been doing a think over these last couple of days and i feel like at this point i want to get this off my chest. feel free to correct me if my chronology is wrong. now, i've been using lainchan and involving myself in its """poomunity""" since very soon after kalyx exposed his underage member on a webcam and it was uploaded to jinteki.industries, and just after /tech/ was re-enabled. back then lainchan had achieved an equilibrium, a golden state as it was; enough posters to make the boards engageable, but not too many as such that it was too fast; the standard of quality of posts was very high, and there was never ending bantz. while it may have passed its so called glory days of 2014 and early 2015, lainchan was still a comfy and cozy environment to soykafpost in. people rail against /cyb/ and say that it didn't have a clear defined purpose, although when it was around and lively it didn't need a defined purpose because the posters defined it for themselves. that includes, much to the chagrin of pol-expat newlains, a strong and noticeable anarchist and feminist undercurrent. /tech/ was grand. it was like 8/tech/ before it was tainted by overspilling polacks who drowned out posting about technology with posting about how mozilla and google are colluding to finish off the white race, and after 4/g/ derezzed desktop threads we even managed to attract some of their regulars. /λ/ hasn't really changed at all tbh. its still a good place to learn new things and get help even if it does harbour characters like the lisp general guy (don't mention anything to do with politics around him). sadly at that time i didn't really visit many of the other boards, some of which have also been lost to history, like /w/, /rpg/ and /art/. one of those i did engage in very much is /feels/. it had and has a very simple concept; a comfy, anonymous place where you can get stuff off your chest and people would give you advice. to this day /feels/ is unique amongst imageboards. ANYONE who says that if you want to talk about your /feels/, that you can go to /r9k/, can fuarrrk off. however much of a Sad concept it might seem to you and me, lainchan became my "home board" after the slow deterioration of 8/tech/ and 8chan as a whole's subsequent prolapse around this time last year. funnily enough it was around that time that i started spending more time with friends in meatspace and dropped off irc and imageboards, and i ended up coming back around august of last year and at that point kalyx's neglect of the site was starting to take its toll. now, however much other lainons want to have a go at him and abuse him for wiping the lainchan vps, i actually am quite indifferent to the guy, even though the bastard has never replied to me when i've mentioned him when he joins the IRC. he lives, at least from my point of view, a rather bizarre life and to whatever mental health issues he might have, i cannot possibly comment. but there it was, lainchan was stagnating, which was a good thing since, as i'll come to later, the amount of signal on the boards was still quite good. however, lainchan had befallen the same fate as 8chan, and that was that vichan was creaking and crumbling at the seams. you are reminded that it was the drama over joshua moon and infinity next that damaged 8chan. it was at this point, out of the environment that arose soon after 8chan's collapse, that a spammer began to spam nazi soykaf all over the site.

