don't really know if there's a proper name for this kind of thing but there's a growing community in this very niche genre of people who make breakcore music that's more surrealist nightmare than weeb wonderland. wonder if any of you listen to this bs too or if any of you know any artists I don't. here's some examples.

a staple for breakcore with dark themes, goresoykaf and his semantics series initially defined the genre for me (semantic compositions on death and its meaning, benzo chronicles, et cetera)
https://goresoykaf.bandcamp.com/album/semantics-the-benzo-chronicles (goresoykaf - burn this moment into the retina of my eye)
the japanese produce lots of good breakcore, some of it deliciously melancholic, DJKurara is an artist that springs to mind
https://www.invidio.us/watch?v=BrW7kVfWPY8 (DJKurara - Inexplicable Dead Factors crossfade)
http://www.otherman-records.com/releases/OTMN082 (DJKurara - Peace On)
Stellabee is more popular of an artist, you often see him together with DJKurara on releases, but in my opinion produces less music with the themes I typically look out for, doesn't mean he doesn't have some stellar tracks though
https://www.invidio.us/watch?v=rcu8ra5yWa8 (Stellabee - Brain Damage)
similar as with Stellabee, you'll see the occasional godly track by kyou1110, also hangs with DJKurara
https://soundcloud.com/kyou1110/kyou1110-rmx (DJKurara - Quartenion Siren (kyou1110 Remix))
I don't listen to a lot of Ariflare, but some of his tracks are breathtaking
https://theworstlabel.bandcamp.com/album/umbral-mutant (Ariflare - Umbral Compiler Substance)
same with Sorry about my face
https://theworstlabel.bandcamp.com/album/waqs-dead (Sorry about my face - Together. Ocean. Fireworks. Sunset. Daydream. Tragedy. Forgive. Fear. Dark. Scars. Unrequited)
you probably already know this guy, if not, this track should sum it up for you
https://igorrr.bandcamp.com/track/double-monk (Igorrr - Double Monk)
some of Igorrr's music takes you to the darkest depths of your mind and back 3 times, especially his ep Maigre, a collab with Ruby My Dear, had a very lasting impact on me
https://www.invidio.us/watch?v=Si8itKafSxo (Igorrr & Ruby My Dear - Biquette)
ULCERIUM is another westerner who makes some crazy tunes, very bare for breakcore, nonetheless amazing
https://krytikaproductions.com/track/self-immolation-riot (ULCERIUM - Self Immolation Riot)
perhaps one of the most famous, this guy composes freely, typically not sticking to a defined rhythm but placing notes arbitrarily. at least that's the case for the song I link below
https://www.invidio.us/watch?v=D5A7zqOWdbk (Venetian Snares - Integraation)
one more for japanese breakcore, odaxelagnia is more renown for his trashy breakcore, but the occasional piece of gold makes it worth following him
https://odaxelagnia.bandcamp.com/track/the-black-goat-feat-cameron-shutters (odaxelagnia - The Black Goat (feat. Cameron Shutters))
m1dlet, perhaps very underrated, he makes some pretty dark breakcore
https://soundcloud.com/bankizz_label/bkz011-10-m1dlet-04-24 (m1dlet - (04-24))
you might recognize this guy from the lainon.life webradio, the cyberia channel, Divtech makes some sinister punk-y breakcore
https://divtech.bandcamp.com/track/drowning-in-walls (Divtech - Drowning in Walls)
and finally, if you would ask which track of this genre/similar genre had the greatest ever impact on me, even though it's not strictly breakcore, it would be this absolutely sinister breakcore/hardcore track by Viral Program, an alias of the japanese hardcore artist 6th, who had the idea to reuse samples from a 20 minute long video about a recording in which a guy explains how the Amen Break came to be the most defining sample of this genre. if you know the source material and it's contents, this track gets a hell of a lot more atmospheric, I can't describe the genius 6th put into this track
https://soundcloud.com/6th/viral-program-outbreak (Viral Program - Outbreak)
(yeah I realize I just doxxed myself)
this is the video about the amen break, I highly recommend watching it even if it only remotely has to do with breakcore
https://invidio.us/watch?v=5SaFTm2bcac
I linked previews that I personally found to fit this sort of melancholic theme that often reoccurs within the suburbs of breakcore, I can link 320kbps mp3's for all of them on request

wow. sincerely thank you; this'll keep me occupied for quite the while.
also I feel like these channels fit in with this thread.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFcb_4v6-LHx3yT_8uBN6Wg this one's an amalgamation of random /del/ tier breakcore
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCt0hfj2BMmdfgzc_1unjQfQ this one's a bunch of edgy music videos for mainly 97997almonds tracks but a few others as well. really fits the spirit of the music I think.

sadly a thread like this doesn't get much attention
ren · 2019-04-29 02:14
you inspired me to make a whole breakcore album thanks

nice! dunno if it's high enough bpm to be considered "breakcore" but music isn't really about filling arbitrary restrictions to fit into one category. anyway I thoroughly enjoyed the listen and am looking forward to seeing new works on the page!

Wow I really enjoyed this, what program(s) do you use?
thanks lainons for making me find breakcore

Hey, this is actually pretty [satisfactory]. I didn't realize we had such a talented musician among us. I'd say this is probably around the level of the Cyberia Mix album, which is meant as a compliment, although I don't know whether you like that album. Would anyone like to join me in listing the sampled sounds we notice?
I have:
Lain power hum
Fist of the North Star (presumably) Nani!?
Roblox death noise
Anyway, Lain (ren?), thank you very much. There's just something about having one of my Cyberian shadow-bleeding board "buddies" provide me with free, original, high-quality music apparently out of nothing but goodwill that gives me a bit of hope. By the way, if you ever feel like making some dark synthwave, I will support you wholeheartedly (well, not monetarily, but "in spirit"). I think you could do it pretty well.

The fact they made an album in 4 days is both impressive and kind of suspicious. I do admit the songs sound nice.
As for other Lains, there's Witch house as a genre, and exploring r/breakcore. For something a little lower tempo, but on the darker side of electronic/synthetic music, there's coldwave. An example band would be Coldreams (with their song eyes being a good example of their general style).

witch house is a great genre. i listen to wh artists daily. it's really diversified by style, can range from harmonia to mania to depression, but all of it is very emotional, always makes my heart overflow with emotions
ren · 2019-04-30 19:27
thanks for all the feedback.

i used audacity for most of the mixing and arranging. drum samples are a mix of both stock and self-recorded. hydrogen drum machine is what i used to arrange the beat, and the leads and others are also using hydrogen.
>>3526
luckily for you, the next album is planned to release in about 2 weeks, which is heavily 80s inspired (yes, lots of synthwave and oldschool drums). the other album i plan on releasing soon is the picture attached.
>>3536
even more suspiciously, i actually started and finished the album in a single sitting. took around 6-7 hours of no breaks, but it was fun.
