they don't care. absolutely nothing in >>844 was taken into consideration when making the boards. whoever happens to have appleman1234's ear at the time is what we get. so sick of "we listen to the community" bullsoykaf. by giving "everyone" what they want at the end of the day *none* of us get what we want. no one asked for this clusterfuck of a board list. a brief survey of /q/ at the time makes it pretty obvious. but don't listen to me, a pony for everyone!

>>2904 It looks like all lainchan.jp related threads have been censored as >>2900 said. There are recent posts in them but they haven't been bumped so that means they've been saged. It makes us look desperate even when we shouldn't be. We have 10x the activity of their website and that isn't going to change anytime soon. There is nothing they can do about it. Censoring discussion of them just makes us needlessly look bad. I don't think it was a wise decision whoever did it.
Appleman1234 · 2017-05-12 16:22
>>2905 So >>2900 is referring to the bump lock and the bump lock alone ? As far as I know there hasn't be any censorship of the threads mentioned. The only actions taken regarding locking and bumplocking lainchan.jp related threads on /q/ was to consolidate them, e.g. not have 50 different posts complaining about lainchan.jp on lainchan.org.
Molly Millions · 2017-05-12 16:26
>>2907 That is simply not true and you know it. It wasn't done for consolidation. If it were, there would be at least one thread that isn't saged. It was done for censorship. You can't talk your way out of this. At least own it. You'd be respected more.

some people hate .org some people hate .jp .org keeps all the traffic, but gets even more soykaf brewery than before the big flush. .jp gets little traffic, but retains its quality. there is literally nothing new about this, it's how it's always been with big sites and niches of those sites. the only difference is that .jp is the same medium, and not an irc room or similar complementing .org
Marly Krushkhova · 2017-05-18 01:14

Unspecified · 2017-05-18 03:46
>>3225 Let's be honest, the only difference in quality has been people spamming threads about .jp. We've had all sorts of lies and attempts to put pressure on the mod team and people generally keeping this whole pan of soykaf brewing. Here's the real question, what were they hoping to achieve here? Who looks at something like this and thinks "the best thing for me to do is go and brew soykaf. That'll help." People aren't blind or stupid and kalyx promptly joining IRC to complain about his friends /q/ post makes me wonder how much they even bothered to hide it. You don't make people like you by fuarrrking things up so much they want to leave. What was so wrong with this community that warrants that? We didn't dislike the admin enough? This guy >>3214 has it right. The communities have split now. That's not to say there's not a connection between them but they're not the same. There are people distinctly on one side or another. You can't have the sort of hostility we've seen without that happening, but a lot of people just don't care. Any interest they had has faded. I've heard about your site about 30 thousand times. That's great I'm happy for you. Would you please stop trying to fuarrrk with our day? 'Cos it's really not helping anyone. Do you honestly expect people to believe that after weeks there's still a steady stream of people just jumping to ask the same tired questions and, of course, always someone there to give them an answer like yours? Or that so many people were repeatedly unable to find this thread in the catalog? Now, that's not to say that you specifically (i.e. the poster I'm replying to) are dishonest. You can't really judge a single post like that but, overall, something very fishy has been going on here. Still, we should worry about us. ShiIl hunts every time someone makes a complaint aren't the way forwards. All the "fuarrrk off back to jp" stuff doesn't really help anyone either. Just let them be. If you think they're being honest treat them as such but if not just ignore them. If the thread spam keeps up we might want to do something to stop them clogging up /mega/ but other than that there's not really a way to force them to stop and trying just adds fuel to the fire. It's a little annoying, especially for the mods who actually have to clean it up outside /q/, but you can't really stop people if they insist on being obnoxious on the internet.