this spammer has actually been the most successful spammer i've ever seen, in that he has caused massive damage to lainchan and almost singlehandedly orchestrated the decline of lainchan. the problems he was causing was one of the factors that led kalyx to hold a big meeting on mumble about reorganising the boards (and before you ask, yes, there was a large contingent like myself who were skeptical over why this was necessary), and at that meeting it was decided that amongst other acts like merging all cultural boards into /cult/, maybe it was then that /sec/ and /civ/ (Big mistake!) were created, and most controversially /cyb/ would be locked and delisted. keep in mind, folks, that the reasoning that kalyx gave was that lainchan was not an imageboard site with a cyberpunk board. it was a cyberpunk imageboard. i've read a load of soykafe over the last eight to nine months about why /cyb/ was delisted (not deleted). i never understood why /sec/ had to exist, and, from what i saw from it, it eventually became the same thread rehashed over and over again - "what encrypted messaging programme/service should i use?" that were best served on /tech/, and furthermore when /cyb/ was around it had very helpful opsec threads that never manifested themselves on /sec/. /cult/ was a nice board and i got quite a bit out of it. whichever lainon suggested watching hypernormalisation, thank you so very much. it did have the effect, however, of erasing weebs and games discussion from lainchan, but that's fine with me, since lainchan is not a catch-all general discussion imageboard. it's a cyberpunk imageboard, remember? actually, lainchan does have a xonotic server and related community and, if you're interested, you can join #xonotic on the irc. here we go. /civ/. now i've asked recently, what do rorkes and lolberts/anclaps see in cyberpunk? "back in my day" one of the core tenets of cyberpunk was that at its core it involved a resistance of plugged-in people against the megacorps and the government, so no wonder it lent itself to anarchism. i, as a dyed-in-the-wool communist, too sympathised and engaged with the anarchists. this was what made lainchan special, and in the mire of the prevailing situation i vocally made clear my belief that it was one of the things that kept lainchan special, and i regard my letting up of this line to be a personal failure of mine, as all of this shriveled up and disappeared as soon as /cyb/ went away and /civ/ was created. /civ/, "Civics", was meant to be dedicated to the discussion of life in meatspace, but the floodgates soon opened and lainchan experienced its /new/ moment. it was at this point that lainchan lost its USP as it were, it ceased to be a cyberpunk imageboard, as nazis and anclaps quickly colonised /civ/ and began to spill over onto the boards. like everything rorkes touch in our hyperpoliticised epoch, threads on every board descended into us vs ebil lefdies soykafflinging and fuarrrking """muh cultural marxism""" garbage. comfiness was destroyed almost within hours. do i think its recovered? barely. and in all of this chaos, rumours and machinations on irc that kalyx was looking for a buyer for the site, on the 8th of september it was announced that appleman had bought the site. and at that point the chapter of tragedy was closed, and the chapter of farce began.

everyone in their right mind wanted, and most still want i think, for appleman and lainchan to succeed and to an extent he has. i personally cannot doubt his skills in managing to wrangle and beat vichan into shape. what i did hear is that during negotiations to buy the site he indicated his intention to turn lainchan into a reddit clone, to which he was told "yeah it'd be ok if you didn't fuarrrking do that". however apart from the addition of /sci/, another pointless and duplicative board, nothing much really changed on the outside. oh yeah, and the fuarrrking duck. its only now that discontent within the lainchan elite has surfaced and led to these recent events. there's some people who already gave up on lainchan. apotheosis (miss you), a731, darkengine, spedru to name a few. a lot of my problems with appleman only really apply to IRC. but he has refused to stand up to rorkes and soykaf drinkers and obstructed the recreation of /cyb/ (but what difference would it make?). it became readily obvious to me that he doesn't have the qualities of a leader since he is averse to taking advice and refuses to delegate. the revelation that he never took backups of lainchan is disconcerting. he didn't even push his modifications of the board software to github and for a community that (apart from the rorkes) holds free and open source software as highly important is not too good. lets not forget, folks, that kalyx still held and used admin rights, deleted /civ/ and still had his email registered with the vps. the amount of pressure appleman feels showed when i talked to him on mumble and he was reluctant to take any action against nonces and racists on #lainchan, and then when he was asked to "start banning ppl ffs" in a fit of peak he k-l*ned (network-level derezzed) every user that was joined in #lainchan. hoping things will get better is pointless in my eyes given the current circumstances. 4/g/, already past its great days of techloli/g/y, has declined further and further into neo-/v/ since 2014 and has never got better. 8/tech/ died a lot quicker in early 2016. however lainchan suffered the worst in the shortest amount of time. it is just a result of the pattern of socialist, anarchist, free software and technology poomunities as a whole on the internet shrinking as facebook, reddit, neurotypicals and the false dichotomy of suckdems and liberals upholding capitalism against rorkes and the so-called fash make more and more ground and eat further into the places we hold most dear. in my eyes lainchan.jp have already sabotaged themselves by using the name "lainchan". this means that rather than create a new cyberpunk imageboard and community that might have recreated the atmosphere of months gone by, they have decided to ride on the coattails of lainchan.org and in the best case scenario split the community. they made things worse through the so-called "coup" which has led to a lot of bad will amongst lainons towards lainchan.jp. the opportunity to achieve that equilibrium of posters has evaporated. so, overall, soykaf is fuarrrked. and sadly enough it makes no change. for now i'm gonna have to reinvest more time into /leftypol/. Present Day, Present Time! AHAHAHAHAHA! so long lains.

