I'm a huge Tim Hecker fan. My favorite albums by him are probably Radio Amor, Harmony In Ultraviolet, and Virgins. There's just something about his style (i think it might have to do with how he messes around with volume alot) that i really cling to.
Junichi Fujiwara · 2019-12-28 08:49
I do like my ambient with a bit of form, whether its a hint of drums or a nice old synth melody. pure ambient is hard to get into - meditative, but i dont always want to be in a void. >Mark Shreeve - Embryo (Extract) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRtgeYt4ERY >Ashra - Deep Distance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCSqbVbSe8o >Oneohtrix Point Never - Chrome Country https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfifDOUOUKE >Jon Hopkins - Immunity https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8eQR5DMous

>>5588 I love Loscil too. Plume was one of the first albums I listened to when I got into ambient actually. Pic related is still in my top 5 despite it being one of the earliest I listened too, though that may be a bias of mine. >>4598 >>4843 Tim Hecker[0] and Grouper (Liz Harris[1]) are a pair of ambient musicians who's work has stayed with me for years. I keep coming back to Dragging a Dead Dear Up a Hill. Just to allow discovery a bit easier here are a couple of sample tracks from them: Grouper - Heavy Water/I'd Rather Be Sleeping https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NynkFRDlWtY Tim Hecker - Hatred of Music I https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUpA8R01d50 [0] Hecker also wrote a weirdly interesting PhD on really loud human-made noises between 1880-1930. Features a lot of examples of organs destroying ceilings, giant horn bands and a guy who became so accustomed to fog horns that he would stop speaking every 30sec. See attached [1] Her other shoegaze work under Helen is also fantastic. Also some old ambient under Mirroring is pretty good, though a little cheesy to me.
