Who is really to blame for lainchan.jp?
Anonymous · 2017-04-17 15:54
I don't know if anyone else noticed, but it seems like Seph actually put in a serious effort to try and rebuild this site. I think she just realized her board post was going nowhere with the staff and said fuarrrk it. Apparently other mods agreed with her.
Someone said she even got bitched at for making the /r/ board. If this is how we're going to handle things here, it seems we're fuarrrked either way.

Her proposal was going somewhere, but obviously it was not fast enough for her liking.
Some of those boards could still actually happen here.

Seph never seemed to tolerate people taking meme, political or 'be gentle' approaches to technology. Technology is not waiting around, do soykaf seriously or don't do it at all. This move, if anything, is in character.

Someone on #lainchan.jp just said that Appleman was literally busy fixing the fuarrrking link resolver chatbot while they were building the new board. I think that demonstrates precisely why they did it. Some priorities, eh?

I'll go where I judge the best part of the community has gone, and where the best content is. At the moment it seems that I may choose .jp as my most frequented site, but that may change depending on how well both sites conduct themselves.
Y.T · 2017-04-18 04:28
>>1382
I'm lurking and posting on both at the moment, but I'll be pretty bloody honest; despite the lack of content and the soykafpoasting trolls .jp is feeling a hell of a lot more 'polished' and complete. It feels like everyone here is just defaulting to /r/. Now what might not be a bad thing? I'm playing the waiting game.
>>1386
Likewise. I mean it's entirely possible .jp will attract a 'different' sort of people and they may very well rename themselves. If both sites attract good content then hell I'll just go to both.
Tyrell Wellick · 2017-04-18 04:55
Lainchan.jp will end up changing it's name.
It's fuarrrking stupid that they'd even think that was even close to a good idea from the start, I have no idea why or how they could think that... but ok..
I hope they succeed anyways, but this is like kicking dead whales down the beach. My favorite community is being destroyed because of disagreement in hierarchy. Go figure. Build it horizontally or it will always fail.
BloodCat · 2017-04-18 05:01

I'm just making a duplicate of every post I make here over on .jp, and continuing to mostly give no fuarrrks as I lurk both. Though right now it seems obvious to me that .jp is going to fail, or at least stay small as soykaf and peter off into obscurity and then oblivion. The only way I can see it ever being the new "home" for this community, or even growing in size (they've pretty much limited their ability to appeal to newcomers by using the same name) is if Lainchan.org disappeared altogether. Oh, god, I hope I'm not giving them any ideas

Why does anyone think it's a good idea to split?
Especially with the same name an everything.
Further, there's an incredibly suspicious series of events that have lead us here.
>Kalyx deletes site
>.jp pops up (was being developed before)
>Kaylx approves .jp (what does this matter, he sold the site anyway)
The very fact this predatory behavior and, frankly quite opportunistic decision to launch the site was perpetrated by the people behind .jp makes me ultimately distrusting of the crew there.
Why call it lainchan when there are many other names, it is distinctly _not_ lainchan because lainchan was sold to Apple by Kalyx.
If I was Apple I would be seeking some kind of apology from Kalyx because that seems to have broken the sale. Not only that but he deleted the fuarrrking site.

That mentality, that's the damn problem. This isn't "my site vs your site", this is about LAINCHAN, as a community.
All that's happened here is a tiff between some of the staff members that has spilled out in a way that it shouldn't have done.

cuz I didn't write those links. if a mod changed my post, it'd be framing me. If an admin changed something written by another admin, that's two admins disagreeing with each other. which is exactly what happened.

