evening lain, i honestly don't understand the hate behind the depressive music/rap scene. lil peep is an amazing rapper may he rest in peace. what i don't understand is the collective hate behind the aesthetic of the genre >let me be sad in peace twitter(USER WAS WARNED FOR THIS POST - Rule 4, write a better OP. You've stated an opinion, what do you want to discuss?)

Emo was always hated on. By sharing it you're forcing your negative feelings on other people. Enjoying suffering looks perverse even if it's your own. Be sad in silence.

To me, all the hate comes from people who either don't understand the music and its message or hate the crowd. There's nothing wrong with the music and anyone who tells you otherwise is grossly mistaken, however "emo" music has, is, and always will be filled with ignorant posers. People who think that since they listen to depressing music, dress similar to these artists and/or associate themselves with whatever the artists do makes them alternative and hip. In truth it makes them a lot of wannabe's with no life. Why, you ask? Well first if everyone is alternative, then it's not alternative it's mainstream. Second the ignorance and closed mindedness of the community is unreal, you insult one of the artists and they'll hunt you like ravage wolves. And although they think the music is god and subsequently refuse to listen to anything actually alternative or extreme(ie. heavy metal, punk, industrial) and not only that they completely fuarrrking assault any member of these alternative communities as degenerate losers. X is garbage, unoriginal and a complete degenerate and never should have gained any popularity. Peep, I don't have much to say except he's way overrated but his stuff doesn't bother me too musch >>3809 To add on to this, people don't like to be told their tastes are bad and then subsequently have this music shoved down their throats. If you like it cool, but don't force others to listen to it.

>>3811 Op here Im not really a part of the community, I've never really had any convocation with any fans of the scene, I've tried to say away from it purely because of the toxic nature of the community in question. Im really just a fan of the music. Every genre has its toxicity. The new emo rap scene is hated on heaps more often then even the soykafiest pop music. I don't understand why to be honest

The reason why I hate this genre is the constant talentless wailing and lament. It sounds like it's aimed at emotionally immature people and I feel like a 16 year old girl on break up mode when I hear it.

there's a weird cycle of appropriation and delegitimization to american music I think. where styles arise on the outskirts of society, are sort of coopted in the mainstream and then rejected as they more closely reflect the culture and people in the mainstream who kinda know they are a soulless void and seek outsider culture to avoid knowing. i think emo/sad rap arose almost completely in the last stage as a suburbanite subgenre of rap and was thus almost instantly delegitimized and hated.
