Can we have a post-editing-like feature?
Not editing-per-se, but automation of the process of deleting a post and making a new one with minor changes. You make your edits, click "edit" and the server deletes your old post, and creates a new one, just like you would manually.
Roger Pollack · 2017-05-11 16:45
>>2861
>and the server deletes your old post, and creates a new one
Maybe this is just me not understanding image boards but why would you need to delete your old post to edit it? In SQL a query like UPDATE posts SET text='apple' WHERE id=123 would solve this in one go.
Anyhow, I'm in favor of having this feature, sure could come in handy.
Marly Krushkhova · 2017-05-11 18:43

Because it's not interesting for people to edit their posts in the normal fashion in an imageboard.
I say bananas, you say i said bananas, i edit my post for tomatoes. Now all the world knows you're a big fat liar and a nanana lover. It's just an undesirable feature for imageboards, deleting is more final.

I know this won't be popular (this is a cyberpunk based imageboard afterall), but I'd like it if posting ID's were instituted for the duration that this drama between .jp and .org is going on.
It would make it alot easier to see if the the drama is just fabricated by one or two lainons repeatedly posting about how much .jp is like kicking dead whales down the beach, or if there is real concern among the community.
Ideally a temporary thing until all this soykaf blows over.
Ivan Petrov · 2017-05-12 05:53

I think that would only create more drama if the reason was for .jp specifically. IDs as a general concept are ok tho.

>I know this won't be popular
>It would make it alot easier to see if the the drama is just fabricated by one or two lainons repeatedly posting about how much .jp is like kicking dead whales down the beach, or if there is real concern among the community.
Or it might also prove that "jp did nothing wrong" is pushed by the same people over and over again. Or it would, if they weren't using tor to post (or log in, like Junk).
IDs aren't a bad idea, but it would only identify people that do not bother to change identities, because there are not here to push a narrative, but to express their concern.

Having browser notifications would be neat. You pin a few threads, whenever someone posts you get notified in your browser.
Appleman1234 · 2017-05-16 01:34
>>3119
We already have thread-watcher.js , though it doesn't have notifications.
Does https://github.com/lainchan/lainchan/blob/master/js/watch.js do what you are asking ?
watch.js was removed from the configuration because it caused some other things to break, but that can be troubleshooted and fixed.

Yep, that's even better than what i suggested. That way you only need to open one lainchan page to check all threads you're a part of. Notifications would vanish after a few seconds, this systems lets you get away from the computer, come back and quickly check your stuff.

Can we remove /q/ from /mega/?
Lainchan is comfy, /q/ kills the comfy. Whoever has something to say about meta subjects can come on /q/ and say it, it doesn't belong on /mega/ at all. It's just out of place there.
Every single low quality post comes from here. Not only that but having /q/ on /mega/ makes it more appealing for nonfat-soykaf drinkers to come here for attention, since they know they'll get derezzed in other boards.

Whenever people are responding to a post where that post is responding to another post they have to annotate their post at the top with something like:
[I am not the person youre responding to]
That gets tedious, there should be a feature where you can flag your post as not being the same person as the one their post is responding to.

Burying criticism isn't going to help Lainchan, though. First off, it's just going to spill into other boards. Second, people would be (rightfully) pissed off.
We already removed /q/ from /mega/, anything past that would be, like >>4028 said, blatant censorship.
Agent Jones · 2017-06-18 15:24
>>4042
No. Censorship would be permanently deleting /q/. Removing it from the navbar will just let things cool down. It doesn't prevent people from going there.
Cowboy · 2017-06-18 15:32
>>4028
/q/ is specifically for complaints, if anyone is interested in reading about it, they can come here. There's more traffic than usual with low quality posts, since /q/ cannot be moderated as well as other boards.
Doesn't make any logical sense to include /q/ on mega, otherwise most posts on mega would be from /q/, not only that but these posts would have far, far less moderation and thus not reflect what lainchan is.

