Child Love in the IRC, still going strong

Emmanuel · 2017-07-16 20:00
The following logs are from yesterday, when crash_override (loli_lapride) convinced users that he was real-time liveposting the molestation of a little girl. He described, in detail, luring her over to his house from her backyard, bringing her inside, stripping off her clothes, tying her wrists, and forcing her to shower, and then showering with her. Appleman was nowhere to be found, and when he returned, his only comments were: 2017-07-15 14:59:39@Appleman1234crash_override: WTF ? 2017-07-15 14:59:59@Appleman1234crash_override: so many rule violations in the backlog, go home you are / were drunk That's it. No ban or even warning for violating the IRC rules and disgustingly roleplaying molesting a little girl. It's clear Appleman doesn't actually care about pedophilia, aside from when people are hassling him about it. The channel may be gone, but the problem is still very much alive.
The Fin · 2017-07-16 20:21
Go home, you are / were drunk.
Dozer · 2017-07-16 21:18
My stomach turned reading it. Absolutely disgusting. How is this even still allowed after that whole drama thread soykaf?
Ein · 2017-07-16 22:44
>>4397 Repeated moralising statements like "disgusting" are not an argument, also it obviously didn't actually happen. Someone's brewing soykaf irritates you, use your IRC client's "ignore" feature.
Tyrell Wellick · 2017-07-16 22:45
>>4403 Furthermore, "pedophilia" is not a crime, and roleplaying is not actual child abuse.
Yu-ichi · 2017-07-16 22:46
Just checked my logs. Didn't actually happen at all. Somebody is clearly just trying to stir soykaf. Here's a dump of the logs for that night grepped by crash's name. https://ghostbin.com/paste/mhrhn

>>4397 Not this again. I was asleep, and you are making assumptions based on the limited information available in the public channel, rather than the published rules and statements and the actual sequence of events. From the rules: 232 - 9. If you are considering publishing channel logs, think it through. 232 - The Lainchan IRC network is an interactive, real-time environment where discussions may be heavily influenced by external context. 232 - Even on public channels, most users do not weigh their comments with the idea that they will be enshrined in perpetuity to stand on their own. 232 - For that reason, few participants publish logs and we encourage those communities that do to make their participants aware of this fact. 232 - 11. #lainchan is special due to cultural legacy reasons, Please bear in mind that the server rules still apply here, though for legacy cultural reasons the enforcement may not be as consistent as in other channels. From the log you posted: 2017-07-15 09:08:45crash_overkikewex, why get so worked up over soykafpost From the eventual reply I got in #soykafposing. <Appleman1234> any reason for the rule violations and soykaf posting in #lainchan earlier ? <crash_override> when <crash_override> huh <crash_override> ? <crash_override> I am unsure what you are referring to (I don't remember) <crash_override> but it was probably a result of me drinking last night <Appleman1234> Yeah <Appleman1234> you got drunk and said some stuff <crash_override> welp <crash_override> sorry for the rule breaking I am not sure what your expectations are: But if they are instant ban without thought and reflection of circumstance and due process within 15 seconds of something being typed in an unmoderated IRC channel ,Then your expectations may be set too high. In terms of what is being done regarding this incident already. 1. Automoderator is being written for Arisu, in order automoderate and autoremind regarding rules, server wide. 2. Additional IRC Ops for #lainchan are being searched for. There was one in training, but they failed to pass induction. 3. The investigation with regards to crash_override's drunk posting / brewing soykaf / roleplay is still ongoing and the consequences of actions will happen eventually, if I was too ban everyone for every soykaf in #lainchan, then that would be at least 1 third of the channel, given that one of the rules of #lainchan as part of Rule 10 and Rule 11 of the network is 33% brewing soykaf. You are correct, I haven't instant derezzed a soykafpost / drunk post and I am still investigating the extent of rule violations for that incident. > It's clear Appleman doesn't actually care about pedophilia, aside from when people are hassling him about it. It isn't clear, this is your false conclusion. As I said before I don't condone pedophilia and regardless of my stance on pedophilia, the stance of the rules on the subject for the chan and IRC network is clear. As for your post title and closing statement, problems don't just magically disappear, some problems have solutions, other problems are ongoing or recurring and only have mitigation strategies that result in a certain set of outcomes.

Crash was exempted from those bans because most people, including the main guy who was pushing for bans asap, felt that was fair. He keeps his head down, doesn't bother people and lives a solitary life. The worst thing about him was that he got uncomfortable with people talking about sex, drunken soykaf aside. >>4430 Let's not pretend there isn't literally a big scheme to make him look bad. We've seen indisputable evidence of that. It's very hard to give every post the benefit of the doubt in situations like that. Obviously this isn't ideal and it means good points don't get everything they deserve. "There are no mods," "Most of the mods left," and I can't believe anyone who's been paying attention throughout this genuinely thinks the guy is a paedo on the evidence that he did the same thing he always does. As much as this specifically wasn't them, there genuinely was a problem this time (i.e. the paedo soykaf in general. This thread was taken care of before it was made), they have been trying to put pressure on him, we've seen that. They got identified doing it and this whole thing could have been a hell of a lot smother if they hadn't. No man is a rock. >Turns out we are lainchan users too. Certainly, and that even goes for Junk and Seph and kalyx. Even though they haven't played fair at all none of this is srs bsns. At the same time, there is literally a big scheme to make him look bad, and it's the .jp mods doing it, and that gets in the way of him taking everything at face value and constructively. It's not like there's even a big problem in this thread. Just people saying he's too slow to do things that he's already done or insinuations that he's a paedo. Biggest legitimate complaint is probably the three images thing, which is fair but not exactly pressing. So anyway, sorry if you're some random .jp user, I know this has nothing to do with you. >>4502 >but if you agree with the reason .jp exists then why don't you use .jp? makes no sense. Because you can use both websites jackass. You can go to lainchan.org even if you go to /g/. You can go to lainchan.org even if you go to lainchan.jp. I'm so sick of this "taking sides" bullsoykaf. Grow up.

