TAKE IT DOWN - ADMINS

Hacker · 2017-04-23 12:02
Admins, you don't need Apple's approval to take down lewd.sx from the navbar, so fuarrrking do it. You talked about the powers and abilities of the admins in the AGM, so prove that you understand what went on in the meeting, and that it wasn't fuarrrking complete waste of time for everybody - all four hours of it. You don't need the Apple to wake from his Apple slumber; It follows the most blatant path of logic and reasoning that since lewd.sx changed their affiliate link to go to lainchan.jp instead of lainchan.org, especially when messages and inquiries have already been (supposedly) sent to them, you should have all the power and authority to now take the link down, based on their betrayal of the community. As for my personal opinion, you should get to the bottom of this well and demand a reasoning from them. People won't stick with this community if none of you, especially you Appleman, put effort into at least looking like you are stocked up men and have some form of dignity.

>based on their betrayal of the community. Are we going to do internet gang wars?

The tribalism towards internet communities is fascinating. I wonder if there are any studies about these things.

We spent a fuarrrking hour talking about delegation of responsibilities and just hours later the phantom admins and mods decide to do nothing during this event because Appleman is asleep? = HEllo? Does anybody work here?

On a somewhat related note. Has anyone with mod-powers considered adding a link to .jp in the navbar or elsewhere on the site? The way I see it, .jp is an imageboard that is highly relevant to the interests of the lain community, so it wouldn't be unreasonable to ask the people running it if they want to be affiliated. While I understand that the people moderating the two sites have personal stakes in this matter, I'd think that it's in the community's best interest to maintain friendly relations between the two sites. Sorry if this has been discussed to death already: I haven't been following the drama that closely. Also, to make my stance clear, I'm not sure if it is a good idea, but it's interesting.
barrucadu · 2017-04-24 01:00
>>1982 You're suggesting we affiliate with a site where (a) one of their admins wiped our server unprovoked "for comedy gold", and (b) another two of their admins abused their positions of trust here to try to redirect users to their site. You have got to be kidding.
Mario Rossi · 2017-04-24 01:14
>>1984 Well, that's the past. What about the future? If you think .org is better of not associating with .jp, than that's fine, but I'm not sure if it reflects the attitude of the community as a whole. I at least interpret two posts in this thread that encourage people to be less tribal, and someone in another thread wanted a concatenated "lainchans" site. Also, in regards to learning from past mistakes, I think the more useful lesson is to perform regular backups, rather than to not trust people (the latter lesson should be trivial).
Mario Rossi · 2017-04-24 01:21
>>1987 That doesn't make a lot of sense. It's not about tribalism, .jp has an agressive atitude towards .org. There are no upsides in this deal for the lainchan community.
Marly Krushkhova · 2017-04-24 01:36
>>1991 I'm naively assuming that we can improve their attitude towards us with how we treat them. Since I don't think that the people that run .jp happen to be the only purely evil people on earth, I have to assume that they think what they are doing is for the good of the community. Thus, if we share this goal, we should ultimately be able to get along with them.
H.R. Giger · 2017-04-24 01:42
>>1994 But from a practical perspective they have nothing to offer. Their community has different focuses, their moderation has a completely different focus, it's another community that happens to call itself "Lainchan". Going from that principle, we might as well try to align with 8chan, or any other imageboard or website. They will certainly have something to add (traffic, at least). .jp has nothing to offer positively.
Case · 2017-04-24 01:59
>>1996 Well, that's opinions. You're not wrong, but I'd rather not get into a non-factual discussion about whose opinions are "right", so I'll just be quiet for now. Thanks for getting the discussion rolling.

>>1996 >it's a differrent community >that happens to call itself lainchan >with most of the staff >who got the boards recreated created in the first place >and 3 affiliates that appleman had to drop >and many cross-posters >and its very own theme on here >as well as code taken from their github >created around an issue relevant to this site but it has nothing to do with us, rite guys?

>>1982 the way .jp is being run is very obfuscated and they are not interacting with their community at all to explain it. their board was populated literally by hacking this site and they aggressively delete all dissent. they shouldn't be given any trust or affiliation until these things are addressed.

>>2374 Should also be added, the deleted thread being discussed was a dev who had a script that archived lainchan. He provided it to .jp on request, buy they tried to make him only give it to them in private email because they hoped if .org didn't have it and they did, they could steal more traffic from here. He refused saying he does his script to help users, not the admins of any site, and gave the archive to apple and anyone else who asked. .jp devs then claimed they did the archive themselves for some reason, memoryholed the original thread and derezzed him for not respecting pronouns. really promising administration.
