'Ya like jazz, anon? I've been lisltening to Thelonius Monk, BBNG, Bill Evans and some Miles Davis. What have you listened to? >pic of BBNG's album, IV

>>4347 i love jazz, i hope I can one day be as good as monk or evans on the piano. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOdAO8KJwW0

>>4347 I refuse to let a good thread die, so I'll just post some of what im listening to right now. Maybe other lainons can do the same?

>>4347 Honestly, Ryo Fukui's Scenery may be one of my favorite albums ever. I just play it complete from time to time and I enjoy it as much as the first time every time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hrr3dp7zRQY I also recommend My Favorite Tune, which is another great one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXKh50tgnGw >>4350 I'm assuming you're a newfriend. Lain is pretty slow overall and threads don't die as in other imageboards. Just leave the thread be, other people will find it in time and share their tastes. Sit back and relax my man.
BloodCat · 2019-11-15 00:33
>>4352 You found me out, I indeed am a newfriend, didnt know threads didnt get deleted lol You forgot to put in Mellow dream, thats my other fav from Fukui, though he really only has those 3 studio albums, he should have recorded more with how good they are.

>>4350 Hey lain, do you know the sauce of the pic?

Some non-traditional jazzy stuff I like: Thank You Scientist - metal-inspired jazz-rock fusion. One of my favorite bands. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVSvq3TK_qo Diablo Swing Orchestra - more of a haphazard-sounding mashing together of jazz and metal, but I think it sounds good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFOVKLrzos0 Mouse on the Keys - instrumental three-piece with two pianists and a drummer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjpOhR_Q9xw >>4352 >>4353 Technically threads do die the same way as they do in faster imageboards, it's just that it takes months of of inactivity rather than hours. >>4376 https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts?tags=hamsterfragment+&ms=1 Apparently the artist deleted all of their own social media at some point.
Cowboy · 2019-11-20 08:31
>>4347 I recently discovered the album "Mockroot" by Tigran Hamasyan. The Songs keep you on your toes with weird time signature stuff, especially Entertain Me or Double-Faced.
Nell · 2019-11-20 19:32
>>4347 I love BBNG. I told a friend who likes the classics like Coltrane, Miles and Chet Baker and he said they are soykaf. It feels like soykaf when a person hates what you recommend. I wanted to know how BBNG is seen in the general jazz community. >>4384 Tigran is great. He is my favourite "djazz" musician. Present Day, Present Time! AHAHAHAHAHA!
Frank Garza · 2019-11-25 01:33
https://yussefkamaal.bandcamp.com/album/black-focus I like Yussef Kamaal, the group is fire. Black Focus is great jazz fusion
Undisclosed · 2019-12-19 10:45
>>4404 It's a shame they didn't last very long. Their solo projects don't have the same magic as Black Focus
Ivan Horvat · 2019-12-19 14:01
>>4376 It's an artist called hamsterfragment, I love her stuff >>4385 Because of this thread I got into BBNG and I gotta admit theyre really good, but Idk if I'd considered Jazz instead of just "jazz influenced" ( which is a much larger tag). It just sounds a bit too straightforward, alot of songs on IV are just full on RnB. What you lot's favorite version of Autumn Leaves? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXKmjGHTvMA

>>4385 >>4404 >>4352 I would love to know people with such musical taste IRL :( Some guitar jazz for you pianoheads: > John Scofield - Deadzy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guRSGupFfWA > Emily Remler - The Firefly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XSvVmzC4PI > Kenny Burrell - Midnight Blue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNWDwOsQqlw Also: > Delvon Lamar Organ Trio https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhicDUgXyNg > Chet Baker Quartet - No Problem https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E95STK2tnoM such underrated recording

Trombone by three is pretty good. As is the genre of jazz.

>>4404 Recently found out about Yussef through a collaboration between him and Alfa Mist (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwVtIPeYIeQ), will check out Yussef Kamaal for sure. >>4347 I've been listening to Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays. Some interesting stuff, specially when they were together in the Pat Metheny Group. I enjoy "The First Circle" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVBoDx_1dTc) and "The Way Up" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFAOzFXFxIw) a lot. And for those of you who like a bit of vibraphone with your jazz: > Steps Ahead - Live at Copenhagen's Carlsberg Glyptotek https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PN8SAAMG8_o > Mike Mainieri Quintet - Live at Seventh Avenue South Absolutely love this, specialy "Flying Colours" (starting around 9:30 minutes in). That lineup with Omar Hakim and Bob Mintzer was pretty good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbhqqGg0rEg > Michael Naura Quartett - Call https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkVZeLGGKNk&list=PLPqPsAkWI7NYg73j58iWUMzQoFxJNL7pF > Grant Green - Idle Moments https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnEQmnrMWt4&list=PLBZmD4G_qXo57SgBJrxFg7BS56RcA-34z

Trying to better grasp the differences between jazz sub-genres. Now that I'm working from home, I'm just making my way through all of these. So I've just spent 8h having a pretty cool work day. So far my favorites are Bebop / Hard bop during the day, and cool jazz during the evening. Also "Maiden Voyage" is an amazing album. Herbie Hancock is becoming one of my favorite Jazz artists.
Drano · 2020-05-19 11:28
>>4347 I'm a big fan of jazz. I think my favorite musician is Sun Ra, cause he is insane, but also cause his music is really good. Here is a more fusion piece: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5vRHbQoTlc And a more traditional piece: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InsJx-f7qIk

Is asking about ways to get music here allowed? I'm interested in where people here go to get their music since there are so many interesting tracks people post, and because one of my usual sources, onkyo music, closed down last year. Give me commercial, peer-to-peer, anything whatsoever and bonus points for lossless/drm-free files. I'm slightly less interested in streaming but if you know of an interesting streaming service, post it anyway, someone here might like it.

i've spent the last few years really diving into the genre and its variou sub genres, trying more jazz fusion as of late. But ill always go back to coltrane in his spiritual phase, no other music makes me feel so spiritually and musically fulfilled