Why is there all this animosity? I only really started paying attention to lainchan on the whole after all this soykaf went down so I might not have the complete story here. I get that there was a bit of a soykafstorm with the administration which resulted in the split, but I don't get why the users are so invested in fighting "the other side", taking them down, getting all the affiliates etc. From the user's perspective there's just 2 sites with a similar focus and community. >>3382 >>3383 >I don't know where this meme comes from. Kalyx did not hack the website. This was not some elaborate plan. This is what actually happened: >Appleman1234 never changed the email address or password on the control panel for the VPS on which lainchan.org is hosted. He should have done so immediately after purchasing the site. When he needed to log in to the control pane (after seven months of not having done so once), but couldn't, he requested a password reset, which was sent to Kalyx as it was his email that was still listed on the account. If Appleman1234 had changed the email and password as he should have, the server would have never been reset. If Appleman1234 had taken backups as he should have, the website would have been restored immediately. I guess no one knows this because Appleman1234 is embarrassed to admit his gross incompetence. >Disappointed with the decline of the website following the sale to Appleman1234, which he now considers a mistake, Kalyx used the password reset email as an opportunity to log in and reset the server. It was a protest of what lainchan.org had become since the sale of the website. Nothing more. Nothing less. Perhaps he wouldn't have done so had he known that Appleman1234 was so incompetent as to not have backups. So despite what you say, Kalyx is not exclusively responsible for the loss of content on lainchan.org. By comparison if our server were reset, the website would be back to normal in less than an hour. Barely anyone would even notice. >To suggest that the reset of the server was related to the creation of this website is to suggest that we knew ahead of time that Appleman1234 didn't change the password or email on the hosting account, that he didn't take backups, and that he would send out a password reset request to Kalyx's email account. Even if this were somehow magically possible, why would we only begin working on this website weeks after the reset had already taken place? After some of our staff made a genuine effort to help lainchan.org recover after the reset? >In a way we take it as a complement that people are convinced that the two events must somehow be related. I guess they can't believe how so little could change in the seven months following Appleman1234's purchase of the site, how little progress there was after the reset of the server, and yet we could somehow create and launch this entire website in about a day. If anything that is a testament to the amount of bureaucracy at lainchan.org. >tl;dr: If we knew ahead of time that Kalyx could reset the server and wanted to nefariously use this to our advantage, we would have made this website before, not weeks after the reset. If Appleman1234 had changed the password and email, all of us would still be on lainchan.org. Think about it. This is not some elaborate conspiracy. This website is a legitimate response to legitimate problems with lainchan.org. If all that is true, it's pretty damning.

That is that he had forgotten the password and no longer had access to the email account used to reset it. Obviously this was a lie. He let it go as he didn't really need access to the accountand it's not a security problem because even if he does still have access it's only kalyx. If we look at who is at lainchan.jp compared to who left on lainchan.org we clearly can see what happened. Apple was used as a cash cow by kalyx. The old lainchan peeps have formed their own circle inside lainchan, forming their own little schemes and plans. I don't blame kalyx for taking thw opportunity to make money off of stupid people and then trying to get back and make the same site. What I am perplexed by is his possy. The people around him that follow him wherever he goes without sevond thought. I went to lainchan.jp and even though it's slow site there is much less bickering (partially because everyone knows each other there). But, why did the bedrock that is lainchan leave org and went to jp? That should be the main question here

The .jp issue is for, about and by moderators, the community isn't attached to it. Imagine that politicians fight for some personal reason, the population won't give a soykaf, but the governors will surely appeal to the population and say that "they are only splitting the party for our people in need of a better government!". It's a cheap, ego-stroking move to validate their own egoistical decisions.
Ivan Petrov · 2017-06-05 13:56
>>3564 >The .jp issue is for, about and by moderators, the community isn't attached to it. Yeah. Because running lainchan is such a position of influence and power! It's a tiny ass image board. If they just want ego-stroking, this isn't the way to go about it. And where is this ego-stroking going on? Their IRC? Their boards? Our IRC? Our boards? I don't see it. What is lainchan.jp? An image board. Where people post. That's it.
Cypher · 2017-06-05 15:10
>>3567 That's objectively misleading. Does a teacher have influence and power? Of course not, does that stop him/her from abusing the small power he/she has to feel in control? The same concept applies to doorkeepers, guards, police officers and, last but not least, forum moderators, community managers, game masters and even the dungeon master from your d&d group. My point is that .jp wasn't created because the community was outraged and wanted a different imageboard. If it was, our posts per hour would be at the very least a fraction of what they were prior to .jp. Jp was created because the mods wanted more control/power and they weren't getting it (as you can see by the logs in this thread), thus it's objectively a mod issue, not a user issue. Even if kalyx handn't fuarrrked up the website, .jp would probably be created sooner or later.