Remember the outrage, when the top bar was made display:none in CSS, because I remember.
Thanks for your suggestion, by the way, but /q/ was already removed from /mega/ and /megaq/ was also made for those that want it.
A client side board list alias that hides /q/ from the top bar can also be made, but it won't be on by default, as per the previous statements of opt-in changes by default.

i'm sorry if this is the wrong thread, but i didn't really know where to put this.
this is a simple comment for lainchan.
i'm a newbie newt but i love the site. i swear i won't cancer it up, i'll mostly only lurk, but if i'll ever post, it'll be where it needs to be posted, and how it needs to be posted, with regards to rules and community guidelines.
i wanted to say that for the few hours that i've spent browsing, i have realized that lainchan is something precious. we must do what we can to preserve it and keep it alive for the years to come. if i had money, i'd donate.
i only have one question; some people said that the site was better in older times. how true is this ? how was lainchan some years back ?
it's probably someone complaining in the same way on how 4chan's /b/ used to be so great or something.
i come flowing from 8chan, by the way.
so, everything is said, i'm already enjoying the place, and if you think i'm an annoyance, i'll only ever lurk, promise.

Feel free to suggest resources and I'll peruse them to see if they're suitable. I don't particularly use this manner of resource much.
One option I'm strongly considering is locating the main online documentation for many languages and providing mainly this manner of links in such a sticky.
The sticky can be amended as time goes on, to correct omissions.

>One option I'm strongly considering is locating the main online documentation for many languages and providing mainly this manner of links in such a sticky.
Wouldn't that be a little redundant though? The main documentation is usually the first thing anyone goes to. I think a list of resources should be less implicit, things a beginner wouldn't know about, generally useful resources for programmers, specially beginners.
What i think about when i think of resources for programmers is basically what you would find on /g/ or any github "awesome list"

Once upon a time, there was a little pirate boat, and the crew was happy, even if the captain jacked off in public a bit more than was deemed acceptable even among pirates.
One day the captain sold his ship to a rich cowboy for a whole chest of gold and snuck out with all his officers at night, while everyone was sleeping, without telling the crew. But on the way out they set the ship on fire and put holes in all the lifeboats, because that was hilarious. The new captain was a little bit eccentric, and insisted on taking all the lanterns away below decks and taking the labels off all the supplies and cargo, he said, to stop the rats in the hold from knowing what to eat. But rats can't read anyway, and the crew never knew if they were opening a barrel of rum, or oil, or water, or gunpowder, so as you can imagine there was quite a muddle and even talk of a mutiny, and the new captain said they were all too stupid to understand his thought process, which didn't win him any fans either, I can tell you. In the meantime the old captain and his officers had built a fine new ship with the same name that looked very pretty, and they shot holes in the old ship with their cannons and wondered why the crew on the old ship were angry with them, so they shot them some more, and wondered why the old crew wouldn't join them on their shiny new ship no matter how much they shot them, and it was a big job trying to keep the big new empty ship going with only officers and no crew.
Finally the old captain and his officers got tired of shooting at the old ship, changed their ship's name, hauled anchor, and sailed away, and no-one ever heard from them again, and people say they wrecked the ship and all had to eat each other.
And the old crew patched up the old ship and kept sailing, even though the new captain was still a complete madman, he'd locked himself in his cabin and wouldn't come out so they could hang him from the yard arm, make him walk the plank, keelhaul him, or any of the other things pirates like to do with friends with unpopular opinions. So they just kept sailing around and around in circles, and people say they still are to this day.

Sorry, I thought this was a different thread on /q/. Regardless, Lain does store IP addresses for the sake of bans and post history, and that is considered personal data due to IP addresses being considered an "online identifier" by the gdpr, however silly that is.
I ask because some autist could very well hit this site with a fine, and I don't think either of us would want that.
Unspecified · 2018-05-27 18:15
>>5515
>that is considered personal data due to IP addresses being considered an "online identifier"
Nope. There's been no ruling that IP addresses are "online identifiers." Quite the opposite, they do not map to a natural person (but instead to a network) so they don't count on that score. More than that they're explicitly mentioned like two paragraphs later, to quote the regulation:
"Also, written answers from a test-taker and any remarks from the test about these answers are “personal data” if the test-taker can be theoretically identified. The same also applies to IP addresses. If the processor has the legal option to oblige the provider to publish additional information which can identify the user who is behind the IP address, this is also personal data."
Our posts are totally anonymous and therefore we're fine.

Has the CSS recently been updated? Everything started looking quite small today. Looking at the rules, it seems that text size is defined in pixels rather than points (body#thread { font-size: 12 px } in dark.css). I think defining sizes in px is usually considered bad practice by webdevs.
Can this be changed? I think a simple find stylesheets -iname "*.css" -exec sed -i 's/font-size:\s*\([0-9]\+\)\s*px/font-size: \1pt/' '{}' ';' would be enough. In fact it's what I did and it resulted in the attached patch and this looks alright to me (I removed the diffs for the minified files though as the changes were hard to inspect).

