https://soundcloud.com/loquattt >trab beats, also been making some ambient/yumenikki inspired stuff lately Feel like I must have posted in this thread long ago but I don't remember. >>5971 This isn't bad at all, & I like the vox sample, but the bass that comes in sounds a bit muddy, I had a hard time hearing note changes. >>5915 I like the concept but the drum need a lot more OOMF imo >>5939 to be honest I don't get this kinda stuff at all but I like the cover >>5982 Kinda neat for someone who's just starting out, sounds like stuff you might here in a videogame or something >>6005 I like this kind of concept, nice. >>6008 Spooky, I would have liked to hear some more bass/some synth stuff though. >>6011 >At least some try to pretend they care and say things like "it'd be a huge help if you could check out my music and share it if you like it! I think fans of ___ would enjoy it!" I feel like typing all that out would come off as really formal and tryhard, especially on an imageboard. Like my description basically says that I make trap stuff/am trying to make music you might hear in yume 2kki or something, and if you like that thing, you would want to check it out. >and hell, some even share their peers' work as well https://twentyfive-lighters.bandcamp.com/music this guy is cool imo

I really like Vocaloid but can't bring myself to make the super happy, electro-pop stuff usually associated with it. I think i'm kinda in the in-between where vocaloid fans dig japanese pop style yet vocaloid's still too strange for EDM types. either way this is kinda a mix of newer pop and breaks. hope you enjoy >>6064 nice stuff, I really like Day to Day and that YNGTH bootleg (props for liking them). I dig the blend of ambience and hip-hop kinda drums
Rick Deckard · 2020-08-19 01:11
Hi Lainchan, after learning music theory for 5 months I did this song with LMMS and a midi soundfont: I don't really know what genre this song is besides "soft rock" and "pop" in the broad term. I would be really thankful for constructive criticism, opinions or recommendations. >>5561 I really like the song, though it might be repetitive it actually makes it kind of hypnotizing and charming. >>5765 The beat is very nice and the song is nice, though you could soften the noise effect on the voice so it's not as irritating. I also checked out your newer album "reflexions about the meaning of my life" and I liked the first song: I like the bass, the beat and the song overall. >>5915 Your song has some spacey vibe to it and it's pretty nice how the song progresses with the beat. >>1806 I listened the Live to Café Alpha album and it's a very good album, the songs I liked more "Too High To Care" and "Sea Song": it's the kind of Folk genre that I really like. I liked Heroin Town from New Year too. You do very good music! >>5228 Your vaporwave album is very good, I like it: it has that melancholic and nostalgic yet so enticing vibe and each song is unique and good; that album is something I would be playing while browsing the internet alone in my house a rainy night. I also listened your second album and I liked the first song: the beat is nice and that "hai" sounds so cool. >>6175 I like it when the vocaloid sings and then the beat drops, I really like that part. It's a very good song.
Dr. X · 2020-08-19 04:47
>>6176 I think you have a solid structure set down, a piece of advice I got when first starting out: you'd be surprised how "professional" you can sound by getting some different VSTs (even presets) and tasteful use of reverb
William Holtzer · 2020-08-21 15:49
>>6175 Glad you liked it! Your synths were really cool, I like the idea of vocaloid stuff over non-vocaloid typical music. >>6176 This is way better than what I had 5 months in. Anon is right, you'd benefit a lot from some non-stock sounding-sounds. Keep at it
Morpheus · 2020-08-21 16:57
https://youtu.be/PvP7vcBXNPs the thing about these micro souls is that you can never tell whether they're from a person (as opposed to non-person), and so you end up spending all day translating what's really actually a simple message that's just like encoded in a weird scroll. >>6176 you're doing good. one thing: is this song in a key? feels like maybe not, so adhering to a scale/key would instantly make things sound a lot more musical. try adjusting the velocity of your notes (and drums) to create more variety in the timbre and sound less mechanical. as >>6178 said, reverb is a shortcut to sounding professional, but think of it more as a way to work the 3d space and add depth to the song. more importantly he named using good instruments (or samples) because when it comes down to it, sample-based songs are built around one good sound. the instruments are the song after all.