>>4497 All but a few of this site's supposed moderators are just Appleman posting without a name and/or using multiple handles. Why do you think he refuses to even disclose the usernames of the moderators when they could just give a one-off name to be known by the community by, if they were uncomfortable tying themselves to other handles? Why do you think their typing styles and behaviours match his fully?

>>4508 Complete and utter bullsoykaf mate. I've been on mumble with them before. They're all real people and most of them were here long before he was.

>>4496 No, most mods just prefer to remain silent. Mostly so that people don't abuse them of using their mod status.(i.e. on other forums where pople tell you that people listen to you only because you're a mod) When Appleman bough the site and had a BDFL approach(remember when he removed the boardlist) people accused him of being 'undemocratic' and crazier than Kalyx. Now when he did the 180 and became 'democratic' people accuse him of being too slow and and fiddly around his decisions. Part of why Appleman is 'slow' now is because he discusses almost everything with mods. And mods discuss almost everything with other mods/admins. Few of the issues that the staff deals with are straightforward so the default is to discuss it.

Few of the issues that the staff deals with are straightforward so the default is to discuss it. NICE TRY APPLEMEME When you pulled that whole deleting the boards stunt you pissed a lot of people off. Kalyx had to come back and intervene because your autism level got so fuarrrking high you couldn't even relate to us anymore. The fact that Kalyx deleted the site for real was just icing on the cake. You must have been happy that he was able to pull the trigger that you couldn't. >>4508 yeah there are no mods. just a bunch of samef.ags
Morpheus · 2017-07-28 12:27
>>4514 That's really obviously not Appleman. If I could get him to talk like that most of the time I'd be over the moon. He doesn't use idiomatic speech like 'did the 180.' Also kalyx didn't do anything useful when the boardlist went. He came and shouted at him about it along with approximately 300 other people but it took someone actually listening to him for a change to get it resolved. And there are mod, he doesn't same user. You've obviously got this angle you're going to push regardless of facts or evidence and it's one we've had out on /q/ a bunch of times over the past month (remember when they tried to claim Yukko left too? That was some funny soykaf). Anyone actually curious about the validity of this should use the search.

Neither extreme is desirable. He is too slow and fiddly.

>>4516 He is slow and fiddly but, in the strict sense, not too slow and fiddly. Most of the stuff that comes up we just have a lot of time to deal with and it's often better to do them thoroughly. It's not ideal but it's not a deal breaker either. >>4521 Oh sorry. They claimed he'd left for .jp. He left in terms of not being active ages ago iirc.

>>4525 >What does any of that matter? We don't get to choose our admin. yes. you can. you decide which website to use.
Roy Batty · 2017-07-29 10:06
>>4523 Seph is egotistical, unstable and more concerned with appearances than realities. Appleman can be difficult to talk to but when it's a challenge I feel I'm working against his communication skills. So long as I can find the right questions to ask and put aside any rudeness it's fine. More than fine he's great. Genuinely cares a lot about the community and wants to put it first. Talking with Seph was about working against her ego. Trying to get through to her that starting a new site wasn't going to be as easy as everyone immediately jumping ship was beyond me. Likewise stressing that being at all hostile or antagonistic about it would just hurt everyone seems to have fallen on deaf ears. It's also evident that she's either behind or oblivious to the extended smear campaign we've seen over the past month neither of which speak well for her. Anyway, I've not a massive interest in tearing down Seph's lot. We (the .org people) haven't been interested in offence, like going over to their /q/ and trying to brew soykaf, at all during this because, for fuarrrks sake, it just hurts everyone.

If your government follows the universal declartion of human rights (especially article 2,18,19), then I'm confident that having that attraction is completely legal and shouldn't be prosecuted.

Stop bringing IRC drama to the board. They're governed by different rules and have different expectations. If you want to raise an issue with the IRC, do it there.
Haruyoshi · 2017-08-12 22:21
Before we let this topic die (the other thread reached its post limit; sorry for new thread.), is there any way to verify that this will be handled appropriately in the future? Do we have any new administrators or moderators besides Appleman1234 which will take this seriously in the future? The pedos are still underezzed so it's only a matter of time until something happens again. And you've already lost my trust Appleman1234. I would like others to be accountable. And I can't be the only one who actually cares about this. So I'm speaking up. How do you plan on earning it back? Or do you have others that deserve our trust? I want answers. I shouldn't be afraid of using the IRC or browsing the board at work. What in the serious fuarrrk is wrong with you.
Appleman1234 · 2017-08-12 22:58
>>4597 Don't make a new post, when a reply to an existing thread that isn't at post limit will suffice. This is already being handled appropriately in future. I don't really care if you trust me or not, that is your prerogative as a lainon to trust me or to like me or to hate me as you see fit. Rules are already in place both on IRC and the chan. Rules are already being enforced. Additional work is being done to improve the enforcement. Lainons are already sacrificing freedoms in the name of this witchhunt. Which supposed pedos are underezzed ? What is your criteria ? I don't plan on earning your trust back, because you haven't even stated terms of engagement for interacting with you. I can only act appropriately and allow you your freedom and prerogative to trust me if and when you choose. Is there any way to verify this ? No, not really, we are Lainchan, not Blockchain, there is no verification of messages built in to the protocol. Other Lainchan staff are welcome to respond, but as far as I know , none of them have expressed any interest in being Internet police for IRC, and all of them delete and ban CP when it is posted on the imageboard.