Look at the facts.
>Kalyx is incapable of leading lainchan.org and spends months on lainchan.org crying about his depression, homelessness, and inabilities to lead the community.
>Kalyx decides to sell lainchan.org to Appleman
>Kalyx wipes out the site
>Appleman either out of laziness or lack of ability promises the community that he will have things back up , generally speaking, a week into May.
>Kalyx states he's thinking about making a new website
>Kalyx's loyalists move to lainchan.jp and redirect lainchan.org's headers to link to lainchan.jp, without announcement.
>Appleman holds onto his statement that he will not do anything large until a week into May
>Kalyx's loyalists and other followers subvert the community on lainchan.org with the following memes,
Kalyx's loyalists' memes:
>We don't need drama, just go to whichever website you prefer :)
>It's unethical to criticize mods just because they are affiliated with Kalyx and his loyalists at lainchan.jp
>Appleman wiped the site [implying Kalyx wasn't the one who pushed the final button to wipe the site he sold to Appleman]
>It was an inside job and Appleman did it to benefit himself
>Seph tried really hard [she made a single board] to fix lainchan.org but she got fed up with it, so we cannot blame her at all for switching sides.
Conclusion:
While Appleman clearly lacks the capabilities to stay firm and protect his community, the ones who are truly deceitful, unethical, and subversive when it comes to the overall situation do not include Appleman. Lainchan, in it's original sense of the name, has died, and there is no turning back.

Really I'm not sure where things went wrong; when the place started out I remember everyone was really chill, and that I learned a lot about programming from them. People could disagree, and the mods didn't have to get involved much. But sometime in late 2015 or so? some event happened where /cyber/ ended up flooding our site, and whether or not it was the cause that seemed to mark the site's decline.
People originally came to lainchan because it was sweet relief from the flowing trenches of soykaf that are the main chans. I'm sure where things really went wrong, whether it was fork-bombing boards or overmoderation or something else entirely. It might just have been too much traffic.

jove here (You may know me as the guy who raged like a motherfucker at Seph and Junk over changing the board list yeserday). I've been sat in the middle of this trying to talk to everyone and resolve this whole thing in a way that doesn't splinter the community. As I've made clear before my allegiance lies with lain more than any one site or administration team. I had a lot of sympathy for everyone going into this but I cannot support any action that threatens to set lain against lain. Making a new site with the same name was foolish and ill-advised (as in literally I advised them not to), but understandable. Changing the board-list was reckless, childish and ensured that their only hope of success was in division and animosity. I'm still mad.
First, I'd like to clear up some of the misconceptions here. kalyx is not behind .jp and him deleting the site, while something of a catalyst for this whole thing, was done without knowledge that anyone was going to start a new one. Consider that if this weren't the case, they'd have waited until .jp was up before they did it. More than that, when I got on mumble with him, kalyx immediately suggested that we just go and talk to Appleman and try to sort this out. He is all sorts of an idiot, but he's not a terrible person.
Second, the people at the meeting yesterday weren't the .jp people. It was myself, kalyx, iLikeBiscuits (guy who got the radio back up) and a few random community members who happened to wander in. We did ask Seph to join us she refused on the grounds that she was sure it would go nowhere and that Appleman wouldn't listen to us.
The meeting was fruitful. I had a lot of misgivings going into it after what Seph had been telling me. She was wrong. Appleman can be difficult to communicate with, but he's a good guy who really cares about this place and was totally willing to spend hours listening to the things we, a bunch of random people (including even the guy who deleted his server a week ago) had to say and take them on board.
On that note, it transpires that the whole "2 weeks until the boards are back" thing was a miscommunication. That was his latest possible estimation for when the site would be "fully operational" and he's quite a literally minded person. The only reason I pushed for 24 hours for the boards being back was because that was before we'd worked out this miscommunication and I was worried it really was the plan for it to take 2 weeks. It seems that 24 hours for all of them wasn't practical (there's a lot more goes into it than just creating the board), but expect the rest to be back soon(tm). That's not to say they'll be exactly as they were before, but they'll be in working order.

