How do I be a cyberpunk rockerboy type
Nanashi No Gombe · 2018-11-19 20:00
Stop conforming to an image and just listen to music you like, poser.

Take some high-tech musical crap that's portable, and start busking. Experiment with your look, with your act, watch that old movie Decoder, and try the same thing, pay attention to the crowd and attempt to manipulate and influence them with the music.

>>2917 This wasn't helpful in getting more information so I decided to do some of my own research. In the future, it would be helpful to make a post of this sort that's more than a sentence long and gives pointers as to what a rockerboy is (even if it's just referencing where the class comes from) so that folks don't have to do legwork figuring out what it is you're talking about. It sounds like what you're trying to do is become some sort of archetypal cyberpunk chaotic good bard. No one here can tell you how to become a poet that creates work that will have an effect on people, and chances are if you're getting into it because you want cool points for doing so it's coming to come across as vapid and hollow with the art reflecting it (google Colin Yost, or rather, don't.) There's something to be said into willing yourself into a different person and I don't have the bandwidth to write a treatise on it here, but you can definitely start orienting yourself towards approaching life in a way that is conducive to actually doing the work of being a rockerboy. That said, I'd look around for artists in real life who fit this goal - find artists whose songs are met with showers of praise like "this song saved my life" or "this song made me a better person," etc. Hone in on the effect you want to have on the world then see if you can find artists who have had that effect. I can't tell you what a process for finding these artists looks like, since the artists I've found have "helped" me the most came to me via recommendation or random discovery. I can recommend some personal picks for this category: early (pre-Good News) Modest Mouse, Pat the Bunny (and the 50 million various bands he performs under), and the Mountain Goats. Those may not be to your taste but I'd say they fit the chaotic good bard type you're going for here. I'd also recommend reading a lot of poetry. See if you can find some that aligns with your interests, and meanwhile see if you can broaden your interests encompass more of the world around you, in a grander/more cosmic scheme. I'll put it this way: if you go to a poetry section at a decent bookstore and, with earnest looking, can't find some poetry that speaks to you, perhaps you're going to be able to just 'will' yourself into a rockerboy. I'll cap it here and give folks a chance to respond. Again, I think intentionality is really important here - if you're just doing this because you like the aesthetics but don't yet have the embers inside of you that could be stoked to be the incendiary healer you're looking to become, chances are you're unlikely to get much further than donning the look without any actual substance.

At least buy a leather jacket, some hair product and mirrorshades. Think Andrew Eldritch from Sisters Of Mercy, circa This Corrosion. Then submerse yourself in Cyberpunk media until you walk the walk and talk the talk. We could give you a required reading/listening/viewing/playing list, if you want...

I don't think the actual instrument matters, just the look, the style and the philosophy. OK, now I want to see cyberpunk accordion.

I have a strong desire to first hand experiment with and learn how music affects people subconsciously and consciously. Sounds evil but music as propaganda interests me. I'm not sure where I can study these things. I'd like to be a good musician who let's everyone around them have a good time but be conscious of the affect my music could have Can anyone help
