All you degenerate idiots need to face reality, and I'll sum it all up for you in a single post, knowing that most of the entire community is now gathered here on /q/. Look at /q/. Just look at it. Look at the amount of activity it has. Now look at the top of the screen where the nav bar is. You see that? /q/ is literally the only board that is up right now publicly. Now look at how many posts have been made within the first day that the site was wiped by Kalyx; The number doesn't even break a thousand, and that's knowing that every single lainon worldwide has gathered to the only board left out of THIRTEEN previous boards. That number of posts is disgustingly low. The community of lainons is small, and that is a fact you cannot deny. So do you ever wonder why the kalyx and his incestuous pool of moderators with him have agreed to make thirteen different boards, despite the small number of individuals? Moderation Moderation Moderation Moderation Appeasement Appeasement Appeasement Appeasement That's why. And I wonder, why aren't the mods attacking and criticizing kalyx openly on /q/ right now? There are only a select few rational lainons doing it. But all we hear from Appleman and the other moderators are, "Oh, I don't know why he did it. Maybe it was a prank?" Something along the lines of that. But the reality is that it's obvious why kalyx did it: It's because kalyx was and currently is a sick man. Everyone who knows his from the old days of lainchan knows how sick and twisted he is always has been in his personal life. The old friends he had when lainchan first started don't even communicate with him anymore. He's a sick man and he lashed out at us (true lainons) in order to get a kick out of it. So why doesn't Appleman tell us the truth about it? I'll tell you why: It's because Appleman likes what kalyx has created here and doesn't want to make him look too much like a villain. Like kalyx, Appleman wants to keep the insane amount of moderation here and the insane kind of structure that lainchan has, a structure that isn't even supported by the proper size of a userbase. Appleman in this sense is just as controlling as kalyx was. And notice that there is even a sort of sickness to him too, as I quote from his stickied post, >I (Appleman1234) am also looking for people to help to moderate, administer and janitor the site and services, because whilst I can continue to do it alone, it is much less fun that way. read: >WHISLT I CAN CONTINUE TO DO IT ALONE What did he mean by this? Does this man honestly refuse to even acknowledge the moderators that have helped him make the site a better place after the kalyx administration? (A better place, assuming that the mods weren't just kalyx administration hold-overs who were also obsessed with the control and moderation of a small community). Or perhaps he is telling the truth, that he really did moderate this site all by himself and the identities of the previous moderators have been false? What the hell do we lainons make of this? These are concerning issues yet take a look at what 90% of the lainons are doing after their entire site has been wiped out; Instead of asking these questions, most lainons are putting in their own two cents on which thirteen boards should be put up again. Is that seriously what you guys are concerned about? How despicable is this? If you guys don't use this opportunity to take your site back now, then you never will.
Trinity · 2017-04-12 17:11
>>819 >neurosuggesting every lainon is posting now i guess many - like me - just wait until everything went bet to normal. you can't measure the quality of a chan on it's posting count.
Emmanuel · 2017-04-12 17:19
Your arguments don't make a lot of sense, nor can i identify what is it that you're trying to say. People don't have where to post, so most of them won't post. People often come to lainchan to have discussions, not to post le funny memes xD!. If there are no boards, there are no discussions. This community is small and it has always been, having different boards is just so people can post about different subjects without being derailed about "what is /cyb/". Kalyx is a piece of soykaf, the site owner is appleman, if he wants kalyx to moderate the site, kalyx will moderate the site. Him being a piece of soykaf or not. What do you mean "use this opportunity to take back the site"? Do you want people to go on kalyx's house and shoot him in the face? DDOS lainchan? Carry pitchforks and scream in front of appleman's residence? Make up your own mind of what you're even trying to say before you say it, otherwise it's just a waste of time.
Masami Eiri · 2017-04-12 17:22
>why aren't the mods attacking and criticizing kalyx openly on /q/ right now? What would that achieve? As for Appleman, that guy is a sage. If this were my site I'd have murdered everything in a 12 mile radius. He didn't even raise his voice. Just got to fixing it. >The old friends he had when lainchan first started don't even communicate with him anymore. Not true. >So why doesn't Appleman tell us the truth about it? Point out one place where he lied or hid the truth. Don't worry I'll wait. >What did he mean by this? He means what he says. It's not too much work for one guy (I don't know if I agree with him there), but he'd rather not do it alone. >Does this man honestly refuse to even acknowledge the moderators that have helped him make the site a better place after the kalyx administration? It doesn't say that. Reading comprehension. >Or perhaps he is telling the truth, that he really did moderate this site all by himself and the identities of the previous moderators have been false? Yeah that's totally sensible... >Is that seriously what you guys are concerned about? Nobody is concerned about the secret appleman conspiracy to convince us that there are mods who don't exist because that's really fuarrrking stupid. >>824 This. Most people are just waiting for business as usual. They don't care about the drama.

