I left my lainchan.jp "admin" job today and I won't be working with any lainchan anymore. The site is dead to me. I'm not going to get into the details about what is happening between me and Seph, or "arisuchan.jp". I am no longer with the project, what's with all the Russian soykaf? Discord is trash. I have no idea what's going on anymore. The whole situation is absolutely super fukin lame and I urge you to find something better to do than to follow this. I'll be brewing soykaf on Volafile again til I die. Writing to you from 1000 miles away at ps3udonyms house, visiting for installgen2 and glooder's wedding. It's not a bad thing for us but for .jp it's a death knell. Most of the people who went there were from the same social circle (which is why they followed in the first place) and it looks like Seph just burned her bridges with them.
Best of luck to Seph with her new Russian friends (the systemspace refugees seem intent on moving on) but I doubt many lains will stick around.

Mod drama ruins the mood of a site. Who wants to use a site that has constant drama.
>They're not splitting off and making yet another.
I mean, they got rid of most of the old mods and admins, isn't that essentially what a fork would entail? The whole reason that site was made was because of supposed issues with how Apple and ran things, they (seph plus deposed mods and admins) all thought they could run the site better.
That failed so they're starting "fresh" with new staff and a new name. How is that not a fork?

Is there a single form of community as volatile and hard to sustain as smaller imageboards? The autism is way too fuarrrking high in most anons to properly keep a community running without splintering, because it seems most of us would rather abuse power in higher positions and tard out over stupid things in lower ones then actually try to get a decent community to work. I only see this happening when the boards revolve around "personalities", because people trying to become small scale celebrities in imageboard communities are always drama queens.
As we have experienced with Kalyx. He was constantly trying to "troll" and confuse everyone and behaved in a highly unstable way. Even long before selling lainchan he often "joked" about how lainchan is going offline soon and similar soykaf.
You can observe the same thing currently with .jp and their Seph Discord crew.

There is way less namefagging by the arisuchan staff than the lainchan staff so by your argument Appleman is the one that wants the spotlight. But I don't see it that way.
Let me propose a radical idea. Maybe they want what we want? Maybe they want to build a nice imageboard, but disagree on how is best to do so? You can't say they're not trying.
Sabo Engle · 2017-09-15 03:00
>>4807
well, maybe its a sad thought for some of you, but to me it seems totally fine:
image boards like this, are pretty temporary things. they live a while, have their fun, and eventually they die. thats fine. is it a little sad ? sure, but its what happens.
the community is, and has to be, nomadic. if you're irked by the staff, the moderation, you make a fuss, and if things dont change, you leave. there are other sites.
there is some degree that i wish that i could point you someplace and say, that area's free from drama and internal politics, but frankly, i've been living with humans for some time, and where humans go, drama, and politics follow. some people more so than others, sure, but it happens everywhere.
the solution, if you wish to remain in this ''community'', is to be willing to leave when you need to, to be willing to support people making a place that you like when you see it happening. no website design can stop drama. maybe if you got rid of moderators and had some fully anarchic board there could ostensibly be no politics. but thats basically fixing a leak by removing the entire wall--it doesnt help.
maybe people like >>4808 have a point that more invisible, less drama prone mods are less likely to incite schizms or drama, ones who do their best to fade into the background may be less volatile.
but at the same time, 'personality'-type mods seem to be the ones who actually create boards. kaylx made lainchan, even if you hate his every fingernail clipping you have to admit that. seph is making arisuchan. m00t made 4chan, I wasnt there at the time but he defenitly seems to not have been a totally anonymous ''admin'' who you never personally paid attention to.
maybe they all make messes sometimes, maybe a different personality would be less volatile, but I dont see many image boards being made and getting successful with bland and invisible admins.
I dislike the politics and the drama as much as anyone. but its just something we have to deal with. if you dont like it, go somewhere else. you wont be able to escape, of course. but I mean, you can feel like you're doing something.
Hitomi · 2017-09-15 06:26

>Maybe they want to build a nice imageboard, but disagree on how is best to do so?
That would be fine if a large part of their idea on how to do so wasn't to hurt this one.
>>4810
Nah. You're right that drama follows people and we're never quite free of it and that some are worse for it than others but it doesn't take a drama whore to make a board. The ones who aren't are just less memorable. Look at Sei. That's not to say deliberately trying to stay out of the spotlight is a good idea. Often the worst response in the face of drama is to ignore it, hence why people who say "I always just avoid drama" tend to be surrounded by it, but some are much better at not making a scene than others.

Kek. They were kids playing at it at best. Even before we get to the complete rats arse they made of it, it's a fuarrrking imageboard not a war.
>I mean what was she supposed to do
Errr just not? There are so many other options and even when it's true "it was the only way to achieve my goals" is universally a soykafty reason. I personally warned Seph before any of this went down about the damage it could do to the community if she was hostile. I even phrased it that it definitely would do serious damage but, fortunately, I was ascribing a level of competence that was unwarranted. More than that I laid out the other options.
>write a manifesto about why appleman is like kicking dead whales down the beach and why we should user her site instead?
No. You just had to be patient. To present another option to people and wait for them to make decisions on their own. To treat them with respect instead of trying to falsely manipulate them. To trust them and ascribe to them enough intelligence that it becomes apparent that trying to lie to them is going to end up the way that it did, with them seeing straight through it.
>no one wants to hear that in this echo chamber of appleman is god.
You don't get to shiIl and then complain that everything you say is being dismissed as shiIling. It's not like anyone has an unrealistic opinion of Appleman and I don't know what would give you the impression that they do. He's not some incredibly charismatic crowd pleaser you know. It just doesn't take much to pick him over the guys trying to deliberately stir up drama.
>w/o demonizing its admin
But you can't start a new site without demonising an admin?
>to be fair her attitude has changed considerably. in the beginning it was "fuarrrk this site. let's destroy it." to "fuarrrk their site. let's make our own thing."
Nah. She's still the same old Seph. That much is apparent from the "Things aren't going so well? Hmmm. Must be everyone else's fault. Let's kick them all out on a whim."
>>4824
That doesn't make it ok to cheat on your wife. That bad things happening as a result of your actions is the norm not the exception is why they're bad actions. More than that, it wasn't some roll of the dice as to how things would go down. It was our choices. She chose to fuarrrk with the board list and try to stir up drama. Also, divorces often do go down without a scandal. Airing your dirty laundry in public is looked down upon and unless one party has done something soykafty like cheat they'll usually keep their personal problems personal.