No worries. Just trying to keep people informed. I'm a great believer that if you give people good information they'll make good decisions. I've said it a few times over the past few days but openness and honesty will go a long way here. None of us are enemies, we all love lain, and none of us should have anything to hide. I just wish everyone had been on the same page about that.
I also really hope we can stay on the same page regarding division and animosity. Ok, yes, the people behind .jp betrayed the positions of trust they were granted when they messed with the board list. It was a soykafty thing to do and kicked this whole thing off with hostility. I tried so hard to prevent a "war," lain against lain. As with most wars, all it means is that everybody loses. Creating a new site isn't totally unreasonable if you feel you need a different admin. It's not ideal, but sometimes there's no other way. Hell, I supported them and offered good advice well meant when I was told that that was their plan (advice that was entirely ignored apparently).
Anyway, moving on before I get tempted to rage like a mad bastard again. Yes, they've acted foolishly and divisively but they're still lains and they still had the best of intentions here. Everybody loses in war so let's just not have a war. Be better than I was with my rage yesterday, put aside their reckless and foolish actions and work against division and animosity, wherever you're posting. I understand, me getting so fuarrrking mad hasn't helped that, but it is the right thing to do. Even if the only lains we lose from this are the few that were behind it that's a loss.
So yeah, everyone involved in this in any capacity are good people, good lains and I'd hate to see what happened with 8/cyber/ happen again. Where one of the boards slowly dies due to lack of posters and the few that are left refuse to move because they feel it would be "traitorous." So, let's just not do that. No war, no sides, no allegiances to to one site over the other, love of lain comes first.

You type all that but fail mention the one real fact that matters most to some of us here; That Kalyx, in the end, was the final person who decided to push the button and wipe out the entire site. You try to assure us that this wasn't a giant conspiracy for Kalyx to get lainchan.jp running off with a good start and a good population of visitors, but here's the thing, no one thought that, you idiot. What most of us saw was a sick man as explained by >>819 using his own stupidity and maliciousness as an opportunity to regain some power that he had lost previously. Does anyone here have any evidence against this case? Of course Kalyx would offer help to Appleman, he is perpetrator who caused all of this, you dummy. If he didn't offer help he would be looked at as the most hateful person on the internet. And no one knows the private conversations between Appleman and Kalyx, so no one is really sure if any good information was given to Appleman by Kalyx anyway. And even if Kalyx was helpful, at the end of the day the whole situation was as if you went to a car dealer, bought a car, and the car dealer came to your house a few months later and smashed the crap out of your car. No matter how much you type, you won't ever make lainons forget about that fact. And no matter how much lainons criticize Appleman saying he should have always had the car safe in a garage, it will never negate the fact that the car dealer came to his house and smashed the car he had sold to its current legal owner. What's more, Appleman's response, to some lainons, seemed as if he went to the car dealer, who had just smashed his car, for advice on how to fix the car instead of suing the crap out of him as a consequence for what he did. Does this imagery help you understand how stupid and ridiculous this whole situation looks to some rational thinking lainons? I know you're gonna reply back and say that making lainons forget about all this wasn't your intention, but it really looks like that that is what you would like given by what you're saying.
Some of us here don't ever want to see Kalyx again, see Seph again, or see anyone over there again. It's not even that we like Appleman, but we at least wanted to wait to see him, who didn't initiate the crimes and who is in fact our current owner, communicate with the community and more with us rather than the perpetrators and the criminals. "Appleman is losing his trust"? GIVE ME A BREAK. Seeing him talk so much with the initiators of this event makes it seem he trusts them with all his heart. To be honest though, all of what I'm saying probably doesn't matter to any of you or other lainons anyway, because those people who I am talking about will probably simply leave the community quitely as a result. That means less contributors to the lainzine, less talented programmers, and even less post activity. But hey, it might just be a small amount of lainons leaving. Maybe it won't be that bad, who has the hard numbers anyway?