how do i start making music, lainanons? i want to make soykaf in DAWs, do i need to know how to play an instrument before that? i have like 0 experience in music but i really want to make soykaf, it's killing me. where do i start?
Pris · 2020-09-05 23:08
>>6255 I love it Lain, the visuals fit soooo well. The tune has a bittersweet sound to it which I'm a sucker for. Checked out the other two songs with anime grills in the thumbnail, overall good soykaf. Cool Evola quote in wintercamping
Crazy Jake · 2020-09-05 23:17
>>6257 >how do i start making music, lainanons? develop good taste and learn how to use your tools >i want to make soykaf in DAWs, do i need to know how to play an instrument before that? a DAW is an instrument. you may find that learning piano or guitar or something will help certain music theory concepts stick in your brain more effectively than just clicking chords into a midi score, but it depends on what you are trying to achieve. learning piano will probably not help you write techno, for example.
Jens Hansen · 2020-09-05 23:20
>>6257 You don't necessarily need to have experience with an instrument, but it helps just so you can have something to improvise on. Bang out some random melodies on a keyboard or guitar, see what sounds good, then just go from there. As for a DAW, it's highly subjective, but most people recommend FL (what I'll admit to using) or Ableton for beginners. You can also get LMMS if you want to go full FOSS. As for tutorials on mixing, though, I haven't had much luck myself. It's an important skill to keep your songs from sounding too quiet/loud, to keep one instrument from drowning out another, and overall to avoid your stuff sounding like a total headache. But I don't even know where to begin on that. If I did, I'd have posted some of my own works by now.
Naomi Nascimento · 2020-09-05 23:53
>>6259 well, i really want to make stuff with sampling, the idea of just taking a song, then remaking it into something new and beautiful is amazing to me. although, i really want to make dnb first, that's kind of like what i want to do and go from there, and making breakcore aswell. >>6260 thanks for the advice lain, i'm kind of broke so i might just pirate DAW and i've heard of FL and ableton a lot aswell, but i was just dead confused while trying to start using FL, maybe i'll try ableton and see if it could maybe ease me into music production.
John Titor · 2020-09-06 00:01
>>6261 >i really want to make dnb first, that's kind of like what i want to do and go from there, and making breakcore aswell. imo learning to play a traditional instrument would be a waste of time. if you don't know how notes/chords/scales work just read an intro music theory book. you probably won't actually use that knowledge directly if you're doing stuff with samples but all the interfaces will be piano rolls with note names, so it helps to understand what they're supposed to be representing. >i might just pirate DAW i would recommend renoise. it's great for sample based music and the "trial" is just nagware (pretty much full featured but gives you a "you really should be paying for this" screen when you start it). ableton is also good for sample based music, and has a slightly more conventional interface, although once you learn to use renoise's tracker interface it's a lot quicker for breakcore type stuff.

https://soundcloud.com/chasame/imaginary-cutter >Glitch >Ambient >Experimental Made this with a guy from 4chan's /mu/. He made the pad, I added everything else >>6255 Would prefer more interesting drums instead of stock drum machine samples. The tonal instruments could use some filtering and echo. Also, would shorten the track by about 3 times, because nothing is really changing throughout these long 6 minutes. The voice samples are completely out of place and break the atmosphere The footage is comfy ❄️ >>6236 You have potential. I recommend you to stop insisting on making beats. The trap mindset is limiting you, preventing you from growing as an artist Ideas: * Replace 808 bass, come up with new ideas on generating bass tones * Replace 808 percussion, same story * Think about more unique rhythm ideas. Even within the 4/4 time signature, there's so much to try!

>>6257 Nah. Just download a DAW (Reaper is free for 3 months I think), find some beats and samples and start playing. This is a very helpful and fast rundown on the basics of music theory https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgaTLrZGlk0 Also, the best advice anyone can give you while making music: Make a lot. Focus on quantity over quality while you're familiarizing with everything. When I started I was focusing too much in doing something good, but it would take me hours and hours, and then I'll get demoralized, drop it, get depressed, etc. Then I started making fun soykaf fast and it was great

>>6261 >making breakcore I've been putting off figuring out breakcore for a while, and I recently stumbled upon this crazy sample arpeggiation technique with Ableton's Simpler. Very underrated video/channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2_slXoFgIw I've been working in FL Studio for a long while, but I hadn't looked into automation like this, and this led me to finally discover similar sample arpeggiation and Gross Beat. And Gross Beat, man, what a fuarrrking trip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2IRx_4Q8aw I guess I overestimated how much of that crazy sample-shredding sound had to be done manually. I might just get Ableton to try out that Simpler technique, though the way he's working in that video seems pretty advanced and I'd have to learn a whole of Ableton basics first.

https://soundcloud.com/user-706418203/sets/bliss-row-demo-tape I made an album mockup of my home demos and am looking for bandmates(Cello, Violin, Bass guitar, Drums). Apologies about the first track, I recorded it about two years ago when I was younger and wasn't quite used to improvising yet, I made up the whole thing in the recording apart from the first vocal line and notes in the intro. You can tell from some of the other tracks I made more recently that I've since improved at improv, but only a few tracks were improvised. I'm not sure what genre it is, but I'd guess it's vaguely gothic alternative rock? I've mainly been listening to a lot of Bauhaus, Korn and Radiohead recently so I'd imagine I drew some inspiration there, though some had told me my songs reminded them of Radiohead before I even started listening to them. I'm based in the Oxford area, if anyone's interested, shoot me a message on soundcloud.