But their site *is* doing better without Kalyx? Firing him was the best decision she's made BY FAR.
It is for the best of both arisuchan AND lainchan to remove Kalyx from the scene. It's about fuarrrking time.

That is soykaf, this whole "imageboard war" thing was a complete .jp thing, most people here were either confused about
the situation or did not care. Seph spewed soykaf and continued being the terrible person that she is, while most here just went on.
Like others have already said, they are not our problem.
> no one wants to hear that in this echo chamber of appleman is god
Another false claim, I can't say much about him so far, but Appleman does a pretty good job so far not getting involved with Kalyx and Sephs weird baby girl drama. It's not worth a reaction.
If anything, Appleman gets soykaf on pretty often.
>>4824
This whole thing was not a "divorce": Another person had a problem and tried to make that somehow OUR problem, which it was absolutely not, and still is not. After that this person started to fling soykaf and cried out to get attention.

> But their site *is* doing better without Kalyx? Firing him was the best decision she's made BY FAR.
I am not going to say that this is wrong, it is not.
However the reason for that is NOT because Seph is better than Kalyx (Seph is the worst), it's because they are both
drama queens, and no site would be able to sustain both of them, and removing any of those two would would lead to an
improvement. Whether Seph is somewhat more stable than Kalyx remains to be seen.

By that argument shouldn't lainchan have dramatically improved after Seph left the staff? I would argue things have gotten worse. We continue to use lainchan despite these changes (eg the soykaftier boardlist, the more anal moderation) not because of them.

>shouldn't lainchan have dramatically improved after Seph left the staff?
Not when Seph and Co have been trying to brew soykaf.
>I would argue things have gotten worse.
With the exception of the people deliberately trying to soykaf stuff up it's been fine. The community is doing its usual stuff and the worst you can say about Appleman is that he leaves blue text on the wrong things sometimes. Use the options if you don't like the boardlist btw.
John Rain · 2017-09-17 10:57

yep. seph and co are responsible for this.
are we still going to be blaming them for everything in 2029? i hope we can grow up before the singularity.
Dox · 2017-09-17 11:14
>>4856
That's not what I said. They're responsible for the shiIling, (i.e. the only thing that's actually wrong). The board list is fine, like I say if you have a narrow screen or whatever use the options and the worst that can be said for the moderation is adding blue text.
Tank · 2017-09-17 11:47
>>4858
>The board list is fine
it's not the fuarrrking width in pixels. omg the autism glasses. it's the way they're organized in the first place. for a community this size we should have four boards not 18. overboards are still boards. and even if you say they're not we still have a metric soykafton. we are not 4chan.
perhaps instead of blaming .jp for everything we could actually try to focus on constructive criticism of .org.
i'll start: can we merge inter/lit/music/vis/hum back into an actual /cult/ board (not overboard bullsoykaf) and merge /sec/ and /tech/ into /cyb/ i want that board back. also adding some spacing on the board list would make it easier to click on them too.

we should also delete /r/ it would increase the average post quality by 200%. 10% r9k is too much r9k. there is no safe dose.

Go into the options and click "Enable underboard hiding" and you get most of what you want. As for the actual board distribution it's been possibly the most contested thing. Everybody wants something different and you can't keep everyone happy. The different display options are a compromise to that.

There weren't many complaints pre-reset so why use the reset as an opportunity to fuarrrk it all up? If it were really necessary to change the boards, we would have done it before the reset not after.

There were something like 3 full threads about it when the boards were being restored plus gods knows how many before. Not to mention the board list having being changed a ton of times over the years. Imo, none of it was ever necessary but, like I say, lots of people, lots of different opinions.

I don't think many are really happy with how it is now. They just deal with it.
John Rain · 2017-09-17 18:11

That depends. The current idea of having overboards aggregating is a compromise between the two main camps, fine grained and coarse grained. Hide the underboards if you want coarse and the overboards if you want fine. I think the idea of this works fine and with the right options people can get what they want. The only problem is I don't think everyone knows about the options and, especially for newcomers, it's not always obvious how the overboards work in the first place. Still, these are solvable problems. Better defaults, something on the overboards page that says what they aggregate, maybe something in the faq. Lots of options.

Trust me. No one wants or asked for this clusterfuck:
[$$$/rules/faq/news][λ/diy/sec/tech][inter/lit/music/vis/hum/drg/zzz][layer/q/r][cult/psy][mega/random][/][cal/irc/radio/stream/zine][Options][watchlist]

At the very least drop the no of letters down to one:
[ λ / d / s / t ] [ i / l / m / v / h / g / z ] [ y / q / r ] [ c / p ] [ m / r ]
This looks so much cleaner.