Honestly >>1426 seems the best response to me, and I don't really see the problem with .org right now.
If we could just shut down .org and get everyone to move to jp then yes, .jp is a nicer place with fewer problems, and I'd be for it. But we can't, and any attempt to do that would just split the community and be bad for everyone honestly.
As for >>1437 , we're not proud we were "sold off to the highest bidder." Apple has been with lainchan for years and he's trustworthy. either those anarchists or those polacks who came here to push their narrative now see lainchan as a venue to control.

He never did everything by himself and he's still got people with him. The notion that he's some sole dictator whose supporters all left is a false one and I don't even know who started talking about it as being real.
It's like one of those narratives that are created just so people behind it could be the righteous ones, but the actual situation is much more complex.
>>1582
Crowdfunding the hosting bill wasn't going so well - kalyx took a lot of donations for it and despite having some very generous people, there were still cases of not being sure if the server is going to be paid for. Hell, this is the reason why it got sold in the first place.

While I don't believe jove is 100% with .jp, I do believe he's being stupid sitting on the fence with all of this. He keeps advocating for peace, but while he does so, Kalyx is wiping our site, traitorous mods are redirecting our headers, and .jp posters are subverting here us like the puppets they are. (I bet Seph is pulling the strings here).
And if you look at the screenshots of the mumble groups Kalyx is releasing, jove seems to be always with them and listening in. I wouldn't trust jove until he clearly picks sides.

It looks like Jove is pulling strings too, but then again we all are. We're trying to influence the future of lainchan. That's why we're here. I don't think anyone explicitly wants to harm the community so I don't understand why we're making this so personal.
Anonymous · 2017-04-19 18:57
>>1602
We're making this personal because personal interests are involved. If Jove keeps hanging out with Kalyx's circle of friends, I have good reason to believe he shares interests with them and their vision. And to make things clear, their vision of the future is a single lainchan community over at .jp, and either the death or irrelevancy of Appleman's .org website, which Appleman procured legally and in good faith. Personally, I cannot share with their vision over at .jp because of the personality of the mods there. Kalyx is simply a malicious person if you know his past, Seph is manipulative, and the rest act like serpents slithering around and looking to please the both of them. I'd rather hang out with a somewhat incompetent leader like Appleman than hang out with their lot, but I fear Appleman considers Kalyx and his friends to be friends with him even though they would only like to see him brought down on their level.
All of this does come down to personalities, which is why it needs to be discussed without any fear. And if Appleman keeps hanging out with their clique, I won't be here much longer myself.

>seemed as if he went to the car dealer, who had just smashed his car, for advice on how to fix the car
The only real help he's taken from kalyx was immediately following the deletion when he got the info from him that he needed to reclaim those accounts and lock kalyx out properly. Yes, kalyx was there when we went to talk with him but he wasn't a big part of the conversation. I (and the random people who happened to be there, thanks paradox+maps. You guys were a big help) did most of the talking. He did offer to help out by being a janitor (where he wouldn't be able to do irreversible damage even if he wanted to). Both Appleman and myself said that was probably a bad idea because, at the very least, everyone hates him.
>it really looks like that that is what you would like given by what you're saying.
No. That's not what it looks like to anyone rational at all. I cleared up the misconceptions that the events were directly connected and I will continue doing what I've always done. Tell the truth as I see it. Again, kalyx is all sorts of an idiot, he's not a terrible person. Though, personally, I think it would be foolish to put him in any position where he could do similar again.
>"Appleman is losing his trust"?
What do you even mean by this? Who's trust? Kalyx's? Why would that matter?
>Seeing him talk so much with the initiators of this event makes it seem he trusts them with all his heart
He is on mumble (or IRC) pretty much every day. If you want to go talk to him he's right there (lainchan.org default port). Neither he, nor I (but that's a personal thing), have any trust left for those people.
>because those people who I am talking about will probably simply leave the community quitely as a result
Which people? Not having a chunk of people leave for no good reason has been my main aim throughout all of this bullsoykaf.
Honestly I'm not sure what you're driving at with most of this. Kalyx is a soykaf? Unarguable, the guy deleted the server, though, personally, I do still consider him a friend despite his bloody idiocy. Appleman shouldn't be listening to him? Appleman's a fuarrrking saint when it comes to not taking things personally. I could probably kill his grandma and he'd still be willing to talk with me and it's a public mumble. Anyone can go talk with him.
>>1573
>any attempt to do that would just split the community and be bad for everyone honestly.
Yep. The worst part is there were ways to do this that wouldn't split the community. If they'd just made a site with a different name, laid out their problems on /q/, encouraged people not to hate on each other over this and to cross post and been patient and let it happen slowly and gradually we'd have been alright and, in the long run, the best site would have won. Instead they go and fuarrrk with the fuarrrking board list first fuarrrking thing. I fuarrrking told them. Anyway, I'm not gonna rage at them again, we've seen enough of that.