I did a nice little lofi trap beat for a friend and it ended up kinda nice. The dude said he wanted me to change some stuff but I really like this version so I don't want to let it go to waste: you can use it for whatever you want! I'm also planning on doing something else for you. When I have it done I will share it with you to see what you think about it. >>6197 I'm >>6176: Thanks for giving that advice about keys! I didn't use keys because of the "free jazz harmony" meme and thought chromatic chaos was cool but now I realize how stupid all of that is. Thanks to your comment I started to study harmony seriously some months ago and my stuff has improved a lot: thank ya! I fixed the song and uploaded (the one that's called song in key.mp3). You can feel the difference. >>6478 I liked fishes a lot! It's a pretty mellow track. >>6255 That's mellow! >>6412 I like your pads a lot! I'm a regular regular abstract rapper. I have no music education. I studied computer engineering. All I care about is bars, flows, beats, and mixing, and it's on my bucket list to reach the maximum of my potential in all those areas. I'm in the process of working on another character called Apollo whose lyrics are gonna be a combination of Accelerationist/CCRU literature with a Future/Yeat beat style and delivery. But right now there's Constantine, the expert at exorcising demons.

Something a bit different, but I hope you all don't mind. I've been getting back into violin since buying an electric, since I can play in my apartment without driving my neighbors mad. Found a stack of effects that gets me a pretty good sound, kinda natural sounding but clean. My playing is still soykaf but I'm working on it. When I was in school I used to be legitimately good, but that was a long time ago. I'm trying to do listenable recordings of all 12 Telemann Violin Fantasias this year, trying to record one per month. I'm definitely not going for pro quality, just listenable. It feels way harder to play a piece when recording than when practicing, not sure why. I can play Fantasias 1, 7, and 9 ok when practicing, but its much harder when I try to record. Here's a ok-ish recording of the Largo from Fantasia 1. Still not happy with my performance of the Allegro and the Grave, but I'm aiming to have them recorded this week I also have some original stuff I'm writing that's going to be interesting I hope. Maybe soon I'll have an EP of original work that I can distribute for real. >>10825 This is pretty cool. >>10824 holy soykaf thats exactly what i want to do. i have imagined making music thats on the breaking edge, as mark fisher observed in the 90s with jungle. i was thinking it would have been a mix of the type of sound your describing (yeat beats) with a mix of jungle, grime, dubstep, grunge, axxturel sound, hi-c type type juiced rap, a bit of sewerslvt sound, emo music like 00s rock, emo 2020s music like pinkpanthress, and hyperpop sound like lytespeed and punkinlove. all with a y2k, hacker, internet, anon-ism theme/feel that has accelerationist themes, unfortunately i do not know how to do this quite yet
Lady 3Jane.. · 2023-01-31 12:36
>>10844 Yeah it's quite interesting because it occured to me that the CCRU theme that emphasizes ahistorical, instantaneous motion actually coincides with a lot of these new rappers that don't do any pre-writing or rehearsals for their music at all, it's all focused on the lil wayne style of just going off the dome and saying whatever you can that rhymes right in the moment. For me I can do what all of these new rappers are doing pretty well with the autotune and the off-the-dome and everything, the biggest challenge for me is working obscure sci-fi references into the forefront of my vocabulary and making it sound actually smooth and cool (without pre-writing). It's just way easier to rap about sipping lean in the club than it is for popping accela in Cyberia. I need to build up the details of that fiction in my head for it flow seamlessly, and of this fictional Apollo character. Do you have a soundcloud or any other form of social media for us to stay in contact? It seems like we both have a similar vision so it would be good to maintain I line of communication, just in case one of us amounts to something.