I browse Lainchan in catalog view like a normal human being and catalog view is missing a feature that 4chan has which is to click on a thread and have it open in a new tab. And then there is another option to automatically switch to that tab. I dont like having to click the back button to get back to catalog view when I can just close the tab and continue where I was in catalog view.

Lainchan should have a /showcase/ board for plugging projects or art that lainons have created. The projects should only be small-mid size, and they should already have a significant amount of work done. Commercial projects would not be allowed on this board.

It's true that we have "what are you working on" threads, but those usually only contain daily toy projects that lainons are working on. A showcase board would be very low traffic, and would function more as a way to inspire users by showing them what other users have created.

I'm trying to get an instance of lainchan up and running on OpenBSD so I can configure it before I try and set up my own website with it, yet I keep getting this script puke from when I try and run the php install script. The only error I can get in the box that the installer gives me besides the scribbles on the rest of the page is or saying that it can't remove a certain file. Any help? It says in the OpenBSD ports that mbstring is included inside the PHP library by default. I've also tried this on Devuan, Void, and Gentoo and I've run into the same issue.

There isn't really much to say about this. I think replacing the word "Catalog" in the GUI with "Datalog" would be an aesthetically-appropriate change in line with the language enhancer, etc., that would still essentially retain the previous meaning (and most of the spelling) but with a cyberpunk flair, and I'm assuming that this would be a quick and relatively painless alteration.

I am currently considering the best way to implement this, and what other side effects of implementing it there are.
E.g. Yes I realise to you it is only changing one letter.
But there are several different options under the covers ? One it is change it client side using a toggle in the options menu and have that either default or not default.
Another is to the just change it server side everywhere blanket (naive approach), but more that just changing it in the template files, because there are other places the identifier catalog is used.
Another is to just change it in the template files server side hard.
And the last option that comes to mind is making a configurable change server side , that also may or may not impact the current URL generation.
Other things to consider are changing the layout and structure of the catalog pages so they look more like a datalog.
For these reasons, I haven't come to a decision yet, so the answer is probably Yes, but not immediately, thanks for your patience.

Actually, if there's enough motivation on the part of our team here, I suggest a long-term, expanded program of aesthetic alterations with the goal of cementing lainchan's status as its own unique community. I remember the feeling I had when I first encountered the language enhancer. It was bizarre and fresh, and it gave me the feeling that I'd stumbled upon a special place. Aesthetics are important in the sense that they have associations. If the site looks like 4chan, people will treat it like 4chan. If the site looks like only lainchan looks, people will treat it like lainchan. Someone in another thread mentioned the broken window effect, where a slight cosmetic blemish causes people to see something as an acceptable target for vandalism. Interestingly, I've heard that it works the other way; painting the New York subway system caused vandalism rates to decrease. I'm fresh out of specific ideas to implement, though, so hopefully the community can help me out.

Don't know where else to put this, but when you use the lainchan banner script with vichan the banner appears on the front page too, even if you only place the lines in the config.php of the boards, not the global config.php. After much experimentation, the way to solve this is to remove the banners are rebuild only the theme. This might just a problem with vichan, or I might just be retarded.

Say, is anyone interested in starting a Laintube at Cytube?
It's an ersatz Synchtube, users can post videos and chat realtime in a text window, as named users or anons.
There used to be a Taimatube channel for 420chan, as an appendix to the /b/ board, with a link on the header showing what was playing, but Kirt deleted the link because after ignoring its presence for years, he suddenly realised he didn't know any of the mods. To avoid that happening here, I suggest Appleman be involved from the beginning and appoint his own mods, especially if we want a live link to the Tube.
I think Lainons have so much in common in terms of interest in media like anime and music, and the cyberpunk philosophy, that it'd expand board culture and interaction.
Unless Apple has beef with Cytube, like he does with Volafile? I keep missing the dramas, so I never know what's going on until afterwards.

Lainstore has not launched yet. I am still behind schedule and currently working on the API specification for the primary vendor.
Additionally I am working on sourcing several secondary vendors for the plushie demand that was mentioned at the Annual General Meeting.
What was launched on the 20th of April was a Sticker Gallery https://lainchan.org/stickers.html with the list of past stickers / designs that will be available for eventual purchase , as well as the ability for lainons to submit their own designs.
Most of this information was announced during the AGM, but I still haven't received the recordings from others that took them in order to write up and post up the transcripts yet.
When Lainstore launchs, there will be a message in the global header (where the Mumble server is now) and an announcement on the news page.