So yeah, again, they aren't bad people. I honestly believe that they did what they did with the best of intentions.

I was told that they'd tried very hard to deal with Appleman but found him impossible. I'm very much starting to wonder how much that was true. I sat and talked with him for a few hours last night and, while he could be difficult to communicate with, it was far from impossible.
>>1601
My intention going into this was to not pick a side, help everyone, and try to maintain peace. That ended the moment they fuarrrked with the board list. I should make clear, my allegiance is where it always was, to lain, to this community and to avoiding the splitting thereof. The only reason I've picked a side now is that I had no choice if I wanted to maintain that true allegiance. As I said in other threads yesterday, good lains are going to judge them for what they did (and quite rightly. It was soykafty) and refuse to move site and I will not leave those people behind. Here is the only choice for me now. I really like to not leave the people at .jp behind when it dies as well. Please?
As for always being there and listening in. Yep. I do my best to stay informed. It's panned out well in the past. I'm the guy told Appleman what had happened when the server was deleted (prior to that we assumed it was just the routing issues that had led to the reset email being sent). That has ended. Seph stopped talking to me after I told her I wouldn't mod for her (same as I won't for lainchan) and in general I'm not trusted because I "leak" things (i.e. try to make sure everyone has good information so they can make good descisions).

>late April 2017> plain and simple I had no prior access to lainchan before I recieved the pasword reset message. I installed Centos on top of the data. No plan, just a protest against the last 6 months of lainchan. when the site was sold Appleman refused help and refused to create relationships with the mods. plenty of retarded changes have happened and almost all of the mods left since appleman himself decided he did not need help. after the wipe I was trying to setup a mastodon instance for my close lain friends. seph went on to make jp and asked for my aporoval. i did not really want to go either way until things were sorted out between the real lainchan. plus ive been working a fuarrrk ton. regardless of my actions this was enevitable . sure i probably accelerated it. we had a big mumble meeting with appleman and he was more interested in transcribing the meeting than having any type of opinion . we were recording this meeting too until appleman wanted it stopped. basically it was like kicking dead whales down the beach. at this point i believe jp has more of a chance to continue lainchans vibe. thats where ill be and thats where youll find mods that care and work together. i hate "yes" men. everyone made mistakes in this situation. in the end the statement seph wrote on the jp homepage convinced me. kalyx@openmailbox.org

That's pretty funny.
Important note: these people aren't all ex-.org mods and admins, so it's not like .org got this amount of mods moved away - .org still has a staff that's easily enough to support the site.
I'm mentioning this because some people mistakenly claim that .org is Appleman working alone against a huge group of .jp's staff.
Also, how about we tone down the "traitor" talk a bit? People can disagree with .org's ideas and move too .jp for their reasons. I think there are better topics here - for example, can the two chans co-exist peacefully without conflict between them?
I think most of the people on .jp are fine people and if they had gone and made a someother-chan, this discussion wouldn't be nearly as intense. I think it's clear at this point that both .org and .jp aren't going to just fall apart without an userbase, so how does the interaction between them look? Constant bickering is fruitless and would distract from the main purposes of both places, so what do we do?