>>819 Kalyx being sick or not, having wiped the server on purpose, for fun or accidentally, it doesn't matter. Without proper backups, a simple electrical or mechanical failure could and probably would happen eventually and wipe out everything anyway. I'm a simple user and I don't know exactly who was the sysadmin responsible for the server in question (Appleman?), but the responsibility for data loss falls on the sysadmin.
Sipho Nkosi · 2017-04-12 17:26
>>824 Not once was the word "quality" mentioned in the OP. The point being made is that the structure of the chan did not fit the size of the userbase (it had 13 boards, specifically). Even if we were to assume that lainchan had a thousand unique individuals as a part of its userbase, thirteen boards is an insane amount of different sections of the chan to spread that amount of people in. And you have to remember, there are more people who either lurk or barely post anything than people who post regularly. It's obvious you're trying to twist the argument being made.

>And I wonder, why aren't the mods attacking and criticizing kalyx openly on /q/ right now? The IRC is a more appropriate place and I also have other tasks to carry out, such as helping to rebuild. >But all we hear from Appleman and the other moderators are, "Oh, I don't know why he did it. Maybe it was a prank?" He did it because he's a lowly idiot with a poor sense of humor. >Like kalyx, Appleman wants to keep the insane amount of moderation here and the insane kind of structure that lainchan has, a structure that isn't even supported by the proper size of a userbase. As do I, somewhat. I've been staff here exactly since the first anniversary and what do you think I'm? I'm a censor. That's strictly what online moderation is, asides from helping the community in other ways. If you don't want moderation, go to a different site. Many users have expressed satisfaction that someone can't waltz into a thread, throw around some garbage, and then ruin a discussion for everyone else. >What did he mean by this? Does this man honestly refuse to even acknowledge the moderators that have helped him make the site a better place after the kalyx administration? Of course not. He merely stated that he could moderate himself, albeit not as well, alone. Don't read so much into things. >If you guys don't use this opportunity to take your site back now, You don't seem to understand. The very structure of the WWW is that there will always be an owner. To think otherwise is stupid. Also, that simply seems out of place to write. I would've written a better response, but your ideas are very disorganized and otherwise poorly communicated. Don't read too much into this response, unless you learn to write a decent line of questioning for me to give a decent line of answering towards.

Calm your tits, or other enraged body parts. We will rebuild. >>819 >That number of posts is disgustingly low. As others have said, you're assuming that the entire community is posting on /q/ currently, rather than waiting for the other boards to come back. Most of your other arguments are based on this assumption, so there's no point in addressing them. >That's why. Actually it's because there has been demand. Whenever a new public board has been created, it's because there have been enough threads on the topic elsewhere to merit a new board. >And I wonder, why aren't the mods attacking and criticizing kalyx openly on /q/ right now? Staff are users too. Just because we're not posting with our capcodes that what kalyx did is totally inexcusable doesn't make it less so. >What did he mean by this? As I am not Appleman (sorry, you'll just have to trust me that this isn't an elaborate ruse), I assume he meant that in the most obvious way. When he reinstalled all the software, he was the only staff. Previous staff members who have asked for their privileges back have received them. >>827 >if he wants kalyx to moderate the site When kalyx deleted /civ/ unprovoked, his staff privileges were removed. Now that he has wiped the server, with privileges retained through an admittedly large oversight, those privileges have been removed. He is not involved, and will not be again. >>829 The lack of proper backups was another big oversight which will be fixed.

>>829 >Without proper backups, a simple electrical or mechanical failure could and probably would happen eventually and wipe out everything anyway. Wasn't it rented? As in, if hardware failure happened, it would be recovered back to the last mirror. The only thing that would save you from "snowflake failure" would be mirroring to external location, which would cost money.