Report low-quality posts, even if a specific rule is not broken. Sometimes threads just escape the notice of the mods. You can help correct that.
Zero Cool · 2019-06-03 01:03
I would like some sort of "crackdown" on rule 3 violations. I'm not sure what I'm proposing, precisely, but I'm getting pretty tired of seeing them. I'm open to suggestions from anyone who feels similarly and thinks they have a good idea. It really may be as simple as just emphasizing it in the rules list or somehow reporting that a post has been deleted for a rule 3 violation so people will see that it's taken seriously. On the other hand, it could be as heavy-handed as one warning and then a ban. I'm not suggesting that all rules be enforced this way, but the timely and effective enforcement of rule 3 is, I think, critically important for the health of the site (but I've been known to overreact), it's not a terribly difficult rule to follow, and it's obviously reasonable. It's possible that you're already doing everything you can, but it seems to be getting more common.

This is arguably covered under rule 3, but I would like a more explicit rule against posting things that boil down to "This thread is dumb and I don't like it" within the thread. It's ok to say that you believe the OP's premises to be flawed in relation to some concept, etc., but explicit or near-explicit anti-thread-topic posting amounts to obvious derailment. It's essentially the opposite of contributing. If you believe that a thread doesn't suit the site or the board it's on, you can report it. If it doesn't suit your personal preferences, you can ignore it. The kind of posting that I'm talking about, however, has a way of stopping discussion in its tracks, especially when others follow suit to say "I agree that this thread is dumb, and I don't like it, either." I still support protesting a thread on /q/, but in-thread posting of this kind bothers me. If you won't rewrite the rules for this, I would at least like confirmation that it falls under an existing rule or else an explicit statement that these kinds of posts will be allowed.
Appleman1234 · 2019-07-04 18:44
>>6374
Expressing
"This thread is dumb and I don't like it "is a valid opinion to have for any given thread.
However only posting as such is the definition of Rule 4 violation because You should always elaborate on your opinions rather than just spilling the soykaf.
Thread topic change is fine, though some what annoying, but thread derailment where the topic is changed and then posting either stops entirely because the discussion is now closed or the quality discussion / posting stops because the derailed topic is either a closed topic or not elaborated on by subsequent posters generally results in a thread being deleted.
In terms of cases were elaboration and reasoning are provided, then given the aforementioned
"This thread is dumb and I don't like it " and here is why conversation, is also a potential rule 3 violation if the arguments are personal attacks or are generally either directly biased in the interests of not having a discussion or in the form of anything below Counterargument in the first attached image are Rule 3 violations
Always argue in good faith and avoid using personal attacks.
It is also a potential Rule 4 violation if they don't leave the thread open for discussion, unless it was a terrible thread that was full of Rule 4 violations anyway, in which you can report a thread or request for it to be locked on /q/.

Thank you for your typically thorough reply. I'm glad you've clarified your position. Although my mentioning that gladness constitutes the briefer part of this post, I am truly enthused to have received the sort of response I was requesting.
By your own "argument hierarchy" image, I would suggest that the kind of posting I was referring to falls under the heading of "meta-debate" or something sufficiently similar. It is essentially starting a new thread referring to the original. I don't want to make this discussion too philosophical or abstract, but I think the distinction is largely clear. I suppose that if you advocate for organic thread topic development this poses no problems, but I'm not sure that I see the appeal of an intensely self-oriented thread in terms of discussion quality. I see my "argument" (these thoughts are perhaps to loosely constructed to constitute a real one) as essentially the same argument behind having a meta board but applied on a smaller scale. We don't want /music/ (for instance) littered with posts about /music/, so why should we allow /music/ threads to be littered with posts about /music/ threads?
>Also smug anime girl face is just meme tier
I might suggest that this statement constitutes "social shaming" as currently constructed, although I'm now worried about what this response implies about how you received my overall post, given that other posts with "meme tier" images do not generally receive similar responses. It's a bit like how one tends to despise smaller imperfections in people they hate for larger reasons. I once visited a community that had a catch-all rule for banning those who didn't "fit in." I wonder whether I'm "fitting in" here. Anyway, I would also nitpick and say that it's not smug but irritated, as I was attempting to express frustration. I only really used it because I've noticed that my posts tend to be passed over without comment when I leave them without images, images which are presumably eye-catching, giving a post a "character" that serves to distinguish it from the typical text. Perhaps you will like the image on this post more, although I didn't put much effort into its selection either.
Appleman1234 · 2019-07-05 09:05
>>6376
You're welcome. The argument hierarchy isn't mine, I am merely reference various adaptions of Maslow's hierarchy of needs for internet discussion, critique in the general concept of critical literacy and the specific concept of one's professor feedback to students writing essays and another diagram that tries to organize various types of arguments.
Meta-debate discussion of specific posts / threads happens on /q/ and for general conceptual meta discussions they may also be appropriate on /r/ and as well as /q/.
That said you can discuss about the concepts of one /music/ thread in another /music/ thread.
It wasn't intended as social shaming, rather a literal description of the variations of the pyramids I posed in meme format, where the top level was a smug anime girl face, e.g. it was intended as a quote and a pun.
Other images don't normally get commented on by me unless people ask me what I think of them, I tend to spoiler and delete images more than commenting on them.
This community doesn't ban people for not fitting in, just for rule violations. I don't know if you are fitting in here or not.