I agree.
The best way to deal with .jp is to ignore them and make .org even better. Giving them more attention only helps them. We already far outstrip them in posting rate: by my estimate they have about 500 posts at most, whereas we have 4500 since the wipe. We have a larger community. The boards people wanted from before the wipe are mostly all back. Things aren't so bad for us: but they have the difficulty of building up a self-sustaining community from almost nothing, this is the stage in which most sites die. Sure, they perhaps got a small burst of initial users from every fifth post on .org being about .jp, but the number of posts suggest it was no more than small.

This is the greatest meme ever. I took a look at their /q/ and they're spouting this meme over and over again over there to spread the idea that kalyx was a good boy, and always has been a good boy! What they're really doing is trying to distort reality as well as Lainchan's history by writing out the part that Kalyx was such an insufferable glitterboy throughout his entire time as head honcho of the website.
And in my opinion, things didn't all of a sudden take a turn for the better after Appleman's perfectly fair and legal take over, but at least Appleman is quite conservative when it comes to massive changes, (which can be a good quality for a leader), and isn't an unstable mess like Kalyx. This is why I have so much more respect and loyalty toward the big Apple, as stupid as he is for not creating proper backups. He's human though, and makes mistakes. But then you have this idiotic dunce here >>1773 (not talking about the poster)
>No plan, just a protest against the last 6 months of lainchan.
If this isn't the definition of what an insufferable glitterboy is, I don't know what is. He's like the retarded antifascists out there on the street right now beating people up and saying "None of what I'm doing is blatantly aggressive, I'm just making a fair point! What, I'm not allowed to do that?" And then he goes on to complain about Appleman, pointing out things of which he has no evidence for - I mean he's just complaining about how conservative and stable Appleman is, which when you think about it makes sense because he's the complete opposite of the guy he sold the website to!

things used to be comfy here and they no longer are. only still here because there's not really much of a different place to go.
if we could revert everything to where it was a year ago, then remove kalyx, not instate appleman ever, and have things owned and run communally by three or so other staff from back then, it might be ok.
as it stands, not sure how to get from here to there, much of the userbase has been swapped in the meantime, seeing this as a safe-haven for garbage, so "correcting leadership" won't take things anywhere really, and splitting off just attracts more garbage instead of solving the problem, as was intended.

its a matter of him trying to rely on LOGIC and BUREAUCRACY because he can't intuit human emotions.
also, he's unwilling to share responsibility, and this has driven away the people who cared most because they're unable to effectually improve anything, with appleman then acting both as a bottleneck, preventing concerns from being addressed, and a single point of failure, trying to micro-manage everything in his image even when it doesn't fit the situation at all.

the "criticism" there was "why did you not deal with this when you set the date a year ago, or delegate to somebody who had time if you did not". it was about actually doing things rather than just talking about them.

1. the deletion of nice boards, with their culture-share being deleted in the process
2. the introduction of /civ/, and the swarm of people being intentionally derisive and angry and dumb that came with it
3. kalyx being stupid
4. appleman scaring away the old staff by trying to treat them as programmable robots.
5. appleman making more single-handed decisions, erasing and merging whatever as he saw fit.

Still not a valid criticism. "Why didn't you write this a year ago" doesn't change anything. It's just pushing an agenda into every topic.

Which boards? The only one i'm missing is /cyber/, mostly due to nostalgia.

Isn't that solved? Most /civ/-tier posts are frowned upon and even warned by moderation to get their soykaf together.
>kalyx being stupid
Well, he's not here anymore. Isn't that issue solved?
>appleman stuff
But that doesn't affect lainchan, does it? The community isn't changed by moderation in that specific context. You're talking about things that are not very tangible from the perspective of a user. If Appleman was like kalyx and we still had to deal with his soykaf (kalyx was one of the worst users of lainchan when he was in charge, you must remember that), then it would affect usability. But appleman doesn't even use his handle to post on threads unrelated to moderation.
From the perspective of someone who enjoys the lainchan community, i cannot see this impact, except on /q/. All other boards are business as usual.