Kalyx wiped out all the content of Lainchan. Whether it's Appleman's fault for not backing it up properly or not, the end result is that kalyx wiped out all the content on Lainchan. End of story. For the mods and other lainons to have the audacity to tell an angry lainon to calm his tits over this is just plain demeaning, no matter how that lainon words his anger. Is Lainchan full of c|_|cks or something? Kalyx attacked the site and succeeded at the end of the day, plain and simple. >>827 >hurr durr what are you gonna do? Shoot him in the face? At the very least we can get angry at him and somehow get back at him, right? This guy just wiped our website clean. This was an attack on Lainchan, and it should be labeled as such - an attack. >>853 As OP I'm going to clarify my arguments for your retarded brain. 1) The previous structure of Lainchan (13 boards) did not support its small userbase properly. That is, there needs to be less boards total. 2) The reason why Appleman and his mods are not openly lashing out at kalyx despite the fact kalyx lashed out at them first is that in reality, they still hold sympathy for his vision of a small community split up into 13 different categories - it's easier to moderate their users that way. (Read: control) 3) Kalyx was a sick man, and that is the only reason why he did what he did in this attack. 4) Appleman even suggesting that he COULD moderate the site himself if he wanted to should be seen as at least curiously demeaning to his moderators, but as seen in the thread so far, his mods will brush off the comment to keep their stations. The subsequent conspiracy theory I stated afterwards was meant to be a joke but people here are taking it seriously in order to discredit my arguments. 5) Instead of making a call for less boards and a tighter community, 90% of lainons want the status quo back and will attack anyone who expresses anger toward kalyx's attack. The following posters are kalyx sympathizers who fall under the definition of a you-know-what. That is, someone who gets hit hard in the face and doesn't want to retaliate. (And the fact that the word is derezzed on this chan really tells you something about the people here, that they're afraid to be called that word on the internet): >>860 >>854 >>855 >>827 One thing we could do is ban kalyx from ever entering our hemisphere in whatever way we could. But of course, kalyx sympathizers wouldn't want that. There's no point in the merging boards, especially when most suggestions involve merging slower boards into faster boards that will completely drown out all the discussion that used to take place on the slower boards (ex, merging /diy/ -> /tech/ or /zzz/ -> /feels/) or making large dumping ground boards that will kill off more complex discussion in favor of speed (ex. /tech/+/sec/+/diy/+/λ/ all in one board). >why aren't the mods attacking and criticizing kalyx openly on /q/ right now? Because they have more better things to do and going on a rant about how kalyx is an idiot doesn't help bring this site back up any faster? Many people have better things to do with their free time than just ranting about how mad they are online. Also, most of the mods just post as a normal anon when not doing things related to their mod duties. >muh degeneracy Go back to wherever you're from, because it's pretty clear you aren't from around here. If you want the cyberpunk threads from /g/ then go back there, they're still a regular occurrence.

That is, there needs to be less boards total. > Instead of making a call for less boards and a tighter community, 90% of lainons want the status quo back and will attack anyone who expresses anger toward kalyx's attack. You act as if wanting as few boards as possible is a logical conclusion everyone should get behind after thinking about it. This is simply not true, YOU want less boards that move faster, a lot of us do not want that, and the reason for that is not because we think that our community is bigger than it actually is. Some of us just want a quality split between some topics, and some of us have no problem with boards that might move slower but at the same time has actual, proper discussion going on. Also I am quite happy with the moderation here, proper (and sometimes strict) moderation is needed or else small boards like ours are easily overrun and overtaken. We want people to become part of us, not the other way around. There are other metrics to justify the existence of a board by than just the speed at which it moves. About kalyx: Yeah he is an attention grabbing kid and what he did was just stupid, so what? brewing soykaf and butthurting about it will not help, and the last person that should lead a personal vendetta is the admin. I'm actually glad that our mods and admins are not trying to turn this into a soykaf flinging drama show. All they got to do is make sure kalyx no longer has access to anything, and that's it.

Calm down, lainon. Not all of us feel the need to flood /q/ with the same soykafty >IT'S HAPPENING LEL XD posts. I think most of the workable ideas have already been stated repeatedly, and there's no sense in reiterating all that. More noise isn't going to help the mods bring things back into order. I would imagine a good number of lainons are STEM professionals that don't have time to fuarrrk around on an imageboard when something like this happens. Most are probably waiting for their board/topics of choice to be revived. That said, I am kinda pissed that Appleboy kept his backups local to the site. >>1095 >>1096 That would be very low of kalyx, though I wouldn't be very surprised. I doubt it would be popular as a lainchan replacement; lainchan drew a community because people like cyberpunk and lain, not kalyx. But he could just be putting up a smaller site for people he knows. There's a lot of smaller chans and boards that aren't meant for a large amount of traffic. But meh. As long as lainchan exists, I'm staying here.

It would be nice to have a couple fewer boards, but that's really personal opinion. Number of boards does not NEED to scale with userbase. >2) The reason why Appleman and his mods are not openly lashing out at kalyx despite the fact kalyx lashed out at them first is that in reality, they still hold sympathy for his vision of a small community split up into 13 different categories - it's easier to moderate their users that way. I like how all the lainons criticizing OP in this thread and saying he was blowing things out of proportion are now silent with the release of lainchan.jp. It turns out, OP was right. There are kalyx sympathizers and kalyx administration hold-overs in Appleman's administration that are working to sabotage the current site. And it's completely sad that Appleman is just taking it all up the butt. Like OP said, the community is small enough, and since Appleman failed to claim kalyx's attack on the website as an attack, the community will split further and become even smaller. Kalyx is also being smart not saying that he is leading the new lainchan.jp website, for fear that he will be outed, but it's pretty ducking obvious he's the leader. If you actually read OP's points without resorting to your feelings (wahhh he called me a degenerate lelelel can you talk without using the work c_ck?) you can see the points are completely valid.