Regarding new board creation, before any new board is made there needs to be at least a page or two of decent threads on the topic the board is supposed to be about on /r/, if your thread / threads don't get enough interest on /r/, then there is not enough demand for the proposed board.

Most of the lainchan administration team, just do Lainchan administration e.g. moderate and administer the board or IRC or Lainchan Radio. Some staff do contribute to the implementation of suggestions and new features like Lainstore and others, but it isn't an obligation that requires you to be staff to help or contribute, as per the helping thread. How can I take your meaning ? All I know is that the vast majority of people that have typed or said with all due respect, have rarely been sincere because if they were sincere, they would have thought about their choice of words and omitted those words from their statement, as the level of respect is generally evident by the care of the word choice and the words they chose to say and the words they chose to omit.
If this was a trash can it wouldn't be still sticked and instead would have posts deleted or this thread would be locked, instead of the ideas slowly and gradually being implemented. There is forward momentum, but it like me is slow and steady and I don't recall it being any other way , since I joined here, I remember stories of long ago when people supposedly wanted to help my predecessor but I don't know if there was more "forward momentum" then or not.
Regarding the Lainstore, yes I have been dragging my feet, and yes I should just publish the AGM recording and piecemeal transcription by next weekend, and start going back to working on Lainstore little by little each weekend and I will do that, but at the same time I didn't receive any feedback on the existing sticker gallery or any new suggestions for possible stickers or any other feedback, other than people asking is the store ready yet....

>>6581 (about the donation page)
>Being staff is currently a volunteer position, without mandatory working hours. When asked on such staff member suggested their fake billing rate or actual billing rate if Lainchan was a paid gig, would be $1000 USD per month.
It wouldn't have to be pay by hour, or even pay by project. I figured that it would be volunteer-run. What could be set-up is some sort of system that splits the donations some way. Albeit that there are no donations now, it might be useful for when there are. Something to look in to. Perhaps automated contract enforcement software (e.g. what some call "smart contracts") could make this easier. (E.g. first of whatever donations would go towards paying those who must be paid (the server host), and then split among the volunteers some way (e.g. if there's some way of figuring it out, based on the value of the volunteers' contributions; or equally).)
Appleman1234 · 2019-10-06 21:06
>>6617
Thanks for the suggestion. Automated contract enforcement software makes this harder, rather than easier. As per the previous post, figuring out value of the contributors requires metrics and metrics setup requires tracking and a conversion scheme and a conversion scheme leads to culture change because people then do actions to get the fiscal reward rather than just focusing on being good volunteers.
Currently if we did become a non profit, and were running at a surplus where there was excess funds, the easiest solution would just be some sort of annual present with a fixed budget based on some split, e.g. a mandated Secret Santa program, but even that would require some planning and some information distribution that doesn't exist.

You could enable multiple file uploads without javascript by duplicating the file input element statically and naming them "file", "file2", and "file3". The javascript just dynamically inserts the extra elements.
On the client side, you can use the browser's inspector to edit the html in place. Press ctrl-shift-i, then select the file input in the page, right click the line in the code window, duplicate node, double-click the names and change them.

I was looking at the comics board at REDACTED SITE, and they have a button to embed a video at the end of a linked address, if having all those videos on screen is a problem, you could do something similar.

We already have embedded webm, what other video formats did you want us to support ?
Currently the main reason we don't do video embedding is to do with ensuring user base gets to decide if hosting provider for said videos gets to track them or not .

