I love Lush. They're one of my favourite bands of all time and I can barely even explain why. They're just magical to me. Yeah, maybe they're not the most innovative or shoegaze-y, I get that, but Split and Gala feature the best damn songwriting in this entire genre. I also like Airiel a lot. Their 4 EPs (Crackled, Dizzy, Frosted, melted) are ridiculously good.

I like this group Gospel Gossip from Minnesota. Their first album is probably poppier than what you're looking for but the second one shimmers appropriately. Even the lyrics, they don't really have a very coherent thread to them but just invoke imagery. It's very good music to daydream to.

I love shoegaze. One band in particular I'm really enjoying at the moment is Spirit of the Beehive. They have a very detuned, indie rock, shoegazing vibe to them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ADhXCpanNg My favourites tend to be the noisier artists like My Bloody Valentine, Goslings, and Astrobrite in particular. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcHb7kLzQ3A

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFAIGRJGn48 I've been listening to a lot of Whirr, I enjoy the vocals a lot and the jump in production quality with their latest release is amazing. Also, kinokoteikoku. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Fwi7mysiAY

I love shoegaze too! Brings me to a state of contemplation, melancholy and pumped up at the same time >>3132 Whirr were great... I like Nothing a lot too especially on the Guilty Of Everything album where imho they really found the good mix of Shoegaze and Hardcore A few tracks off the top of my head Nothing - The Dives https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzuErMq-vNo Tanukichan - The Best https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnXlCBtipss Kestrels - No Alternative https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8agBXSjj0gE

>>2988 I know these are the big 3 of shoegaze, but I really only like MBV, Ride, and Slowdive. I find that the deeper I look into the genre, the more I find that most shoegaze bands sound exactly the same. This is especially true for Japanese shoegaze. Although there are obviously more obscure bands that have created original styles of their own, an overwhelming amount the new shoegaze albums I find just sound like rehashes of Loveless. This makes looking into shoegaze feel incredibly unrewarding for me. Does anyone feel the same way?
Bob Arctor · 2019-01-31 19:27
>>2988 Really love Tokyo Shoegazer. Kinoko Teikoku is another excellent shoegaze/post-rockish Japanese band.

I'm a pretty big fan of Have a Nice Life's albums Deathconsciousness and The Unnatural World. While definitely not the most cheerful albums, they do fill a void that I wasn't even aware was there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzSkiXpFQ3M Also headphone warning as it suddenly spikes in volume There's also one particular song that I really enjoy by Stella Luna called Antares. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfT6pknycwc Nowhere near as dreary as HaNL but still helps with the sads :(

>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZlNt05dCX8 >Sweet Trip - Velocity : Design : Comfort. This album is weird. It's like a combination of breakbeat, chiptune, indie rock, and shoegaze. I'm sure some of you lainons will appreciate it.
Meddler · 2019-02-23 07:10
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPYqrVDlc_4 >Mikgazer vol.1 It's an interesting album, that crosses vocaloid and shoegaze. Wouldn't say it's a favorite, but it is interesting.
Six · 2019-03-01 16:22
>>2988 mbv is a pretty good band

I've been listening to a lot of deafheaven recently. Specifically their album sunbather. I wouldn't call this traditional shoegaze but it definitely was inspired by shoegaze. I don't think i have ever heard an album that can be this loud and this calming at the same time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfbLWHT7vUU

>>3461 Tunings and synth voicings for "most" Swirlies songs.
Sabo Engle · 2019-04-25 21:41
On the lesser known side, I recommend Voices from deep below, small autoproduced band, their album Dissolver is a favorite of mine, as well as Pinkshinyultrablast, whose name was indeed inspired by an Astrobrite album
Otto Normalverbraucher · 2019-05-06 00:29
Shoegaze is pretty based, especially the stuff from Japan. Some of my favorite shoegaze bands/artists (or just shoegazey bands) are Coaltar of the Deepers, Yuragi, Hum, and Miki Furikawa. Also, Mikgazer vol 1 is literally the best Japanese shoegaze releases ever. I don't care if it's weeb soykaf.
H.R. Giger · 2019-05-06 00:30
>>3280 The best twee bands I can think of are Alvvways, Say Sue Me, and Sweet Trip if they count.
Ender · 2019-05-12 04:37
https://www.last.fm/music/Candy+Claws/Ceres+&+Calypso+in+the+Deep+Time Just found this band and highly recommend the album. >>3283 Beautiful album, it's extraordinarily experimental. I love it

>>3461 Swirlies are so good but I listened them at a bad time in my life when I'd drink and now I feel bad when I listen to them.
