lainchan / q
so lainchan.jp is changing their name
Liet Kynes · 2017-06-30 11:25
You know things are going to soykaf when even lainchan.jp doesn't want to be associated with us. First we lose all of our affiliates and now lainchan.jp doesn't even want our name anymore. I don't see this as victory. I see this as depressing.
Appleman's handling of affairs since the split is affecting our reputation far beyond the reaches of this image board. I'm not saying things can't improve, perhaps they even will, but I think we should look at this as a wake up call.

Well at least we'll have the name to ourselves now...
Whatever is left of it anyways.
Drifter · 2017-06-30 23:47
who even cares?
just keep using the site, what's the point in stressing over whether some guys at some other community like us or not.
Acid Burn · 2017-07-01 03:10
Why do you think that we should remotely care if they're going to change their name or not? This looks more like blatant advertisement. Anyways I doubt that's going to be the case, it seems more like a publicity stunt. Also I don't understand how can they say stuff such as "it's awkward now that applechan is associating with questionable content". When kalyx was here the imageboard used to be nuked with cp.

If it's just a "publicity stunt," then they are putting an unreasonable amount of effort into it.

Key word: nuked. It was deleted. Not condoned.
Just look at Appleman's own words:

>1. Lock the channels
>2. Redirect to an onion messageboard on the same topic
Kalyx would have never even entertained the idea of explicitly endorsing and underground pedo ring. That is not to say it reflects highly on Kalyx. It reflects poorly on Appleman. Which reflects poorly on all of us. You have to be pretty fuarrrked in the head to even think about linking to a darkweb pedo site.

it was some soykaf users on irc that liked to talk about kids so appleman directed them elsewhere. that's it. jesus it's like you've never been on the wired. the issue has barely anything to do with this site and irc drama shouldn't spill this much into lainchan since most irc users don't even contribute much to lainchan anyway they just like to complain and stir soykaf.

I can't imagine you haven't been paying attention and I can't imagine anyone who has actually believes this soykaf. Nice try and all but look at yourselves. Nobody did soykaf to deserve being called a pedo but that's where we are right now and for what? Worth it? Really?
Please, just stop. Let it go. You've so many other options. You can change the name and try to start your own thing or just come back as anons. I couldn't care, but this, the bit where you try and make out that a guy's a pedophile for what? Is just...

This wasn't my idea, It was suggested >>3770 e.g. ILikeBiscuits a mod from lainchan.jp, that claims to care about both sites , and the idea was included because it was a proposal suggested by a lainon, not because it was being ever considered as a viable option, as it was the questions I asked for clarification on from ILikeBiscuits were never answered.

So minor yet it was worthy to address in a news post by herr apfelmensch.

.jp is hardly active. Keeping the lainchan name for themeselves is only confusing people as a disadvantage to them; lainchan.org already has the name recognition. Don't believe me? Check out the .org irc or just compare bump activity between /all/ and /mega/. If you are judging success by activity this site is more successful.
Kalyx might be a more interesting person than Appleman but the community is what makes the site, and lainchan has it. If only appleman and the .jp mods could settle their differences and work together on .org...

>If only appleman and the .jp mods could settle their differences and work together on .org...
Honestly, this is this Lainon's wet dream.
The best parts of .org and the best parts of .jp would make the ultimate imageboard. Appleman has demonstrated he's able to learn from his mistakes lately, with stuff like removing the boards list and warning posts, so here's to hoping he'll eventually come to his senses about the things that drove the .jp staff away to begin with. From there, a reconciliation just might be possible.
Vasya Pupkin · 2017-07-03 05:31
>>4320
I'm glad to hear other lainons have this dream. But it's a battle of egos and frankly Kalyx is pretty immature with dealing with these sorts of situations, especially considering he deleted lainchan.org for the lulz/out of spite. I can't speak for Junk or other mods since I never knew them behaviorally too well, which might reflect well on them.
That said the .jp mods are really creative and gave lainchan a certain spark. But now they're stuck with a dead imageboard.

He derezzed them after two days. He's not the fastest about anything, everyone knows that, but you'd be mad to jump to the conclusion that he hass a particular sympathy when he did what he always does.
>>4317
Long story short, lots of detail missing here. Kalyx used an old admin account to delete the server. About a week later two of the mods+kalyx decided they didn't like Appleman and wanted to make their own site. They used their mod accounts to try to redirect people to their site. Since then (about a month ago) /q/ has been full of tons of posts with the same complaints (like suspiciously tons). It started off being pretty fair, it was complaints that he was too slow or too formal or other things but when it became apparent that these weren't unsolvable problems and most people didn't really care too much about them in the first place it started to go downhill. Now, it's ludicrous allegations that he's a pedo. In the meantime kalyx fuarrrked up and outed himself as one of the "concerned lainons" making so many posts to the great surprise of no-one.
Whole thing has been an utter clusterfuck.
>>4320
>>4321
Yeah. The only way this really ends is that we sit down and talk about it like we were always going to have to from the start. At the same time, abuse of mod powers has been a thing here. I'd love to have those people back but putting them in a position where they could do similar things again is probably not wise. There are other options though I'm sure.

It's over and done with now, but Appleman's hesitant handling of the IRC fiasco really left something to be desired, especially a bad taste in the mouth of Sushichan and Uboachan users who I think used to be closer to this board. There have been many potential wake-up calls to be had here, but the best thing you can do is keep quality posting. This place doesn't need any more bad PR.