>>1899 >what do rorkes and lolberts/anclaps see in cyberpunk? I cannot for the life of me figure out what "rorkes" means in this context (yes I looked it up) but ayncraps surely have a place here. The bickering between them and syndicalists, situationoids, illegalists and the other branches of anti-authoritarianism is part of the fun. It's the supporters of a certain orange coloured, yellow haired crybaby who recently acquired access to nuclear launch codes that mystify me with their presence in a cyberpunk environment.

>>1908 apologies its a /brit/ (NOT britpol) term for right wingers. still anclaps are in favour of the supremacy and authority of corporations. http://boingboing.net/2017/04/22/drm-eschatology.html

>>1897 hey OP I know you're a communist not an anarchist, but many of the former posters and anarchy generals, many of the feminists and lain comrades you know, have moved on to 0ch.org . The community grew out of the old anarchy generals, and I've found it nicer (as in less sexist and "class reductionist") than leftypol or bunkerchan. It may be worth a visit.
Jens Hansen · 2017-04-25 04:06
>>1897 Anon is sad. Those moving to jp don't want to be lainchan as it is. They want to be lainchan as it was. They miss the days when there was more of the cyberpunk ethos as you describe. They do have /cyb/. They do have /feels/. They don't have /civ/. But they won't have the kind of discussion you yearn for if anon doesn't make the effort. With a clean slate we have the opportunity to define what we want those boards to be. I plan to help by making a concerted effort to push the /cyb/ board away from visuals and more towards discussion about anonymity, privacy, and security with an anti-establishment philosophy. It is important to me because for a few of my friends and I the atmosphere we had back then was a very formative experience. It makes me sad to think that there are young lains out there that will never have the opportunity to experience what we did, but at the end of the day it is up to us. We shouldn't resign ourselves to helplessness. I'm not advocating that everyone switch. I'm advocating that people like anon do.

>>2088 >Those moving to jp don't want to be lainchan as it is. They want to be lainchan as it was. I know, I know I've let you down I've been a fool to myself I thought that I could live for no one else But now through all the hurt and pain Its time for me to respect the ones you love mean more than anything. So with sadness in my heart I feel the best thing I could do is end it all and leave forever whats done is done, it feels so bad what once was happy now is sad I'll never love again my world is ending

OP's posts gave me dyslexia. >it did have the effect, however, of erasing weebs and games discussion from lainchan, but that's fine with me, since lainchan is not a catch-all general discussion imageboard. it's a cyberpunk imageboard, remember? Ein · 2017-04-26 15:39
>>2143 You can like anime and not be a weeb. I like cyberpunk and space fiction, and some anime is very good for that but I care little for the rest of it. A weeb worships anything Japanese for the sake of it being Japanese no matter how stupid it is. >>2144 You are part of the problem. Encouraging anyone to throw tantrums and post even more is like throwing napalm on a bonfire.
Unnamed · 2017-04-27 01:32
>>2142 It is worth mentioning that anarchism was always a big part of Lainchan. The same way that right-wing politics is a big part of 4 and 8chan. It isn't "pushing agenda" when people genuinely care about these things and talk about it. It becomes pushing agenda when people like you get offended over the existence of other political views. If you post honestly about right-wing politics and other people care about it, they will discuss it with you the same exact way. Having a different opinion does not imply "pushing agendas" or doing propaganda. This is a small community, keep that in mind when you reach the conclusion that somehow there's this great branch of government pushing agendas around here.