Well, I suppose I would still want people to be able to discuss the concept if they wished, but I want to neuter its use as an insult and basically hide its use in general. If new users come here and see that posters are flinging "incel" at one another, it sends a message about the kind of place this is, and those new users will respond to that. It's like that old claim that painting houses prevents vandalism because people see things in decline and think of them as acceptable targets. Of course, we have a rule against using insults in general, but the mods have recently admitted that they can't keep up with rule 3 violations in real time.

Ok, so apparently I'm foolish enough to come back and argue after all, but I guess that has something to do with the fact that I'm campaigning for a cause; I maintain that your posts have a self-defeating quality and am posting for the benefit of the moderators and those who would be swayed perhaps more than I am responding to you. I'd like to note that "glitterboy" is presumably a reference to a class of power armor in the RPG Rifts, thus making it a cyber-appropriate euphemism. In my view, the word filter accomplishes these goals:
1.) It contributes to a sense of unique site culture for both old and new users.
2.) It removes the sting of insults in accordance with rule 3, which states that users are to avoid personal attacks and demonstrates a larger concern on the part of the site's moderation for removing insults from site discourse.
3.) It strips certain cultural aspects from charged language so as to prevent both reaction posting under conditions of suppressed critical faculties (relates to point 2) and certain classes of new users coming to the conclusion that this is a "compromised" website which is suitable either for soykafposting or for the dissemination of propaganda (relates to point 1). In other words, it improves post quality from those who read the filtered posts.
Whether these perceived benefits are intended or merely incidental, I do not know. Further, I do not know whether these perceived benefits actually work as I think they do. Still, according to the above, I will motion again for my agenda, which I will restate in bold below in order to prevent it from being lost in the shuffle of posts.

While i'm not one to defend 13 year olds who base their entire political insight from atlas shrugged, we cannot ban an entire subculture. First of all because that's impossible and we've seen that in the old /civ/ board. You ban their words, they change the words, you take away their board, they derail all threads outside of that board.
So we must instead look to ban the problematic aspects that the incel/ancap/ayn rand/MGTOW culture brings. For me, the problem with that crowd is that they have very little knowledge on pretty much any subject, but they have extreme faith in that tiny slice of knowledge, so what happens is that when they come to a thread, they don't come to have a conversation (exchange of ideas between two parties), they come with rules: "This is how the world works, if you disagree, i will be a pedantic asshole until you're tired of replying".
This behavior (prevalent in /hum/ for example) is, for me, not something desirable in this community. So sure, that we can ban and warn against. But an entire subculture is unbannable.
Sabo Engle · 2020-04-29 13:02

I have not been around for a long time. I was not happy with the childish split and sabotage. I lost the momentum and position on the zine after that.
Looking at them again on here, they need a presentation recommendation/qualifier posted on the page or somewhere near the downloads...
These 2 issues were designed primarily for print, as such they are setup to be viewed as spreads (2 pages at the same time, as an open book). This will result in a far more balanced and comprehend-able visual layout.
If you could recommend people to download the PDFs and set acrobat (ect) to "view: page display: two page view" Also make sure "show cover page in two page view" is checked on. - Then view full screen.
This will result in a much nicer viewing experience (phone users with weak eyes be damned!).
I hope all is well with you and Lainchan...

Why does everyone insist on showing us photographs of text, instead of text?

Because this chan has retarded text formatting and is painful to read anything longer than 7-word sentence on default styling?

Can we have a optional or enforced site-wide href / HTTP refer-er switch? I don't like the idea of links posted here being linked back to lain.
A lot of imageboards already do this.

Any word on this?

language enhancer suggestion: wage slave -> stick it up the hole in your culture; I think I've seen it a few times around here already. Of course, I don't mean to stick it up the hole in your culture or anything.

Restricting to LaTeX is draconic. Let me use my own TeX macros. If you wanna use LaTeX, you can specify it, but we should be free to choose any other macros, or put our own definitions.

Oh, nevermind. ``s h i l l'' is already enhanced.

Do mods have archives/backups of threads which can get bumped off when someone tries to flood?

Or it could also be done by making board pages twice as long, but then simply hiding the second bottom half from users. That way whenever a thread is deleted, another thread which was previously bumped off rises from the nether. However, that thread would've still been innacessible and 404'd before it rose up.

The threads that were bumped off due to flooding / spam , are in the process of being recovered from the latest backup where possible.
Other solutions to prevent automation deletion of threads from flooding are being investigated