It's as if for every time someone posts in this thread saying not to be dramatic about things, one more harmful thing is done toward this community by the runaway mods at .jp.
.jp has added a second affiliate to their list: lewd.sx.
And I checked their affiliate link on lewd.sx; There's not .org/.jp split either, it just lists "Lainchan" and links to the .jp website. A lainon in another thread pointed out that one of the runaway mods was also a mod at lewd.sx, which may be the main reason why this happened. This once again shows that the anti-drama meme that you can't judge a mod by who he is associated with is quite ludicrous in the middle of chaotic situations like this. So go ahead, tell us all about how sage you are because you won't pick a side, while .jp continues to actively seek to harm us in ways that are more direct than what we would expect, like take away our affiliates while we still have them listed on our nav bar, and without messaging Appleman of the change, or shall I call the betrayal. That is to say, the fact that this was done without prior messaging to our mods by the Lewd staff for the sake of keeping things professional proves that this was malicious in nature, or at least leaning toward that attitude.

You know you guys talking about .jp gives them far, far, far more credit than they deserve.
Their technical boards have a dozen posts. They have a dozen mods. The place is a fuarrrking soykafshow.
Why not focus on lainchan and its community? As previously mentioned, nothing outside of mod drama has changed. The community is the same, the quality of threads are the same (even higher, now that we don't have /civ/).
Every single reason you guys gave so far for "things to be different" have to do with drama, not with content. The content is the same as it has always been, so just contribute and love Lain. My point is that their community does not care about what the Lainchan community cares. They might as well be called something else. The priorities are differente, the type of users are different.
You cannot possibly expect to create a comfycore community based on bitterness over how fast boards are created. Thus, they are completely irrelevant for Lainchan, the only credit they have is whatever we give them.

If you like .jp, go to .jp.
If you have complaints about .org, tell us in text, this is what /q/ is for.
If you're thinking about babbling on how Lainchan was better 1/2/3 years ago, provide arguments that can be refuted or agreed with. "Kalyx is a soykafhead" is not an argument, he's already not a part of .org, thus this issue is solved.
If you have suggestions, make them.
Don't be a little bitch. Nobody likes little bitches. Attention whoring about .jp is little bitching. If you like it there, go there. If you like both, visit both. If you think they do something better, make a suggestion. If you prefer their community, nothing can be done, you can go there, nobody is forcing you to stay.
How these threads haven't been purged is beyond me, you people argue like old hags. If this thread was about any other type of content it would be recognized by the low quality soykaf show it is.

>>1879
How so? Most people are improving things the same way they always have, making good posts. It's not like there's any big problems that need attending to. Back to enjoying the ride as always.
>>1882
It's a good metric for the number/type of users and how long it's been around doesn't mitigate the low count, quite the opposite. When you make a "rebel" site like this it's rather all or nothing. You need enough of the userbase to agree that what you're doing is necessary before you do it. It's mostly a matter of content, tribalism and consensus. You need good content in order for users to want to use your site and, obviously, far and away the most important content for an imageboard is posts. Tribalism speaks for itself, people like to pick a side early and stay loyal to it. Consensus and the way it forms within a community simply acts to exacerbate the other things there. People tend to go with the flow and, while, for some things consensus cracking could be employed (and I'd be very surprised if it hadn't been tried here). It won't work for this. The post counts speak for themselves and you're trying to argue that you no longer use a site while on that site. The only thing you can do is say "I'm leaving" as often as you can and, as time goes on, it starts to ring hollower and hollower as the post count doesn't drop.
As far as I can see, they managed their clique and not much beyond that (as evidenced by the mod:poster ratio). They made a massive mistake in the way they handled this by expecting the community to rally around them when the problems they had were never user facing and only affected the mods in the first place (and also just don't exist according to the remaining mods at the AGM yesterday).
The lesson is that if you find yourself on a website and don't like the admin, you want to have at least 50% (preferably higher) of the community looking for a replacement site before you create one. If you don't have this and it's more of a "I think I can do it better" than "there are big obvious problems that need fixing" you're better off just starting a new, unrelated site and proving that you really can do it better. At least you don't start with a majority of your potential users have a negative opinion of you.