Maybe they thought so, and i was never a mod nor part of the administrative team so i can't say if they were right or wrong to think that way. The point is that this was an internal issue, not a community issue. Every complaint i heard from .jp staff about appleman were either "he wasn't doing what i wanted when i wanted him to" or "he's autistic xDD". Both of which are quite childish. I hated dealing with kalyx because i honestly hate his personality, but i couldn't use that to criticize him because it's just subjective preference, i'm not able to successfully deal with him, others were, thus it's my problem, not a community problem. >the way the site is staffed, managed and moderated affects end-users immensely. Once again, i agree with the statement. but lainchan was and is staffed, managed and moderated in a way that doesn't get in the way of us users. Could it be better? surely, but is it as bad as it was when kalyx was at the height of his personal issues? nowhere near. /civ/ era was much, much worse than what we have now, and we seem to be improving in a good way, so unless you have specific criticism towards the current administration, i can't really see where you're coming from. What basis is there for the community to care so much about an administrative issue, when this administrative issue doesn't have a lot of impact on the community? From my point of view, mods had some internal problems and decided to split, the IB is as good as it ever was, and has the same flaws that it has always had.

>>3580 >Really? Pull your head out of your ass. Perhaps you don't hear it because you don't want to to be challenged by their criticism, but they explicitly specify their reasons time and time again: Every complaint i heard =/= every complaint there is. I'm not .org staff nor .jp staff, there is no reason for me to go out of my way to research. Pointing your fallacies doesn't make me a defender of .org. Saying that you're full of soykaf doesn't imply that appleman isn't full of soykaf too. As for these links: >Neglect of critical services and backups >lack of priorities and accountability >gross inaction and incompetence Generic criticism isn't exactly an argument, all of these qualities could be attributed to kalyx and seph. That is not to say that appleman is immune to them, but without a specific scenario upon which he can be attributed to these qualities, there is nothing for me to refute, i cannot refute the general concept of 'accountability'. "gross inaction" isn't a complaint, inaction where, what did he not do? Lack of priorities where, what is he priorizing? Accountability when, what did he do? Can't you see how generic and meaningless this is unless you a list a specific situation where that happened? The only valid criticism is towards his password fuarrrk up, which i totally agree, he fuarrrked up. But does that justify .jp behavior (constant shiIl compaign, vandalizing this website time and time again)? Not really. That's laying the blame on the victim, and the worst part is that the victim isn't even appleman, he could go fuarrrk himself for all i care, the victim is the community that you say you care so much about. If the community was unhappy with lainchan, shouldn't the existence of .jp be enough for people to switch over if they were actually unsatisfied? Did you really need to fuarrrk this website? (and i'm not including kalyx fuarrrkup, thats on him alone). You have a problem of dealing with absolutes, as if there was only "lainchan.jp is perfect" or "lainchan.org is perfect", both of which are wrong. Not only that but you have no points to raise, the posts you linked don't say anything besides what i had already said, aka it's an administrative issue that users don't give much of a soykaf about. I know i don't. If you want to raise this sort of issue, mention the specific scenario upon which this characteristic was attributed to him, otherwise this is no better than namecalling, and i cannot refute namecaling. Also don't be fooled by the idea that i'm defending appleman or .org, if you raise valid issues i will agree with you, we have our problems, many of them, but what you're doing is just nitpicking. I'm not saying this community and administration is perfect, i'm saying that i'm fine with it and the reasons you're using to justify .jp and it's actions upon our community are full of soykaf (for the reasons aforementioned). I never said anything to you without argumentation or justification behind it, you on the other hand have been suggesting and implying, what type of conversation do you hope to accomplish exactly?
