was here. if that's the case, you wouldn't be doing this. Kalyx kept you on a short leash for a good reason, now we all know what happens when you don't have one. >I don't recall this at all. that's because you weren't privy to it. It was a private conversation between me and Appleman, which I won't post here without his permission for respect of his privacy. But he's informed me that you complained about waiting for a month after letting us know your intentions, even though you never actually did that. >No one here is my boss do you know what a figure of speech is? >The Lainzine thread is not the place for you to do that The lainzine thread is not the place to tell people how to submit to the lainzine? what doublethink is this? If you want to continue having this conversation, or work with me as you've been claiming, you're obviously free to email me, or us. In general, if you want to work with the lainzine, the email to use is lainzine@protonmail.com. And my email is junk0@riseup.net. Those are the best ways to get in touch, because I don't plan to check this thread continuously. We also maintain a channel on freenode, for anyone who wants to get involved: #lainzine . We've been using freenode since before you were around. I'm also lurking in your IRC indefinitely, so you can contact me there, if you would be so inclined.

You're trying to paint the guy as a murderer because you have personal/political beef with him? >We did change the cover Yes. You did and it pissed a lot of people off and you didn't give any sort of fuarrrk. Completely refused to acknowledge that it was happening and you still are. "I know who's behind this. I don't know what the magazine is. I don't read fiction and so I probably don't care. I don't know who the site owner is or who the mods are. Not only do I not care to know this, but I sincerely don't want to know it, because I learned from Acidman's administration of infinity's /gamergate/ board that namefagging and avatarfagging are malignant cancer. They are extentions of the ego. They are stupid. They are irrelevant. Keep them out of the way. Extrapolating from this, "Junk" or "Appleman" are both cancer. Your name is "Admin" or "Anon". Preferably always "Anon". Wearing a special hat or a tripcode is for forced memesters. Don't ever do it now. Secondly, and this concerns the licensing of content: if you're not using either a public domain or a non-attribution share-alike license, then you are using a kerplun-cunked license. I do stupid stuff that no one would ever want to buy and so it's never been a worry for me, but it boils down to this: I do not care if you credit my name. Not one bit. Names only matter in marketing. I'm not in marketing. I do insist that if you modify my work, that the modified content is equally shareable and that you're not going to then hire copyright trolling lawyers to police what is essentially free content with some bells and glitter stuck on it. Non-attribution share-alike is what this represents. I believe GPL may meet that criteria. I believe BSD licenses are basically public domain. In which case, both are absolutely fine. I say again: I neither know nor care one way or the other about any of you. I don't know if these arguments are in alignment with OP's original complaint or not, but they are egoless and they are self-evident. Lainchan is a comfy place and will remain pretty sweet as long as everyone entering it tries their hardest not to be an autistic glitterboy (which includes everyone in this thread). P.S I'm still funposting and rolling for dubs