Posting "daddy i don't like .jp" doesn't hurt them, it hurt our community. They're happily sharing their wallpapers and desktops while you're throwing a tantrum on Lainchan.

Which defenses are these, specify them. Flooding /mega/ with drama is only an attack on lainchan's community.
If you want to "attack" .jp, devise a method, come with a plan and execute it. Stop bitching on lainchan, that only hurts lainchan.
At the very minimum, if you're going to bitch, bitch on .jp, that way THEY will have to deal with you and then you will actually hurt them in some minimal way.

Wait, what the fuarrrk? I hadn't realized iLikeBiscuits was a part of .jp staff. This worries me now because when I listened in on the meeting, I heard he was trying to take control of /stream/ too, and you said you would talk to him about it.
I know I'm just one lainon but in my opinion you should refuse his offer if you haven't already and take both of that soykaf down. They've already taken one of our affiliates, without telling us may I add, do you want them to take two other major portions of our website as well? They may be improvising this soykaf, but you know that in the end, they want to take as much from us as possible and have them entirely owned under the .jp name. Now I know iLikeBiscuits may or may not had had this intention during the meeting, with all his yawning every three seconds, even as he talked, but now I can't shake the thought that he could have just been putting up a front to take as much as he could as possible. That may be what he was told to do, do you know for sure otherwise? He was a delegate.
Moreover, you have to make it known to us, or he has to make it known to us, where his affiliation lies and which website he remains loyal to, in the end. None of that "I'm in the middle" bullsoykaf either, because what worries me is that he was labeled as a .jp delegate, yet started talking using the words "we" only in his 15th line in the transcription, when he started suggesting that "we" give back-ups to a small group of staff here. Now notice that until his 15th line, he has only been criticizing Appleman and his obsession with structure and formality, and making himself seem apart from the .org community. Only when he tells you we should hand back-ups to a small group of staff members does he start to speak collectively and with the words "we". Now, also notice how he fought so much for mod transparency, on a website which he may or may not have already given up on! Could it be that if you did decide to hand back-ups to a small group of mods, he would want to know which ones it would be, and know who to ask if he needed "something"? Even if that weren't true, are you sure that every staff member we have currently will remain loyal to .org?
tl;dr As stated in >>1904, the staff at .jp purposely kept the Lainchan name because they don't want their own chan, they want ours. Don't let them take more from us. Hire new people outside of the community to take care of /stream/ and /radio/, even if it takes time to do so. To me, this would make complete sense, would it not?

Not having a ratio service > having a radio service from an unreliable source. This applies for any type of service.

So who's giving them legitimacy? I'm giving them legitimacy? I have nothing to do with them. Their actions on the other hand, and in other words, them, they themselves are giving them legitimacy by their actions and their attack on us. You're twisting my words; I don't want to attack them, I want to defend us from their advances. This is about defending, not attacking. And if you really wanted this off /mega/, you would have asked Appleman to specifically and temporarily take /q/ posts off /mega/ because of all this "drama", but you didn't. My other suggestions are, that Appleman should cease any communication with old staff that ran away, revoke their accounts, privileges or whatever access in general so they can't harm us anymore. But that is also stating the obvious.

I don't think we need to know who the staff is, this isn't the government for fuarrrk sake. If i was a mod, no way in hell i'd be willing to have an identity. The reason this place is enjoyable is partly due to anonimity. Expecting a lack of anonimity from staff is absurd.