>>1310 The thread died, that's why people are now "silent". If a meteor destroyed the moon they would still be in "silence" in this thread. Because it was dead. That's what happens with dead threads, people stop posting in them. Your arguments come from wrong assumptions, you assume OP's arguments were silly because he said a few bad words, but not at all. They were silly for the reasons explained over and over in this thread. Your arguments don't make a lot of sense because you come from the assumption that people are silent because a mod decided to make a lainchan spin off, when in reality this is no different from anyone making a different imageboard. Some people will go there and stop coming here, some will not go there, some will go in both. This is not the middle ages and we're not armies waging war against each other. Imageboards are places to talk about stuff with likeminded people, nothing else. If there are more likeminded people in <x>imageboard, go there and have fun, that's how it has always worked. The only thing an imageboard administrator can do to actively hurt this dynamic is trying to tailor content/wage slave, which doesn't happen here. The site going offline a few times ain't gonna kill nobody, likeminded people will still come to talk about stuff, some of them will get tired and move on, like it has always been. My problem with people like you is that you assume that everything is a pissing contest and people are actively trying to manipulate you or others. There are no conspiracies, nobody gives a soykaf about anybody else, we're mostly miserable people talking about cute anime girls in glasses and infosec, nothing else.

>>1338 >Kaly user detected. I'm not sure what is your point. >"This is not the middle ages, therefore, it logically follows that people never group up to fight with each other anymore." I did not say that. My point is that an imageboard is a place for likeminded people to talk with each other. It's not a soccer club nor rival hacker group, thus the idea of "fighting" doesn't apply, most people don't care about what Kalyx do or doesn't do,what Seph do or doesn't do, or even what appleman do or doesn't do. As long as people don't mess with the means of communication, the community is alive and well. Bitching and whining achieves no purpose. Using shallow arguments too is a waste of time, both yours and mine. If you have something to say, say it honestly and directly, otherwise this is not communication. I'm not a child and i imagine you're not either, so don't talk like one.

His action to wipe out the entire site is in direct opposition to your logic of what a "healthy" website is. The only conclusion I can come up with is that you're working for him.
Jean Dupont · 2017-04-17 18:10
>>1341 The assumption that i'm defending Kalyx came from your posts and only them. You're fighting arguments that you came up with, and if you make up arguments of course it will make no sense. Let me be as clear as possible with what i think: 1. Kalyx is a little whiny bitch trying to get attention. Him being a little bitch does not make it impossible for you to be another whiny little bitch. If you're bitching, you can be a bitch. 2. Whining like a little bitch serves no purpose, either suggest a course of action or stop screaming as if you were in the Crusades. This is not a soccer club and nobody gives a soykaf about your anger. If you want something, say something, even if what you want is to dox kalyx, stop talking as if we were an army marching to war, it's childish and doesn't apply to the context of anonymity. 3. What kalyx did is stupid, nobody can change what happened. Whining will not make it better. Suggestions and contributions will. Doesn't make any sense, considering the whole point of the meeting is to decide lainchan's future. >have the mods promise they won't work for kalyx anymore This is not a company, mods don't get paid and have no obligation to do anything. If they want to work for satan himself, they will. >>1345 You said in your own words that a community is "alive and well" as long as no one messes with the communication. Kalyx wiped out the site. Do you seriously want to make the argument that wiping out an entire site and deleting everyone's conversations with each other is not equivalent to "messing with the means of communication" for everyone? I can't believe you're arguing with me over this. Kalyf_g is censored, hence-therefore name-calling kalyx is forbidden and therefore censored. As a leader, Appleman needs to be flexible according to the situation. Why wait for the meeting? There is no better time to discuss things than right here and now, while the site just suffered an attack on Kalyx and other mods who went with him over at lainchan.jp. And I don't understand what you mean by saying that lainchan isn't a company. So what? If you are a moderator of the site, you are a volunteer, and volunteers have responsibilities. Do you seriously want to make the argument that moderators shouldn't be expected to have responsibilities? Do you want to argue that if I believe moderators should have responsibilities and should promise things when things go haywire that I hold a misconception of what an imageboard community is? You, quite literally, have no respect for our site and community. You think we should do absolutely nothing and should be expected to do nothing, and that anyone that expects anything to be done about anything holds a misconception as to what an imageboard community is. I don't even get why you are here then. More properly structured means fewer boards, stickied projects, less moderation, and proper security measures. I shouldn't be the one proposing plans for such things, the mods and Appleman should be the ones at the forefront of all that.

I'm not sure what the point of this discussion is, your only goal clearly is to stroke your own ego, you disregard everything i say and switch for something else entirely.