It was an 'experimental electronic beats / ambient' sort of music according to the description on rutracker, a place that I've got it from, and, iirc, the artist's name was something akin to 'noexist' (a similarly named Swedish death metal band is not it). https://youtu.be/rbw_n0LWpfo

I'm a brokeboy, I started using LMMS and some free sample packs and attempted to make some speedcore kinda stuff. It's really basic and nothing worth sharing but I enjoyed doing it. I'm not sure I'm going about making kicks the right way, I'm just adding distortion and using build in stuff on FX, it kinda drowns everything else out though. I feel like the kicks just aren't intense enough, and by overdoing effects they just get lost in distortion.
Cereal Killer · 2023-10-14 10:03
>>11662 >I'm not sure I'm going about making kicks the right way This is exactly the kind of thing that just takes time and experience. I listen to stuff I made a few months ago and it's almost hilarious how just trial and error gets things sounding better. >>11660 This would make a great interlude on a longer album--the sound by itself is great! Going through the rest of your page, I can find something really grabbing and interesting in each of the tracks, but I'm not sure I really know what each sound is building to or what it can convey by itself. There's an ambient quality, but it also picks up and tries to go somewhere--I feel like there's a lot of potential in picking one of those directions or the other, either by slowing down and diving deep with ambience/soundmosh stuff or trying to add a little more structure with additional instrumentation. Looking forward to more of it.

That's when I decided to write this post because It deserves some criticism. Data Swallow, near the end of the track, reminded me slightly of Foregone Destruction from UT99. Liquid Crystal Display has a nice tune to it. Enjoying the piano in it. A shame you didn't play with it more in that track. Video Graphic Array, Admin Locked is enjoyable and Connection Lost is a nice closing to the album. It sounds like something I would hear from an indie game like Cave story. I think Discrepancy Detected was the meh-est track. The "Yeah! Woo!" stock sfx is kinda corny for me. Don't particularly enjoy it. Same for IFF Anomaly I think. It would do better without that SFX in the background 24/7 for that track. Though it's not always bad. Unpacking Disaster and Technophilia distort it enough that it sounds like it's own thing. If I hadn't heard you using that sfx in the album before, I would have missed it. >11834 sounds like old man yelling at breakcore.(USER WAS WARNED FOR THIS POST, Do not whine and cry about 8chan, lainchan.jp, "quality", "invasions", "newfags", mods, bans, or kalyx outside of /q/.)

ambient jungle dnb that I made in renoise tracker https://on.soundcloud.com/VFeeGucsC3jJC4x26 >>11922 I am not an ambient expert, but it's pretty good idea for my opinion, I think it would be better if it will be some bass (reese bass?) layer.

Hello lainons I discovered this song today: https://soundcloud.com/tohsakarin/tokidokiwatashitachiwahaiironohibiwoakarukusurutamenoyoiibentowokmasu-tape-rip It sounds like ambient breakcore with ethereal vibes, super comf, but also gives off a feeling of desolation or loneliness, not sure though. Do you think Lain would listen to music like this?
Gyula Kovacs · 2025-04-16 19:22
Good song. Is it just me, or did the song creator sample the Playstation 2 boot up intro? >Do you think Lain would listen to music like this? Well, maybe I guess so, in the show they had electronic music playing in clubs, even if not necessarily breakcore/dnb.
Six · 2025-04-16 20:20
>>13275 >>13279 I don't know actually about this, while the clubs had electronic music blazing, a lot of Lain's OST consists of real-life instruments, the most obvious example is the show's opening theme, but this is also quite present in Lain's own theme where the main core of the song is the guitar, there seems to be a synth that pops in ever so often but the main core is the distorted guitar. https://youtu.be/WAhFBhCXbrg?si=r96slpW6p-prcR9a Explore the soundtrack and you'll find it mostly consits of live instruments. Let's not forget also about the intense Progressive Rock number from the episode which recalls al the events that happened up to that point, the montage of past events that has Prog.Rock set to it. This emphasis on live instruments was probably done very intentionally, an anime all about abbandoning your human body for the sake of virtual one, which concludes on the idea that your human body is precious and important. The most raw idea of this is the show's ED, which is as raw depiction of a humanity as it gets, it is minimal Folky Rock with an incredibly raw human vocal performance set to it It also highlights the true which Alice shares, that Lain is full of humanity and a lot of the soundtrack reflects that, that more than anything, despite Lain's origins, she is human. So, due to all this, I always pictured Lain would actually be more into some kind of Alt.Rock, some kind of sub-genre, either indeed Alt.Rock or Prog.Rock. (This also isn't me trying to dismiss electronic music sorry if it came off that way, I love electronic music but I always thought this was an interesting element of the show)

Judge Fang · 2025-05-31 00:53
Yeah. I think that Lain would listen to this.
Lain Iwakura · 2025-09-07 04:05
Hello lainons! A friend sent me this yesterday morning. It has extremely few plays, and I was surprised that tracks with such high-production sound quality, without any advertising, received such a low number of plays. I messaged the user, but they haven't heard back. I think I've discovered an experimental album with post-rock and instrumental elements, and one that could become a major hit in the future! I recommend checking it out. link: https://soundcloud.com/astetra/sets/mushroom

I'm seeking for a job in field like infrastructure management / system administrator, hopefully I can find something ig
